Didn't believe this was Ligeti even when my mom popped the score up in front of the screen ! Had heard the finer Hamburg concerto but never this rearly 1951? work ! Hanigan has electrified ever since I saw her in Grande Macabre and then caught her conducting it very tricky score .I'll never know how many rehearsals that takes unless the musicians have performed it before many times. She's seriously being taken on asa conductor. She's an intelligent force of nature! Wonderful too that she's bringing new music to da fore !
First time hearing of this piece. Thoroughly enjoyed, it. Definitely Romanian, but at times , the first sections especially, kind of reminded me of composer Carl Nielsen, too. Thanks very much for posting it.
7:34 This 'rising storm' part is classic Ligeti. And to break it with that manic violin versus orchestra dialog, just sheer brilliance. What a brilliant musician I am just in awe.
Is it my imagination or can I hear some of the Romanian folk dances that Bartok used? No matter! It's a thrilling piece and the country is obviously very fertile musically
I can see your point, but...The musicians serm to be revved, the music is engaging and thrilling in some visceral way. I presume there is other music on the program, and I think it's fine to sandwich a light diversion between meatier fare.

Exhilarating, like a runaway train with Barbara keeping it on the track!!! Love this woman!
Barbara Hannigan OWNS this! Brava !

Ligeti goes lyrical, and does a very nice job of it.
Barbara hangan! Good conducting the music. I love the musical instruments!
Elle a tous les talents .

Sure, it is a Romanian classic. (Bartok collected a huge number of folk songs. Field recordings exist)
So romanian. Beautiful music!
It brings back memories of my stay in Romania for two years.
Mooi muziekstuk. En meesterlijk uitgevoerd!
Awesome
The oboe solo at 10:38 is one of the most absurd and lovable moments in Ligeti's music, I look forward to it every time I put this piece on.
As a clarinetist I must correct you; it's a clarinet solo, not an oboe solo ;)
We found him. Hiiii Baldeyrou
That's a clarinet, not an oboe
Wowzers! Fuckin’ aye!
3:30 beautiful woman!
And beautiful music!
Wow this is totally Bartokish.
I guess ligeti wanted to take a break from all that contemporary dissonant madness.
😅
It's an early work (1951).
a most worthy musician en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Hannigan
Oh oh I know what you were all on hall.
It is not that crazy she the conductor makes it more colabrately crazier. Good tempo explanation insists on suite sweets.
Te espero,no falles.

Ok boomer.
