- To celebrate the coming Christmas season we've recorded a few of our favourite Christmas carols, for you to sing along with us from your homes.
This one is the old Basque carol 'Gabriel's Message', or 'The Angel Gabriel', which tells the story of Gabriel's visit to the Virgin Mary and her reaction to the news of her being with child. This is an old arrangement of the folk melody by the English choral conductor and organist Edgar Pettman.

Oh dear, I really thought I'd be able to listen to this by now - I lost my lovely Dad 18 months ago at the age of 93. He had sung in a choir for most of his life as a bass and now I just can't listen to things like this without the tears flowing. This is a carol I have loved since I was a child in the 1960s. Maybe by Christmas this year it'll be OK ... it really is beautiful.
Is there anything more mysterious, miraculous and marvelous than the incarnation of God in human flesh, our Lord Jesus Christ?

Love your technique. No over the top vibrato, no funny throat movements to change the timbre, just natural, clear singing. Sounds way more religious, almost like Gregorian Chant.

Was kinda hoping Jonathan would double the bass at the octave every now and then....
As a child I used to listen to Missa Papae Marcelli from an unknown encyclopedic CD. This was such a rare opportunity in Russia those days.. I fell in love with one male voice and tried to find something like it for many years when discovering some new music. Christopher Bruerton sounds very much like it, thank you, the amazing King's Singers!

For the musicians who would like to join in with playing. Written key is Am, performed in Abm.
the pitch is actually 415. So if you've a baroque instrument for this pitch, you're playing in Am, but it sounds a semitone lower. Playing on a modern instrument in Abm might be a hassle. But practice makes perfect..
