The leaders of the Gulf have a hard time getting along with each other because they are too busy with their own agenda and trying to get the upper hand on each other. They can't unite because they don't trust each other. They are all hugs and hearty handshakes and smiles in front of the camera, but behind closed doors, it's a different matter. In order to take action, someone has to take the first step, has to take the lead. That's what leaders are suppose to do - take the lead. They are too concerned about their own survival to be concerned about their neighbor. They issue declarations and their foreign affairs ministers are hard at work talking the big talk, but none of them are at all eager to to bring talk into action.
People are quick to criticize the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, but he tolerates nothing. He's relentless, aggressive and somewhat ruthless. He could easily be the one that eventually comes forward and takes that step. But timing is everything and the right moment takes time and planning. Not everyone likes him, because of his bold and often direct manner. Another one to consider is King Abdullah of Jordan. He could also be the one to get things rolling into action.
In order to stop the bully, you have to become one yourself. That's the bottom line. Who's going to be brave enough to take that step??
