      Everyone saying cats are dominant are uneducated. Domesticated cats are domesticated because of evolution. Cats have been overtime controlled by human. Just like dogs. Cats look at us as their whole world. Even at the times they are kittens taken away from their mother. Your feet are a sign of feeding. That's the first thing they see when you go to get their food ready for serving. Now tamed cats are wild and haven't been domesticated by humans as long. Evolution hasn't hit them. The birth rate is very very slow with tamed cats. Meaning you can't change the DNA as much as you can with domesticated house cats. You can have multiple litter with one cat domesticated which makes its litter domesticated. Tamed cats like lions WILL NEVER BE DOMESTICATED!!! unless you have a family lineage over a period of approx 300-400 years to tame an entire population of lions. Even then you will still not be able to draw the wild from the animals DNA as much as a period of thousands of years. We have to be the leader of every pack, clan, etc.

    I don't know about all domesticated animal being tame - there's a lot of antisocial domesticated animals. Dogs are known for it - some dogs, after being abused or living in certain conditions will end up being afraid of any human. Cows probably kill more people than most if not all animals - a stressed out cow on a bad day will fuck you up or kill you and then give you a couple of bonus pokes while you're laying in the dirt unconscious. While taming and domestication are clearly different terms, I don't think there's a hierarchy between them - you can have sweet wild animals and completely unapproachable domesticated animals.

      You are 100 percent correct, I now live in South America and have many tame animals that I have acquired along with my domesticated dogs and there is really no difference. Any intelligent animal can become acclimated to living with humans.

  • @Lerkero

    Bison not wanting to be confined to small spaces does not make them 'dicks'. It makes them smart.
    Plenty of animals can be domesticated in some way, just not in the way that humans consider cats and dogs domesticated. I think the problem is really about what we consider domestication to be.

    Theres something to be learned here. We give animals nice things, when they do right. But when a human does it, there is no reward, and in many cases you end up regretting being nice to people. Now we know why selflessness is rare amungst humans. We have been trained in behavioral science in the opposite manor that we train animals. Thus, opposite result. Bad part is, this can create a cycle of reinforcement. Subject A - With zero trust, and is selfish, will act in a way that will make Subject-B begin to have zero trust, and develop selfish behaviors. Subject-B will then spread it to Subject - C, via the same behavioral pattern displayed by the source, Subject - A

    Domestication doesn't take as long as you think. Look at the Russian foxes. They were bred for their degree of tameness and within just a few generations became a lot like dogs. So much so that they started displaying dog like characteristics; their coats started to change colors, their ears started to droop, they no longer held their tails up and and they started to retain puppy like qualities. So it may just be that canines domesticate very quickly.

    Not all domestic animals are tame. We have a feral population of cats in our area. We tried to tame a litter of two kittens that belonged to a mom who was a very skittish and pathetic stray (my sisters and I. Mostly my sisters that time). We named them Sebastian and Viola (I had been reading "Twelfth Night" and the names got into my sisters' heads I guess). Sebastian is one of the sweetest cats I've ever known. He's skittish like his mom, so if you move too fast he'll bolt, but he likes nothing better than sitting on laps purring and kneading, or wrestling with toy mice. Viola is wild enough we were able to get her fixed for free. When they were kittens my sister and one of her friends decided to give them baths. Sebastian didn't resist at all. He meowed pathetically, but didn't even try to climb out. Viola completely shredded the friend's arms before she could even be brought inside. Kind of interesting, considering the same effort was put into taming both, and they were related.

    i read in a natgeo issue about a group of russian researchers tried to domesticate foxes. they select the most docile ones and mate them. over 3-4 generations they get foxes as docile as any dog (they even wag tails and demand belly rubs) . this experiment may proves that by selective breeding, some previously-considered wild animals can eventually be domesticated
    they also breed the absolute vicious foxes by mating the most violent of the bunch

    Also, the fact of the matter is that domestication is more than just befriending a nice animal. It is a lengthy process that utilizes selective breeding that slowly alters the progeny of a once wild species into a more sociable and manageable variation. You still can't really domesticate 'true' wolves, because they don't have the human-friendly traits that were specifically bred into dogs.

    Here in Sweden people have tried to tame and domesticate moose over and over again during history. They can be tamed, but they can't really be domesticated because they are jerks when it comes to some parts. For example people have been trying to teach moose to be ridden upon, but they don't like that at all and go crazy. But tamed moose can be really cute and nice towards you. For example there's a moose park about 50 km away from where I live, and I went there two summers ago. The moose where so friendly and wanted to be petted on their heads and backs, but they weren't domesticated because their calves won't know that humans are friendly, you have to teach them that we'll give them food and pet them. But if they continue throughout several generations they may be domesticated one day. :)

    Regarding pandas... Did they try in vitro with them instead of doing it "naturally"? IMO it would work better mainly because pandas in question wouldn't have any say in the matter. They don't need to like each other, they don't even need to meet each other. It's just that vet makes female panda sleep and when she wokes up, she's pregnant.

    I wouldn't consider a wild animal tame just because it isn't afraid of humans. I think that the animal has to go through the taming process to be considered tame. Those animals in the Galapagos are not tame, they are just not naturally afraid of us. Polar bears/tiger sharks/salties aren't generally afraid of humans either, but I wouldn't call any of them tame (unless someone has tamed the particular individual).

    Speaking of elephants, the original practitioners of muay thai consider themselves to be spiritually connected to elephants and are a big reason we know how to handle them at all. I can't imagine rabbits did well when they were first inside. Also, foxes are being officially domesticated, silver foxes specifically. I feel that domestication isn't wrong inherently if we preserve the species it came from, i'd be in favor of not using animals if we didn't have to, but not for a sentimental reason and rather because if we develop a method that makes it so we don't have to use animals its probably just more efficient. The level we'd have to be at technologically, to me, seems like it's have to be advanced to say the least so it reasons that whatever method we'd be using would be simply better.

    we actually bred domestic foxes in about 15-17 generations. they look alot like pomeranians. they bred the tamer ones with other tamer foxes and got fluffier more friendly foxes. did the same thing in reverse too. bred the more feral foxes with other feral foxes and that changed their appearance as well. they looked more wild and feral and of course they had a poor disposition .

    • @garu4584
      @garu4584 8 лет назад +2

      +KagaiYami domestication still is a process of dozens and hundreds of
      generations, but it's easy for some oh-so-educated researchers to tell
      people out there that they have domesticated foxes, but changing the
      shape and some small behavioural traits within a few decades is NOT
      domestication. it's more a kind of adaption to the circumstances. I'm
      not saying that I doubt that they will be successful sometime in the
      future, but I doubt that they should brag about "having domesticated
      foxes" just now already, since this does a lot of harm to these animals.
      Look at the internet and at all those people who think they can have a
      pet fox easily now, and then look at the foxes that are being abandoned
      or mistreated for what they still are - not domesticated and still very
      close to being tamed.

    there is an interesting theory that suggests that just maybe some animals will yield to those who understand them and not just their attributes. To what degree is the animal being domesticated and not the human? There are so many things to consider from the perspective of the animal kingdom that really minimizes our motives which are usually scientific or labor related. You have to admit that when we say domesticate that basically means reprogramming the animal and it's behavior to serve us.

    • @johnpatterson5813
      @johnpatterson5813 8 лет назад

      and whether or not that type of service will be deemed fair unto God is thru the conscious balance of the human conducting the domestication

  • @GoranXII

    Point #3 can be overcome somewhat with large litter sizes, and then selecting the most friendly ones, as was done by Soviet scientists with silver foxes. As for the horse/zebra thing, that's probably less to do with what's actually possible, and more to do with whether we're willing to spend several centuries on this one project, for a result that will never be able to pay off.
    Actually, those foxes cause issues with #1 and #2, they were kept in cages (#1), and for the most part lack real hierarchy (#2), and yet, the Soviets took them from wild to Semi-domesticated in well under a century. The whole project has been running less than 70 years (established in 1948), and yet, look at the results.

    • @wolfboy18
      @wolfboy18 8 лет назад

      +Matthew Marden You fail to realize though that those foxes have also started to show Extreme aggression and violent behavior not seen in wild foxes, also they are being Litter Milled for their Fur, so they are often kept in small cages, with 3 or more in a single one. But you also have to see their body language and general behavior to also know this, and I have watched several documentaries on this one subject.

    • @GoranXII
      @GoranXII 8 лет назад

      +Lone Wolf The aggression wasn't something unexpected, they actually deliberately bred the most unfriendly foxes time and again to see what would happen, in the same way the bred the friendliest ones.
