I just ordered one of these at the 3rd of this month and it really had some quality control issues, the 1st thing I noticed was the strings looked as if they were on there for years and when I went to change them, when I removed the old strings the nut fell out and it got chipped on the high E string, so I fixed it temporally ( I ordered a new bone nut) and then the intonation was so far off it's like they didn't even try to set it, so I had to do it myself, also the nuts that hold the tuners down were barely sitting on the threads and so I fixed that as well. Also, the push/pull knob was very difficult to use so I replaced the knobs with metal textured ones. So, believe it or not I decided to keep it because after I got it up and running it plays and sounds like a dream, besides the quality control issues this thing is well built, the finish is flawless, and the 10-inch neck radius makes it very comfortable to play. So, would I buy another Michael Kelly guitar,.......YES absolutely I would but that's because I can work on guitars, if you can't it would be a good idea to find someone who can or be prepared to pay someone to set it up for you because from my experience you may have to, unless Michael Kelly steps up their QC

I've owned 3 different Michael Kelly guitars (CC50, CC60, and Patriot Instinct Duncan). They're overall decent, but there are definitely some compromises being made. I ended up selling all of them because I could never really love them.
They put a lot of emphasis on their (very beautiful) veneer tops and the pickup selection options (which are pretty cool), but things like fret leveling, neck feel, and other more complicated issues like "string buzz" take a back seat. Their "modern C" necks are very very thin, and for some reason they went with a compound radius fretboard, which is really not something people usually want... I was never able to get them set up to a point where the string height was where I wanted it because I would get so much string buzz because the neck quality/consistency wasn't good enough.
They should have focused a little less on some things to really bring up the quality of others. My suggestions could be to put a normal pickup switching system in there, thicken the necks to be in line with the offerings of Fender & Gibson, and drop the poorly implemented compound radius fretboards. The fundamentals are so much more important than the extra perks. Only do the perks if the fundamentals are shored up.
The really nice Veneers are one of the things that really sets them apart, so I think they should keep those.
The overall value proposition is a weird one. I think the price is kinda what they're worth on paper, but if you don't really enjoy playing them...then no dollar amount makes sense.

Hi Jon, I've time to watch all your videos yet on MK guitars, but as long as you're also a G&L expert, I was wondering your thoughts about the two brands?
I'm looking for an HSS strato type guitar, would you recommend a GL legacy or a MK?
    Many thanks

That will depend on which make… the G&L has a Fullerton deluxe and tribute. The MK also has an Indonesian make and Korean make

Pretty..love the finish.. for some gigging players, wearing 8.5lbs on your shoulder for 2-3hrs might not be for everyone. Regardless...you dear Jon make any guitar sing !!!!! ☺

Have you been to jMave Guitars in Singapore? I found their website and they have beautiful high end guitars from small boutique builders. I'd love to hear your thoughts on those smaller brands like Patrick James Eggle

That Sungkai sounds even better than Sassafras. It's sounds closer to Swamp Ash.😮

The grain is a bit boring. If they had used ash for the body, it would look really nice. The playing is as always, impeccable.
