I love how aware she is of how her own creative processes work, like she doesn't treat it as some precious supernatural thing which can be corrupted if it's overthought. She isn't afraid of getting lost in the music but she also isn't afraid of analysing it. She's a special one.
when asked about her music,You can tell, in the way she talks, that she's trying so very incredibly hard, to find the words to describe her music and inspirations. Yet.. even with her vast vocabulary, she still pauses mid-sentence to find the next best word to describe the feeling. This is how you know her work has got textrure. straight layers like an Ogre.
This is really sweet. I talk very similar to grimes as I’m autistic (pre sure she’s said she is before) and it causes me to have trouble expressing myself verbally, I often stop and start or trip over my words as my brain feels like it runs too fast for my mouth. To know that people may find my way of talking endearing is really reassuring as I often critique myself for it
@@DanSwerdlove-wb5jl I relate to the way she talks too. I overshare constantly. I constantly say um and struggle to find the right words. I don't have as vast as a vocabulary. It's hard when I speak another language half the time in my house. I still relate to how she speaks but I'm not autistic. I feel dumb constantly but with Grimes I feel a bit of comfort and relation. I think it's cool you feel good too :)
honestly ive only heard like 2 grimes songs, this video came up in a playlist.. but wow im really impressed with her view of the herself and the world.. I can tell she is very emotinally attached to music, and in tune with a deeper connection to life then most. You can hear something special in her music. I cant wait to see what she can do with it in the future.. a very intelligent artist
In her interviews there is generally an air of awkwardness between her and the interviewer. But this interview is different. Like they've known each other for a while.
Don't agree, i think she dances like a dork but i am ok with that. I wouldn't agree her grooving style apparently has much to do with her ballet experience.
I've started rewatching her interviews because I've seen everything that is online apparently 😫 if anyone has some super rare videos to recommend please do it
Grimes is the most important artist alive today. I respect her more and more with each interview. Her attitude toward making music is ideal. More artist should take care to make music which is important culturally and personally. Phenomenal. Maximum respect.
I actually see her as a very violent performer. Singers don't usually portray the kind of emergy she does. Her songs might not be too explicit but the emotions they embody definetely are.
+Silvie Ray So are you. :) But yeah...Claire is pretty much my dream girl. I have a thing for hyper-creative weird loner girls. There's just something intangibly sexy about a girl who has an intense passion for creativity and is 100% committed to it, regardless if that's considered "weird" by normal society.
She's definitely super attractive in so many ways, but judging by her lyrics she seems like she'd be a handful, emotionally volatile. She strikes me as very ambitious and very intense.
I love her music, but I don't think she's a "performer," which is not a bad thing, but I defnitely feel like a lot of artists feel like they need a "performance" to be popularly appealing, but honestly I think it kinda detracts from them focusing on being a musician!
That's what I said screams... I guess that's what I meant. Its because they have to that I feel they shouldn't do it. There are gonna be people who don't want to be super famous... I feel like some type of music is more honest the way the artist recorded it. Producers shouldn't be a thing. All artists should collaborate and get input from each other... But then I guess that would mean people would have to think about the music they were listening to. And where are the big bucks with that? Only by managing them and touring them to death. Then expect some amazing shit every two years and then pray to god that you can appeal to your fanbase. I would hate to have that much pressure. But I guess it usually seems they have a great time. But then again most people do that on their facebook and shit. Today you just get whatever is allowed on the mainstream radio. rant over
+Craig McClelland Not that I'm disagreeing with you, in truth I have no idea how the music industry works, but I have a question. If most of the money comes from performing then how are Elvis, 2Pac, and so many other dead artists making so much cash??
i disagree because if it wasnt for her live performances she probably wouldnt have pushed herself to make visions or art angels. she would probably still be making hazy lo fi noisey sound like fifteen minutes to
She is the best person to interview. She has so much to say and not once is it boring! You don't see yourself as cute Grimes, but you are a genius at what you do.
fantastic kind of abstract interview intertwined with her articulating what 'Grimes' is all about and she seems so switched on musically and artistically - just wish it was like an hour long interview/show footage, that would have been good!
thanks man. yeah i guess i can see why people might not like her voice seeing as it's not a typical pop voice and is very unique, but that's what drew me in. i thought it was very interesting, so i kept listening to more and more song and then i realized the genius in her music. i don't care if it's a fad to like her now, if she continues to make good music, i'll stay a fan regardless of the trend sticking or fading.
Loved her voice from the start. it never struck me as that strange. You never heard Minnie Riperton or half today's top 40 pop stars, let alone Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) or Faye Wong I guess? It's not so unique to have a woman singing in her upper range- what matters is Grimes's voice and music are great. I remember on first listen Joanna Newsom, Diamanda Galas, even Bjork's voice were harder to understand. In comparison, Grimes's vocals are pretty experimental, but not at all alienating.
Ill never forget when i met her in philly when i was standing outside the tla to see lykke..i was like the only person out there.i met lykke earlier that day too.she introduced herself to me as claire..i see em taking out equipment...nd im like do u guys know who grimes is?? lol shes like thats me..im like word thats cool..u think u can get me backstage?..nd shes like i mean sure just ask him..im guessing it was her manager but he wasnt fuckin wit me like that lol.
Thats how should be, you expressed your opinion after hear her music, and dont liked because the voice(most people who dislikes really dont like her voice),you expressed your opinion with respect and i respect your respect.
Eh, it is an old trope in the dance music scene that originated with appropriation of bindis (India). By this stage if you did that you would get accused of being a horrible white proto-colonialist culturally appropriating another culture without consent - which is prob half-accurate. So it's easier to stick with dots or fake gems. But yeah. Techno hippie stylistics for better or worse aren't new.
Tbh bindis do actually look better than fake gems and dots, so it's a shame, but, i have myself decided that borrowing aesthetics while ignoring the original culture is.. problematic
The only person I know that you mentioned other than Grimes obviously, is Bjork. I'm a pretty big Bjork fan. Either I'm misunderstanding you, or you're misunderstanding me, but I like Grimes' vocals. I like everything about her music. I totally agree that it's not alienating. I love when people can be experimental without overdoing it and alienating you. there should always be a little bit of pop in experimental music, otherwise it can just sound like pretentious noise.
ha ha, finally I heard her say that she fuckin' hates how people say that she's cute or adorable, 'cause when I got interested in her and what she does, I instantly noticed all this ridiculous drooling about her, all these silly girl crushes and all these childish nonsenses about her music and Grimes herself. I like how she actually is serious about what she does and how she isn't childish at all, she's just free.
5:33 "A swan in the body of a hyena, about to emerge from the mouth of the hyena"... Looks like she just came up with a name for the next hip post-rock band!
u r not missing anything. she's mainly just hitting buttons, playing the keyboard occasionally and singing. but that's not really the point. she's a bedroom musician and is performing things that take more than one person to actually play all the parts. Panda Bear has done the same thing, only he's begun to play more guitar since the last album. Grimes is more of a composer. I'm sure she enjoys performing, but like most artist, they perform cos they have to. she'd rather be in a studio writing
I utterly adore her. She's quite intelligent and insanely creative. And very beautiful in a very unique way.
i see u on alot of her interview comment sections :)

She is an artist, not only a musician, she makes art
Music is an art form, the definition of art is to create so I could spit on some banana and it could be art.
Yeah... ALL music is art.
music is art
She's the best ever. Creative, intelligent, ethereal, hyperactive, awkward, weird, funny, cute, hot. Everything. A genius.
What I learned: Claire is a swan in a hyena's body so when the hyena rips open its mouth the swan comes out and goes "HEWAHHHH"
I really want to draw a swan being vomited out by a Hyena
get like a picturesque face of her
