  • Did you know that this was the first looping coaster on the East Coast and that a mechanical spider used to drop down towards the train in the tunnel?
    Hersheypark is located near Harrisburg in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

    I went to Hersheypark when this was fairly new... and was too afraid to ride it. I finally rode it for the first time just three years ago.
    People wondering what's so super about this ride have to remember that when it opened, there were very few looping coasters anywhere, and none in the eastern United States. What was sooper was that it had a loop! It's a piece of history.
    And I think it's still a great loop. It's uncommon to be able to ride an inverting coaster of any sort without an over-the-shoulder restraint; even this coaster's big sister, the Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain, now has them. But even when this ride got new trains, they kept the lap-only restraints, which is wonderful. I also think there's still a place for not-too-extreme rides of this type. I rode this after riding Fahrenheit, and while Fahrenheit was great, I still think the Looper was a nice change of pace.

    This is like the old primes on the transformers. Just think, this was the top attraction in its day. I was too scared of it to ride it for years. When I finally rode it, I felt like I completed an initiation into the big boy coaster club. This coaster game me the nerve to ride the old King Cobra at Kings Dominion (replaced by Annaconda) and ultimately, the Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens. This video makes it seems like a forgotten old soldier. Feels neglected and needs to take its place in history. Thrill-less. But it paved the way for all these crazy modern wonders we now enjoy. Thanks for the memories.

    Whoa! You aren't kidding. That park is SICK! Talk about packed in! That would NEVER happen here in the US. That is some scary s--t. That woodie looks new too and the turn around to the lift hill you could practically reach up and touch the return track! I saw the Wild Mouse and it is literally built on top of top of buildings.

    A surprisingly smooth ride, smoother than skyrush tbh

    • @mhtube01
      @mhtube01 9 лет назад +1

      creepavsmc And far less painful on your legs! I can't stand those lap restraints on Skyrush.

    • @soniabacke3703
      @soniabacke3703 9 лет назад

      The restraints don't have have to be painful. It's just a matter of how skinny you are, or if you push down on the bar too hard, because it locks exactly where you pushed.remeber that next time

    • @creepavsmc9555
      @creepavsmc9555 9 лет назад

      Sonia Backe well on skyrush it doesnt really matter, i weigh 102 lbs, (ik im tiny stop writing that in the reply) i try to make sure i have a little room before it dispatches, i usually lift my legs a little so it isnt crushing me but by the time it gets to the bottom of the first drop the restraints come down hard anyway, also it seems like the track needs a bit of a touch up off season so next year its nice and smooth like it was a few weeks after it opened which is when i first went on it.

    • @mhtube01
      @mhtube01 9 лет назад

      It really doesn't have anything to do with the conditions of the track. It's mostly due to the high G forces you experience on the ride. By holding onto the lap restraints, the G forces make you push down on them without realizing it, resulting in them tightening throughout the ride. They get way too tight. They should design them so that they lock into place and can't tighten anymore during the ride. The ride operators love to make sure they're as tight as possible as well which is no help.

    Find this ride fascinating. It uses terrain, it has a actual circle loop, not an oval shape, and unlike similar types, it keeps a good speed and is quite thrilling. In a park with GCI's, an intamin's pretty much better/best coasters, a B&M inverted, etc, it still stands out amazingly in this day and age. People looking for the entrance to "the blue coaster" in the midst of where Comet, Great Bear, and Skyrush are because they want to experience it.

    • @medicfdumbo

      OnlyAndOnlySound yeah it's a fun ride, i kinda found the "loop" boring but loved the rest of the ride through the trees and the shack and stuff. just wish they made the entrance a little more clear lol

  • @MoonLitCat
    @MoonLitCat 12 лет назад

    I really love this ride, its really fun and it's never a long line because people don't like this one as much as the others. And I really think it's mostly because of the end it stops you to slow you down. But when it stops you, it literally jerks you a couple time forwards which really hurts!! I'm hoping with the new trains that they somehow put padding or something in to help with that. But it is a fuuuuuun coaster.

    That's what I love about the old Schwarzkopf loopers. Many of them look old and decrepit, but they still deliver an awesome ride.

  • @jukingeo
    @jukingeo 11 лет назад

    That they do. Compare this to some of the newer coasters in the park (ie Skyrush) and it has a very good track layout and it stood the test of time. As indicated above, it is also quite the museum piece at Hershey considering it was the first looping coaster on the east coast. When they put in Skyrush, I feared the worst and thought they were going to remove the SDL, but I am happy they didn't. I certainly want to ride it again.

    • @tslabjr7
      @tslabjr7 6 лет назад

      Correct. It's so old, The loop is round rather than the modern vertical loops that are oval. This loop burns a ton of speed. there's only a handful of coasters in the world with a round loop like this one.

    Actually try Grona Lund, Sweden for compact. They have a wild mouse coaster practically buried underneath the structure of a Schwarzkopf sitdown coaster, right next to a compact wooden coaster that has a suspended coaster with a drop going through the wooden support work.

    CoasterForce, I'd like to ask you a question that I'm sure you've heard before. I want to get into filming rollercoaster POVs and want to know: Do you need permission to bring your camera on a roller coaster or notify someone that you will be? Or is it a "if you bring it on, it's your responsibility" type of thing? Thank you for reading.

    I may sound like a GP but why don't they just use those comfortable over the shoulder restraints (Like the ones from Sidewinder)? The lap bar itself may keep you from flying off your seat but some people might not feel safe enough. I feel like lap bars are only great with extreme coasters with a lot of negative g's (Like RMCs). Just not this one.

    This is the one coaster that I am a little freaked out to ride again. I went on it when I was very little and I remember the G forces being insane in that loop. My face got red like a tomato and I felt like it was going to burst open.
