- It's one of the biggest and top rated B&M (Bolliger & Mabillard) inverts in the world. Although the lift hill is only 90 feet tall, the drop is actually 124 feet because the station sits on the top of a hill and helps the coaster reach a top speed of 58 mph.

Best ride in the park to be honest
Dr Haagen Dazs I agree!!!! I love Fahrenheit, and all, but I just love riding Great Bear better, it's smoother and I just love the feeling of your feet dangling, feels like you're flying.

Skyrush is much better
It is, but it crushes your thighs.
Crazy number of supports, and so many of them are in super-bizarre configurations to avoid paths, water features and other rides.
This is probably my favorite coaster of Hershey Park. I love it, it's fun, not too too intense, at least for me, and overall, it's a pretty fun time.
Inverts aren't my favorite but I LOVE a good one!!! I think Talon at Dorney Park may be my fave invert of all
Fabulous B&M invert with cool unique elements. Really intense. I miss this ride and the park as well. Make it a point to go if you’ve never been...
I wouldn't go that far. At the time I went, which was several years ago, the Lightning Racer was the new coaster and THAT was my favorite. For me it is very hard to put a steel coaster over a wooden one, unless it is really really good. I have yet to try some of the newer coasters though, such as Storm Runner, Farenheit, and Sky Rush.

I love Busch Gardens and I love Alpengeist, but this will forever be my favorite B&M coaster.
Alpengeist is taller faster longer and better themed but great Bear is still my favorite. It runs smoother than most inverted coasters, the 130 foot helix is so cool and unique no other coast has one, and It is crammed into a very very tight section of the park. You go over walkways under rides, over the river a few times, it's just a neat how the station sits atop a large hill and most of the ride is at the bottom of the hill and you need to maintain enough speed to get up the hill at the end of the ride to get back to the station. It's a unique ride that is long enough to have fun but not enough to get sick or a headache. It's Hershey's signature coaster forever.
I agree, I haven't ridden Alpengeist in years but I do remember loving it. Great Bear is a lot more familiar to me though since I live only 2 hours from Hersheypark. I will say I do like Talon at Dorney a little better, but the unique layout and roar of Great Bear really do make it special. It's a coaster that's aged very well and is still one of the most popular rides in the park. I think that says something. You can easily wait an hour to ride this coaster on an average day over the summer because everyone loves it.
At the end I heard someone say "Alpengeist is so much better"
Coaster Friends I heard that too. I'm not too sure if that's true or not because I've only been on this. I live too far from Busch Gardens.

It's kind of cool how this one's drop twists around like that and THEN goes into the loop.
This is my favorite ride in the park. I actually find it relaxing. Watching this, it seems a lot scarier for some reason.
If you haven't been on any rollercoasters that go upside down, but you don't want to start with something as big as Great Bear at Hershey, then you should try SooperDooperLooper. It's got one loop, and it's a fantastic coaster.
By far my favorite ride on the park. I was scared to death but then we started moving fast and i loved it. Great ride.
Many of the supports are filled with sand which gives the ride it's distinctive roar.
I already did "Black Mamba" and "Katun"... Very nice coasters :)

This was my first ever "big boy" roller coaster haha. All I remember from it is that I couldn't tell which way way up and which way was down when I was on it.

For me, the best B&M Inverted is Nemesis at Alton towers, may be old but still packs a punch.

Zoe cutie I know! I love it!!! Best roller coaster in the park. That could change though, ever since I saw the videos for Laff Trakk that maybe my favorite when I ride it, but then again maybe not. Too bad this ride isn't opened during Christmas Candylane.
The great bear is my favorite ride at Hershey park along with the wild mouse and the super dooper looper
Underrated
Alpengeist, hands down. It is a larger, much smoother ride. I found Great Bear to be on the rough side for an inverted. Also as you can hear, it is VERY noisy. However, I still like Great Bear because of it's circuit...how it takes you over the park midway. It has an interesting layout.
i might have to go back to hershey park! i went there when i was 4 and was too little to ride the fun stuff
Trailblazer, Roller Soaker Wild Mouse, Comet, Wildcat, Sooperdooperlooper, Lightning Racer, Sidewinder, Great Bear, Skyrush, Fahrenheit, Storm Runner, in that exact order.
And I find that great bear is a lot better and is less jerky while also giving u a great view of the park

I love the first drop half, but I wish Great Bear was retracked!! So it's tough times.

if you mean a pre drop with a helix, then yes, but other coasters have pre drops as well, they just don't have the helix

They could have fitted a zero G roll at about 1:15, going the opposite direction of the one it just passed so it flows into the turn.
They could have even put a roll right after the turn, right above the water.
Don't get me wrong, it's amazing enough, just a little too short (then again most Hersheypark rides are short) and a little too 'tame' for my personal level of thrill.
I was too scared to ride Great Bear when we went to Hersheypark (this was back in 1998 when it was a new ride). Of course now I'll take on just about any coaster. But unfortunately I haven't been back to Hersheypark since.
Matthew Miller You need to get back there man! They have some pretty awesome roller coasters. Great Bear is my most favorite and then Fahrenheit. Storm Runner is a fan favorite and the same with Skyrush their newest roller coaster is Laff Trakk, I haven't been on it yet, but it looks like fun.

@@YuukiTakemoto1996 I did go back in 2017, and got to ride Great Bear. It surprised me a little bit. I didn't think it would be as intense as Batman the Ride (SFGAdv). Boy was I wrong. Though my favorites were Fahrenheit & Skyrush.
And no, it's Konoka (Negima!). ^^ I'm actually not real familiar with Touhou.
@CoolioJoe100 i have ridden both ...yes alpengeist is larger but the loops are smaller on this one so you travel through them faster which makes the ride more intense which in my opinion is better alpengeist is smoother

This one doesn't really do that like the wooden ones because it is hianging from the track and is a lot smoother and very strongly attached to the track. Probably 4 out of 10.
This is the US version of Nemesis but with a few differences.

@christhenerd8 Ehhh, I wouldn't say so. Great Bear has a nicer first drop and is clearly faster, but it also has a lot of 'dead space' before and after the final flat spin (corkscrew). The Batman clones are much more intense from start to finish, with inversions and twists occurring in rapid succession. So I'd actually say Batman gets a slight edge over Great Bear.
