- Great Bear is a terrain-based Bolliger and Mabillard Inverted roller coaster that is found at Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA. Great Bear On-Ride Video, 4K Ultra HD POV, Front Seat. The roller coaster is a custom-built ride that takes riders around "The Hollow" area of the park, where attractions surround you in a small valley, it is one of the most visually impressive areas of any park thanks to all the kinetic energy that surrounds you from all of the roller coasters. It also is home to most notably Skyrush and Sooper Dooper Looper. The attraction is designed by Werner Stengel and built by B&M. #RollerCoaster #Hersheypark #GreatBear #HersheyPA
Great Bear's most-talked-about element is its river-finish with a quick left-right corkscrew near the woods. The supports of Great Bear are also extremely visually stunning, with interesting structures to allow the river to be unblocked as the supports weren't permitted to be built in the river, for this reason, it was one of the most difficult installations for the company at the time.

Hershey, PA roller coaster, Great Bear POV, 4K Ultra HD On Ride, front row. B&M Invert, Hersheypark, PA.
The way the supports on this ride were designed, especially near the end, are mind boggling.
Had to be, there is a zoning restriction on the supports going in the water
It's cause B&M wasn't allowed to build them in the river, that's why they look all wack
God bless ✝️
@Patrick Strahm yeah but then with skyrush they were just like "fuck it, put the entire ride on the water" xD
How many people love this ride?
this ride was by far my favorite. the way you feel so supported while on the ride made it more fun then scary, and usually a short line
Short line. oh let me tell you that you are wrong
@@knexnhershey lmao yea i was there near the end of the day so it was shorter for me
@@knexnhersheyLol it can certainly get bad on a busier day. Other days though it can be a walk on. I think part of what hurts this ride's capacity though is the operations. They've been pretty bad the last few years. There's always a hold up in the station because somebody can't fit on the ride and all of these restraint rechecks that constantly seem to happen drive me crazy.
Lol was about to say the only thing I don't like about this ride is the line but a couple coasters were added since my last visit so maybe its better now.
@@Secretsofsociety I went two weeks ago and they only had one train running so it took an hour to get on the first time, i checked the wait times throughout the day because this is my absolute favorite coaster at the park and at one point it said 75 minutes. I did get on a second time with only a 30 min wait but even the new candymonium coaster had way less wait times.
Insanely fun and unique invert despite the shorter length. The helix and first drop combo is crazy cool.
This is not unique? This is just a copy of Batman at six flags great adventure but with different colors. When you see this comment I want you to search up on RUclips “Batman ride six flags great adventure” and you’ll see the same thing that appears when watching great bear. Matter a fact great bear came out 5 years after Batman did! Now let me show you the dates of all of them Batman came out on (may 1st 1993) and great bear came out on (may 23 1998) Great bear doesn’t seem so much “unique” now does it?
I love the way both this and Storm Runner utilize their environments. There's some serious added excitement when you're flying over the pathways and zipping by trees as opposed to just riding around an empty field.
Definitely. Not to mention the way they were built over and around existing rides. Hershey really did a good job with cramming a bunch of rides into the front half of the park over the years and the way they all interact with each other makes the experience that much more fun.
THIS RIDE IS SO SMOOTH!
the inversions on this are whippy & when it comes to night rides it’s soo good, its def underrated in the night ride category
I love this coaster. Very underrated
They should absolutely re-track/rebuild it like the incredible hulk once it reaches its service limit. It's one of the best B&M inverts in the world IMO even though it's kind of tame for an invert.
@@ChiggidyChuck I wish it was longer
@@ChiggidyChuck never been on my local then have you the beast called nemesis at alton towers 😜
This ride is my sweet ride because this ride is awesome. The airtime of this ride is incredible. This ride was the first rollercoaster that I ever went on with the cars underneath the tracks. This ride is incredible.
Seems like an amazing ride! B&M inverted coasters have been some of my favorites for a while now, this could easily be one of them.
Perfect onride too :)
My first b&m invert in 2018! I love the layout and setting! Has some whippy inversions too. extremely good in the front for the view
The entrance into the corkscrew is totally awesome!
@@AmusementInsider agreed! That moment took me off guard my first ride, especially because i was in the back row
If you love this ride try nemesis at alton towers in England made in 1994 and still to this day the best inverted coaster of all times, my local park 😁
Rode this april 17th. Still I think the most underrated B&M
kinda random but i went to six flags on april 17th lol
@@harrystylessupremacy2883 Dude that is awesome, add me on discord Chilo#8314

I like how it sounds epic just watching the coaster roar on the tracks over near The Comet: the second inversion.
Just visited the park yesterday and rode Great Bear twice. I've ridden it many times over the years and it's always one of my favorites in the park. I wouldn't call it B&M's best coaster, but certainly one of their coolest and most unique. The inversions are great, it's aged VERY well, and the roar just NEVER gets old! I love standing in the Hollow as the train goes through the loop and the immelman, it just sounds amazing. This is a must ride at Hersheypark and probably one of their most iconic coasters.
Agree with all of that 100%!!
My favorite childhood memories are hearing the iconic roar......I still get a kick out of it today at 28 lol
Best ride at the park, hands down.
I agree. This ride is just incredible. The airtime is just Amazing. This rollercoaster is incredible
THAT RIDE IS THE BESTTTT ⭐️
So happy to have this ride 1.5hrs from home…Hershey is such an underrated experience and I recommend you take a trip and enjoy what Pennsylvania has to offer👍🏼😎
NICE SMOOTH RIDE!
The design for 1998 is phenomenal. I love that drop.
I love this ride so much. I went on this ride yesterday and it was just amazing.❤ this is awesome
I was too small to go on this last time I was there, but I remember hearing the roar from it every so often as it went past. I remember thinking it looked so cool.
Never ridden this, but it looks like when it's good, it's GOOD. The ending looks a little flat though. Really creative layout however.
The ride is over after the corkscrew. The only reason it does those extra turns is because it has to go around another coaster to get to the break run lol
The ending may be bland, but this thing goes SO fast
The uniqueness of a lot of roller coasters at Hershey Park is that they don't necessarily have the free land to do a typical B&M inverted layout. a lot of coasters in the middle of the park have to twist and turn through the park which, in my opinion give it a more unique feel.
This ride was super fun when I got on it. The helix before the drop was so cool.
even that lil section is fun jst zooming into the brakes with all that speed
Smooth Like Butter
BTS
This is my favorite ride at hurshey park! I love it so much. I just adore the loops and twists. Also you feel VERY secure. At some points it’s pretty intense but it’s not as intense as like Storm runner for example so you can actually enjoy it. Also believe it or not the twist are actually way more intense then the loops, you feel so much pressure!
Hey I wanted to let you know that exclusive pass holders got their mail from universal and they will be testing the ride with real riders on may 2 and some other days. I’m so excited!
Great POV!
Such a unique ride
This is a great ride up to. The corkscrew. The sedate meander afterwards not so much. It's the best first half of an invert there is. The helix off the lift and. The speed run along the river before the corkscrew is amazing.
Bahaha that dude taking his water bottle on the coaster. Buddy, you’ll be going 80 miles per hour.😂
I wanna ride this so bad. I’d do the back or middle!
It’s 20 slower
Very well filmed!
Great, classic ride
HELP! I’m going on it today I’m super excited but scared at the same time!
Stunning POV
i went here today and when i say it was hauling i mean it was HAULING especially coming out of the loop and diving down near the water
we're here to help brought me heree!
My favorite at Hersheypark!
Loved that ride
Me too. Definitely love this ride very much. The fact that the cars are under the track is just amazing. There really is nothing bad that I have to say about this ride. It’s just amazing
Got on this today
Was dopeeee
I thought my feet were gonna hit the beam supports lmao
I love this ride
This was my first “grown up” coaster I rode back in 2002.
My first trip to hershey was the same year but I was too small to ride great bear. Didn't get on it till 2004 or 2005
What a whacky layout! Seems super cool though
I rode this yesterday, It was so scary! Especially because it was my 3rd rollercoster and I barley made the height requirements
I feel so lucky to live really close to Hershey Park!! 😊 We went today, and i chickened out on this one from the dangling, but we get to go again next weekend and i will try to go next time! 😬😅
I'm in York and go often. You definitely gotta do this one. It's the absolute funnest and smoothest ride. The best at Hersheypark!
Haven’t ridden this yet. Though I intend to when I finally go back at the end of June. Last time I was here was 2013 in September. I rode my first inverting coaster that day. Super dooper looper.
That corkscrew at the end is the best I’ve ridden and raptor has two killer corkscrews.
Its one of the most intense corkscrews.
Great POV!!!
Aside from the few inversions, this would be a good layout for an arrow suspended costar, with all those swooping turns.
I was able to ride this great fun ride 😏🎢
Ok, I've decided which coaster I'm going on first when I go to Hershey in a few weeks
Update:
Oh. My. God.
Very cool ride, really like how it starts by going into a 360 degree turn and then into the inversions, that looks fun. Also like that the supports look very close to the ride path near the end but overall I this is nowhere as good as the batman clones imo.
Far left seat for the Zero G Roll will break your mind.
What a great ride, one of my favorites but where's everybody on line though ?
Some of the supports on this ride are so fucking weird and I love it
I think ,Werner Stengel of Stengel Engineering did a great job for designing this layout.
Going to Hershey park tomorrow and going on this 👀
Did you like it 👀
@@lukez6203 it was scary- I was barefooted because I didn’t want to lose my shoes 💀 but my older sister did it with me 😎
@@marrisssalandaker150 well at least it was fun right
@@lukez6203 blacked out is what my sister said don’t remember but yeah it was!
whenever I go on this ride I always think I’m going to hit my head 😂 but I am going to Hershey park today again so
It’s always sounded like an actual bear, imho.
I prefer this over raptor
them supports tho
damn they go all the way up ;)
I was just there April 10-11
This reminds me of alpengiest at bush gardens
I was just on this yesterday
My favorite ride but it is way too short.
What people describe great bears force to be like: 💪💪💪

What its actually like: 😊😊😊
In the front at night is the nest coaster experience I ever had sides ghe front on the phoneix at knobeles
Y’all get him to 1k likess
Looks great... But definitely is no Nemesis
Dangley coasters f with my brain. Goin up the hilll oh yay then oh crap, no more floor🫨💩
this seems insanely similar to alpengeist in busch gardens williamsburg-
“Put your hands up!”
💀💀💀
I am a little worried to ride this and I need to know if it’s worth it and if it’s scary, THIS WILL ALSO BE MY FIRST COASTER WHERE MY FEAT HANG SO I NEED A LOT FO HELP
Super smooth and fun ride! Enjoy it!
@@AmusementInsider Ok:)
When was the video made?
Last Sunday
i think it has a bit too much banked straight track(i've never rode it before but it just seems like that)
Does anybody know what those stick things at the bottom of the trains at 0:09 are?
Probably anti-static electricity rubber things.
to discharge it
Static wicks, I believe. To prevent static buildup. I just rode Cheetah Hunt in Tampa and on the back of the car they have those that touch the track at all times, just like these things seem to do, though it must be only when they pull into the station in this ride’s case because the track is on top.
Really wish Hershey put an inline twist at the end, so much straight nothingness at the end lol. Great ride nonetheless.
This was before B&M started putting inline twists on their inverts, I believe. I at least don't know of any of their older coasters that have them. The only two I've ridden that have them are Banshee and Thunderbird and they were built in 2014 and 2015 respectively. It would have been cool but I'm not sure if they would have been able to fit it in there since it had to manuever around SooperDooperLooper and Coal Cracker.
B&M Make the Best Inverts!
*I threw up on this ride lmao!!! 😂😂😂😂😂*
That looked scary when I watched at the park
Man I love tight tolerances.
I went on a ride like this at six flags before
I’ve been on this and I was literally the youngest one there bc I’m nine and 8m a crazy person😂
Just rode this… lord Jesus
From the sounds of it, the brake run is still as abrupt as ever.
I never found it abrupt, it doesn't hit that hard. It lets the train round that turnaround with a decent amount of speed so you're not slamming to a stop
The wild cat was the worst, you were already suffering from whiplash, then the jolted end.
im getting ptsd
Jesus is king
AMEN!
AMEN
What candy do you have to be to ride this
Twizzler
Is it me or they should give this a repaint maybe like a blue or something
If you like riding rip-offs, then you should ride Great Bear. That rollercoaster is a rip-off because it shamelessly mimics Batman The Ride's lackluster design and uninspired thrills, offering nothing new or exciting but a mere imitation of what's already been done. It's like they took all the worst elements of Batman The Ride and magnified them, leaving riders with a disappointing reminder of what a true coaster experience should be.
Typical B&M, looks like I could take a nap on it.
Nah this ride is intense.
What is wrong with that though? lol
Great roller coster loved it
