    Hi Craig, my friend Road Glide just sent me a link to your channel . I came for a visit, liked your video and decided to sub. My 21 Goldwing is the 6 speed manual and I love it. On the other hand, it was all I could find when I was looking for a new bike a few years ago. I have no issues with the DCT model and would have no problem buying one. There are many times at traffic lights that I struggle to shift into neutral just so I can relax my hand. They are the future and that's how it's going to be. Thanks for posting.

      Thank you so much for watching and subscribing. I think the DCT is great, however it does lack when it comes to slow speed maneuvers. Would love the manual for that. But like you said, when you are in stop and go traffic it is great to not have to continuously work the clutch. Ride safe!

    I don't think so, the consumer demand isn't there. Unlike cars which to a large extent are utility vehicles and where the driver would rather just take a train if they could, motorcycles are not. Enthusiasts have always preferred manual.

    A long time ago, (1992) I was a die-hard Harley Rider, I was trained on one and sworn that I would never ride a cruiser, (outside of work), never ride a Goldwing, etc. AI is here to stay, and so are auto/semi-auto motorcycles. Change is inevitable except it or get left behind. Great topic.

      So true. The industry is evolving whether we like it or not. Ride safe!

      Yup, the more we disconnect from our vehicles, the more time we have to be on cell phones, smoking, eating etc. while driving/riding.
      It's been proven that in the auto industry, we have advanced so far that no one "understands" their vehicle anymore. People have become lazy and non observant to anything that might be wrong, because there is a light or signal to tell them. Now ask this...since they will "improve" motorcycles with automatic transmissions, will they become cheaper? hell no! Will they become harder to work on, probably. Blame technology for making people lazy and fat and dumbed down. Future generations are screwed, they can't fix anything, they don't know anything and they can't even form whole words or sentences, but this should really encourage them to ride motorcycles! haha

    Making the point of making it easier to ride a motorcycle, why dont they just put another wheel in front and back and put in air-conditioning and add a roof and sides for inclement weather. Ive been riding since '71 and seek the wind in my hair the challenges of finding the right gear and the sweet sound of that motor purring under me. Love your videos Craig. Ride safe.

      Thanks for watching! I do think this may be a strategy to try to attract younger riders. Not saying it's going to happen but I could see Harley taking a bike like the Sportster S, making an automatic version to try to attract a different crowd. At first you might think it sounds crazy, but Harley did make an electric bike and an adventure bike. A long time ago we would have said that would never happen. Ride safe!

      Don't worry... us kids will stay off your lawn if you want... lol. They are looking at doing that stuff with 3 wheels though. Legally in most places as soon as they sell it with a 4th wheel, it meets the legal definition a of a car, and has to have car legally mandated safety features that make it impossible to make it a motorcycle type of vehicle at all, which is why all the open more cool "cars" with three wheels become popular

    Very interesting perspective. You raise some excellent points.For me, I prefer less rider aids on my bikes for many different reasons, but if I was a long distance cruiser type rider I'd definitely embrace all of the options possible even automatic shifting.

      @craighanesworth  5 месяцев назад +1

      There definitely is a feeling of complete control of the bike when you don't have all the rider aids. Ride safe!

    I certainly agree with you in stating that your new motorcycle is more automatic than you think. All the rider aids make these new motorcycles "more automatic" in how they respond to potential mis handlings so to speak by the operator. As for my opinions on DCT they are well documented on my channel , Love it and wouldn't hesitate to own another DCT motorcycle. That said I am enjoying the snot out of my manual R1250 GS Adventure. Great topic and video. BTW - That jump off at the gas station bought back memories , i'll have to check to see if I have a patent on "THE GOLDWING JUMP OFF" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

      Craig does a fine job. But patent hasn’t run out quite yet on the legendary Gbewingingit jump-off and walk around. So my answer is. It’s your’s baby!

    It is a pretty bike, with the accessories you have its even better. The new models coming out from off shore will have automatic but I don't think Harley will follow for a while longer..

      @craighanesworth  5 месяцев назад +2

      I wouldn't be surprised is they started to implement it on some of the smaller bikes (sportster) just to see if they could get a following. In fact that might not be a bad idea. They could compete with the Honda Rebel 1100 DCT!!

    If you think about it, how many young drivers (of cars) today, know how to drive a stick shift... not very many at all, which may make it intimidating for them to consider buying a motorcycle. I can see the day when young drivers hear the word "clutch", and then ask "what's a clutch?"
    To attract young riders, it just seems logical that bike manufacturers will increase their lineups of automatic bikes, kind of like Honda is doing with the NC750X, Rebel 1100 and Africa Twin. It's only a matter of time before they offer DCT'S in some smaller bikes.
    This video should generate some interesting comnents, and perhaps a grenade or two 😳😄
    Great topic, Craig 😁👍👍

    • @craighanesworth
      @craighanesworth  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Wayne. That's exactly what I was thinking. There will always be manual motorcycles, but I think the manufacturers will offer more and more automatics and try to sell them on the fact that there is a smaller learning curve. Ride safe my friend

    quickshifter of any type does make the bike partially automatic.. it automatically controls the clutch for you... yep. DCTs are awesome. Love my Rebel 1100 DCT.

    100% to the DCT! Love it. Also love the Bohn Armor. Have several in various colors. Kristy the owner is great and picks up the phone or will respond to your inquiry. Also wear theie compression style under-the-pants version too. Most important. Your Wing looks fantastic Craig! BTW. I believe GbeWinginit has the jump-off walk around patent. For now anyway. 😂 Nice job out there.

    When you wear size 14 shoe, you would rather have automatic or automated manual. Almost every bike set up is so narrow that I have to have the shifter adjusted. Unless they make a split transmission so I can just push down instead of lifting the lever up. A split switch for shifting up and down. That can work too. Just move the lever up for high gears and a down position for downshifting.

    • @craighanesworth

      I know exactly what your saying. I wear a 14 and just had to adjust the shifter on my GSA

  • @charleshunt3806
    @charleshunt3806 5 месяцев назад

    Yeah, Honda has a manually shifted bike and you can’t stall it. They had it in the 60s. It was called the Honda super cub. You don’t have to manipulate the clutch with your left hand, the heel to shifter disengages from the motor and you shift up and down through the gears, you have to shift up and down through the gears, cause the motorcycle will not do it itself, but you can’t start the thing now you could theoretically stop and forth gear and then ship down, but I wouldn’t recommend that because I prefer to be in first gear when I stop so then I can go forward quickly if I have to and you can start in fourth you’re just gonna be really slowso yeah they’ve had this technology for long time

    Of course all bikes will be automatic. We are only a few years away from when we will have to stop burning oil, so we will all be on electric motorbikes. And most of them don't have gears.
