Imagine your a young animator and you were told to animate your favorite Disney character. That would be a dream come true.
Considering that I’m currently animating Jiminy Cricket for a fan animation project, maybe I could do that in something official sometime.
For sure! Mine are Mushu, Sisu, and the entire casts of Robin Hood.
It would be so much fun animating our favourite Disney characters and my favourite Disney characters are The Aristocats

We need more of this. I know 2D/hand Drawn animation is a tough medium, but the end result truly shines.
This makes me want to see more 2D movies from this company again.
That WILL happen once I get a job at Disney. I'll make sure that 2-d animation returns.
Don't worry, Eric Goldberg announced he was gonna return the hand-drawn animation.
I love that everyone can just animate on whatever medium they like most. Some digital, some Cel Animation. The outcome is breathtaking either way!
I don't think anyone actually used cels. Animating on paper alone isn't cel, that's when they would physically paint on celluloid. Today, even if they animate on paper, all color is done digitally.
If you notice, the only characters shown in this video that were animated in 2D but digitally are characters from when they were already working with computers (90s)
@@gmcubed Yeah I kind of just used the first terminology that came to my mind. I am more comfortable when it comes to 3D terms rather than 2D XD. However it was made, the result is incredible. :3
@@DarwinXD484 Damn I didn't notice, thanks. Yeah I think they also talked about how important it was for them to get the process as close to when it was made as possible, so any character looked exactly as they did back when.

You made a short film, and it was a masterpiece. Now make a movie.
Once Upon a Studio is one of the most emotional shorts I have ever watched. 😢

Wow! They really took their time with the 2d animated characters. Maybe one day we can have a full on 2d animated movie again? Wish doesn’t count cause it’s a blend of 2d and 3d.

0:14 Ah. Toon Boom Harmony! I’ve never used it before, but I immediately fell in love with it after watching it used in indie animations.
But it’s awesome to see that the classic hand-drawn animation on paper and ink/paint is still optional and practiced.
I’ll bet everybody’s hands were hurting after so many hours of drawing.

In a past life I from childhood I dreamed of being a Disney animator… I hear it’s grueling work but that finished product is amazing… awesome job btw these shorts are really inspirational they always make me daydream

This is what I like to see! Don't get me wrong, computer animation is... fine, but it relies way too much on perfection and doing things by the numbers. There's a lot more heart into hand drawn animation and it deserves a comeback!

I definitely need more 2-D, hand drawn animation. It’s truly amazing. This is what young animators is dream about, and we told animated Disney characters by simply using pencils and papers only. and I would like to pay tribute to all Disney animators past present and future future for making this short film possible. They are also a part of Disney Centennial reunion.

So in the years for them they still animated in paper, while some people animated in 2D, 2.5D and 3D on a tablet. :)
0:33 As a Disney fan who grew up watching Robin Hood, it still brings a tear to my eyes to see the foxy outlaw and friends animated again in Once Upon a Studio.
But I must admit, for me, it's nice to see Maid Marian again. As a kid, she was my favorite character and I wanted to meet her at Disney World, or Disneyland, whichever comes first. Imagine my heartbreak when I found out she's one of the "Long-Lost Friends" and hasn't made an appearance in a really long time. So, I've been waiting since then, hoping for the day when she would come back...even if it was just for one day.
And now, _Once Upon a Studio_ is proof that dreams can come true...in a different way.
Maybe Lady Kluck is right about, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder."

Impressive comparison of traditional and digital animation, but the fact that they put Young animators doing traditional and elders with digital is amazing, each one learning the ways to animate. Youngers learning the value of doing by your hand, and Elders learning the efficiency and the easier way to do every step at once, and both ways end up at the same point: Doing art.
This is really amazing and I'm amazed by their drawing skills.. Wow!

Nice how did they make the characters pop out of the pictures in the short special? Did they use cell animation to do that or digital animation?? Also, is the picture that Goofy took in the special, is that a real picture that is now at the studio or is that picture fake just for the purpose of the short special??
