    • @jkorshak
      @jkorshak 5 лет назад +8

      I'm glad you're glad - here's the deal on the swastika.
      Just because it is historically correct in this iteration does not dismiss the legitimate trauma of people who suffered or had family who suffered immensely and unimaginably by forces whose flags and iconography sported that symbol.
      I believe aircraft owners should be able to paint what they want on their aircraft (within aviation guidelines where applicable), including swastikas on their German warbirds.
      But I also recognize and accept that there are many people and their families who have legitimate reasons for hating the very idea.
      As for the crap argument that the swastika means a lot of other things and has been used in various forms for thousands of years, cut the crap - we all know what it means when a swastika is on a german warbird, circa 1933-45.
      What I don't get is how, in the case of a German warbird NOT sporting a swastika because the aircraft owner has made their own choice for their own reasons, that such an omission brings a bunch of hand wringing over such a blow to history you'd think the Library of Alexandria had burned down again.
      Every damn video there's a german warbird without a swastika, oh, the humanity, and every video of a german warbird WITH a swastika, "glad to see the swastika."
      It's almost as if people are so proud of knowing there were swastikas on german warbirds they make a point to reflect how historically important it is.
      Just enjoy the beautiful aircraft and stfu.

    • @jkorshak
      @jkorshak 5 лет назад

      Some German warbirds have swastikas - and that's fine with me - but I recognize and respect the reasons why other people might be horrified by this. Some German warbirds DON'T have swastikas - and that's fine with me - because I recognize and respect the aircraft owner's right to adorn his aircraft the way he wants to. What I don't recognize or respect is the idea that IF a german warbird doesn't have a swastika that this is some terrible assault on history and, by connection, that if the german warbird DOES have a swastika, that the historical component of it dismisses the legitimate horror such iconography has come to represent. And I am contemptuous of the laughable idea that a swastika on a German warbird is there representing anything other than the Third Reich and the nazis.

    The original paint scheme was photographed and documented during restoration and was recreated during painting. (Although the exact shades are being debated, and some RLM color numbers were experimental when this plane was in service.) It is using the JG54 summer camouflage colors which can be found on other aircraft also.

    Lost on 19-July-1943 in a remote Russian forest and pilot was POW. Abandoned by Luftwaffe and overgrown with trees. It remained mostly undisturbed with few items removed. Filmed in 1989 and recovered in 1991 (post Soviet collapse) to the UK. Partial restoration by first owner, then sold Flying Heritage Collection. Restoration to full original condition completed by 2010, with the first flight in Dec. 2010. Now with FHC museum and flies on scheduled flying days a few times per year.

    The paint is not wrong. It's JG54 summer camouflage of greens and browns, which you can research for more info. Engine sabotage is one theory for the crash. The original Luftwaffe combat report states loss from flak, but no battle damage was found during restoration and it was determined that the engine had failed. Several accounts (including a direct account from one of the restoration team) stated that the engine oil lines were blocked by foreign objects or rags.

    This is the ONLY airworthy restored WWII original Fw190 and it has an actual BMW 801. This was a very high quality restoration to exact original condition, and this museum re-manufactures original parts when needed. One or two other WWII original Fw190s are still being restored and I know one of those will be airworthy. The other examples are not restored originals and come from a new production run of 21 replica aircraft with the Russian/Chinese radials.

    Colors were matched from areas less likely to have weathered. When the paint was finished, there was some debate over the exact color shades. Some felt that the colors would have come from local "captured" sources such as Russian paint stocks while others believed the paints were RLM color shades. JG54 may have been field testing early versions of RLM 81/82 colors during the time period that this plane was lost and photos show other planes painted similar.

To me the technology can be separated from the ideology and still represent what was the leading edge for a time during WWII. What makes any public display of Nazi symbology is the modern appropriation glorifying their time and Hitler's megalomania. Does anyone find it odd that the rising sun on replica's of the A6M doesn't ruffle the same feathers?

    Fw190 F-8 #931832 is under restoration to original condition (airworthy) and should be finished over the next few years. It flew with the standard blue/gray camouflage and was lost on 9-Feb 1945, so it's possible that it had the remains of winter whitewash, but I'm unsure if that will be featured on the final paint.

    if you gonna think of it that way,there are still engines manufacturer in UK and US that made engines for planes,tanks etc during ww2... such a stupid comment.. as one wrote here,it wasnt the engine that killed... it was the man piloting the aircraft,or the crew of the tank etc.. it is never the weapon that kills,but the man behind it...

    We have two seater Spitfires going overhead all day long where I live ( 20 miles SE of London). Sometimes one does a barrel roll. It's almost boring .That's big old boys , or girls, enjoying their 60th birthday - at great cost. When are we going to see a two seat FW ?

    One minute and fifty seconds of zzzzzz, followed by two seconds of engine run. What makes you believe people are interested in nothing vs. the beautiful sound of that BMW 801 radial?

      + @christopherslane7830 This video was made when the Fw-190 arrived at Paul Allen's museum by truck and it was being reassembled. They were performing the first engine checks and were not making any flights.

    @trupr that is also nice, I would like to see one with a winter camo, you know, light blues, and grays, and whites, would look awsome, have you have ever heard of the Ta-152, it was the mustang of the German Luffwaffe, it was very nice.

      + Boar Zwid The camouflage was reproduced based on examination of the plane after it was cleaned. Also from photos of other JG54 Fw-190s in Summer 1943 colors. wingstracksguns.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/focke-wulf-fw-190a-5-sc250-parachute-1024x628.jpg

    it looks kinda funny how the swastika is on the tail of that FW-190 because here in Germany it's forbidden

    There is a replica flying in Germany now, and several other Fw190 replicas have flown there. Germany also has 3 flying Me109s and a replica Me 262. It's only not legal to display the swastika there.

    What the?
    All of that ... it finally starts ... then abruptly ends! Why did they not continue filming!?! I swear, not too long ago I watched a video and the person cut away just as the engine started! Now this one the engine starts and we get just less than 10 seconds of it running! Argh!

    @the82spartans Apparently remanufactured engines were sent to operating units from factories back at home. Due to a wartime shortage of homegrown labor, they often used slave labor as they did in many other industries. Some of those laborers simply sabotaged the German war machine by making dud shells, poorly constructed equipment and in this case apparently, a really crappy remanufactured engine. Obviously time took presidence over quality control in those days.

      As per manual, spinning up the flywheel per auxiliary power took 15 to 20 seconds, so that's pretty quick.

    @trupr yes the 190 was one of the best when it came to radial engine fighters, to me it would look good with a black, and gray camo, with a yellow nose, what do u think?
