I've boxed, kickboxed, and wrestled many years of my life. Now, at 47, recently married, and have two stepkids (hotheaded teens), I decided to watch Tony to get some refreshers since they are asking me about fighting. I'm glad I found him. He taught me a few techniques and allowed me to get refreshed so I could teach my kids properly how to box (in the ring only). Thanks Tony.

You need that fear , it's what keeps you alert and focused , or at least that's how I feel about it .
I only boxed as an amateur , but I can definitely relate Tony . I used to be so nervous before a fight , but as soon as that bell went it was like a switch was pushed and everything else became almost non existent , it's an amazing feeling that I've never been able to come close to in anything else I've ever done .

I had my first amateur fight a few months ago and the months leading up I had terrible anxiety(struggled mightily all my life with anxiety). The weeks before the fight I started really envisioning every small detail. Warming up in the back, the walk out, if my opponent did this or that. It helped so much I felt no bad anxiety the day of the fight, came out and performed and got it done.
Appreciate all the info you give us. Means a ton.

Here's what i like to do:
I convince myself that i'm really excited about the task at hand. Like a madman who craves the activity itself. The outcome doesn't matter, the surroundings don't matter.. all that matters is that i get to experience the task, that i get to feel the pleasure of playing.
I do this a lot, and i've gotten really good at it. Maybe you need to be a bit of a madman, but it really helps.

    • @nugget7323
      @nugget7323 10 месяцев назад

Neurologically, there is no difference between fear and excitement. That means, if we contextualize our feelings of fear/anxiety as excitement it becomes a positive experience rather than something to be avoided.
A good way to do this is physically verbalizing statements like:
      "Let's gooooo!"
      Or
      "Oh, hell yeah!"
      Or
      "This makes me feel alive!"

Tony, Thank you for sharing your story with me. I don't have a coach in real life to train me, but I am damn thankful you are here for me, and I am thankful to be learning from one of the best.

At that level of sports it’s not about who is better. Athletes are equally good.its about how you prep - mostly knowing the rules and sticking to a game plan that gets you the points

not true at all, some people are just better, everybody works hard everyone prepares

@@eclisis5080 people are just better? look what happened to Mike Tyson against ' Buster Douglas " and Manny Pacqiuao and Marquez. These are fights where one boxer is better but due to hard work and determination - the odds are in favour during those fights. So explain yourself again, people just happen to be better? Is it genetics? tell me.

@@a_l7515 Mike Tyson didn't train for buster douglas and was doing cocaine with hookers the night before, while Buster Douglas was in the best shape of his life motivated by his mother's death, you can look at Douglas' physique against Tyson and see how was fat and out of shape against holyfield
Pacquaio always had problems with Marquez that's why they fought so many times, because people felt like Marquez was robbed in a couple of those fights, Marquez is a hall of famer lmao

    Hey Tony.
I wanna start off by saying that this video found me at an incredible time. It renewed a confidence in myself to accomplish goals that I had accepted for a while would be unattainable.
I’m a big fan of your videos and your wisdom that you pass on. I’d love to say I’m an amateur fighter, but enthusiast is more like it.
I know it’s a stretch, but I’d love to send you footage of some of my training and see if I can have even just the most general advice.
Regardless if that would be okay or not; thank you for the content and sharing your stories. They help all of us more than you know, Champ🙏🏼

I boxed in the amateurs in the mid to late eighties ....I wasn't too good I lost more than I won ,whilst I probably didn't have the physical attributes to succeed I used to get very nervous .Its good to hear a top level boxer had his demons aswell ! Mental strength is vital in the game imo ... Great channel

I work at an event venue, and we host many fight events. We have Muay Thai, Boxing, and more recently, BKFC bare knuckle boxing. I have so much respect for every one of these fighters. The preparation, the dedication, and the courage to step in that ring.

Thank you very much for this video! These are the things that really matter the most I think, because it's always decieded in our heads. Cus d mato said the physical part of boxing is so minor as 10% when the mind is 90%. Learning to deal with these feelings and thoughts which matters more than everything. Because going to gym is easy. Learning the slip is easy. Doing 1000 sit ups is easy. But dealing with your fears, anxiety and controlling your inner thoughts is the hard part.
Wish to see more like this!

I fully agree with your constructive way of taking stock of your game plan rather than using hindsight of the outcome to put down your efforts. If everyone who didn't make it to the very top were to trash themselves and cancel their aspirations, then nobody would ever strive for any kind of improvement. Well, nobody except for that one person at the top, and even then, it would only be for a short while.

That was nice story. The best content on your channel until now, in my opinion (and i'm not painter, i was boxer amateur between '88-'92, so i'm able to appreciate any content about fight technique)
