    Great idea for a series. Always been curious to see what it would be like playing against some local pros on local courses. The quality of his ball striking stands out immediately. Keep up the great work. Have stopped watching regular tv for the last year or 2 and just follow good channels on youtube. Find it much more entertaining. Congrats on the growth of the channel. Looking forward to more of these.

Anyway, I noticed you do a lot of videos comparing the average weekend guy to a guys who make money playing golf. Great video Rob. Super impressive golfing career of Liams, wow. I have an off-topic question, I was noticing the way your right hand is positioned on the club at address on camera, in relation to the way you swing the club. Has this ever triggered any thoughts for you? Kind of Zach Johnson-ish

      Oh its probly gonna be tricky to explain but, from the DTL camera view it kind of arches or curves outward towards the ball. I've seen other golfers do this and im not sure if its deliberate or even if it can make any possible difference, I was just curious

    Just my 2 cents on your swing that you may want to check with your pro. I notice you are straightening the right leg on the backswing. I've had issues with that and found it led to inconsistent ball striking because I needed to rebend the knee the proper amount to get back into position. Keeping it flexed led to better ball striking in my case. What do you think?

    • @RobMcGarr
      @RobMcGarr  6 лет назад

      A lot of great players lose flex in their right leg in the takeaway, particularly if it helps them make a full turn. That said, I'm working a lot on my hip movement at the moment (which was one of my biggest issues). All will be revealed v soon.

    • @StevenKader
      @StevenKader 6 лет назад

      Looking forward to seeing the new movements. I agree that there are great players that do that, but they practice so much that they can be consistent with the extra motion. In my opinion keeping the knee stable helps to make sure weight is only shifted to inside of right foot, and removes the extra vertical motion of the unflex / reflex of the knee. Both of those should lead to more consistency. Here is Butch Harmon explaining it : www.golfdigest.com/story/nick_watney_power

    • @StevenKader
      @StevenKader 6 лет назад

      Here are drills someone could try to see if it helps them relating to knee flex / making sure not to go on outside of right foot : www.golfdigest.com/story/watson_gd0806

      Learnt:
      - pros always play within them self's but for them that means 280y+ drives most always in play, key is they are not over extending them selfs
      - solid iron striking, but with a conservative strategies
      - strong short game basics... not always fancy stuff but good and reliable at the basics
      - but... Very good putting in particular inside 3-5 feet
      - they dont seem to try to win the hole on the tee box but with a putter in their hands they remind me of a fighter look for that big punch
      - they can turn it on when they need to... so are playing along pars with odd birdie but when its called for can stick a pitch close make a big putt, rising to the situation rather than wilting under it.
      nice video really enjoined.... Yoga for golfers sounds like a fantastic idea!.

  • @foddyfoddy
    @foddyfoddy 6 лет назад +1

    Firstly, I love your videos and especially the banter. Secondly, I am not at your level of golf. When I used to play moderately often up till about 5 years ago, I broke 80 twice in quite easy Japanese courses, which was the extent of my golfing ability. Now that I don't play much, I couldn't get close to that. I also apologise in advance if you find this unhelpful, but I noticed one thing about your swing which I saw as different from the pros you have been playing with, and I wonder if it might be interesting to mention it (if not, please feel free to delete this comment, if that's possible, or to ignore it!).
    It's about your body movement prior to striking the ball, which can most easily be noticed by observing your head position against something in the background. For example, if you look at the drives on the first hole, especially in slow-motion, you will see that Liam's head remains virtually at the same level during the backswing, before dipping down slightly just before the moment of impact. Yours, on the other hand, rises quite noticeably during the second half of the backswing. Of course this means that you have to return your body to the address position at the moment of impact, and this 'up-down' aspect introduces an extra element of movement into the swing, which could complicate it. To me, without wanting to appear rude, it somehow makes his swing look better. Although of course there are pros around with very unusual swings (e.g. Jim Furyk), I think that keeping a steady head position before impact is quite important.
    Would be interested to hear your thoughts!

    • @RobMcGarr
      @RobMcGarr  6 лет назад

      Thanks Tony. I know exactly the head movement you're talking about and I have noticed it. It's a consequence of other things so when I get those sorted, the head won't need to lift up. I'll be posting a video soon about the work I'm doing with a coach which will clear things up!

    3. Then 18mo later he's +2 and pro? Ugh. I have no hope...
    4. You Brits/Irish have terrific accents! 👍 sorry I can't tell, us American are self-absorbed.

      I couldn't use Shot Tracer because the camera wasn't fixed in place. It's tricky filming when it's just the two of you, especially when there's other people out on the course, but I'll see what I can do in future! Hope you find the vids entertaining anyway.

      Scratch Golf Yeh enjoyed it and wasn't a criticism just something that always works well on other videos I watch. N I get that it isn't easy to film it all, I deffo couldn't do it so hats off

      It's totally cool, always up for hearing feedback. I'm very much still finding my feet with RUclips so always looking for ways to improve. I used Shot Tracer on every shot on a course vlog I did last year against the pro at my club, took me a lifetime to do them all though!

    In matches like this I’d advise you to play off scratch. You’re then playing with the right mentality.

      I decided I should, that's why I included the score off scratch as well. In future I'll just do all the matches off scratch.

    If your trying to challange and bettered yourself play off scratch and see how your game stands up that way. Working out how many shots compared to a touring pro is pointless
