Yup, don’t have to worry about those systems. If you go with a lexan windshield, you would probably be in a position to dump those systems as well. This would be a very last step for anyone building a car. My windshield was already chipped, and cracked, so it was a good time to yank it.
Any update on abrasion resistance? I assume you removed your wiper system.. but I still have mine. Wondering if I’ll run into any issues with abrasion from wipers or even cleaning with a towel if there’s any particles in between the towel and the poly
I no longer have wipers, I don’t drive in the rain so it’s added weight. So far I haven’t had any yellowing or any noticeable scratches. I use a poly wind screen spray cleaner and two micro fibers, a wet one and then a dry one. So far so good.
I just received my optic armor windshield for my c5 z06 . I thought the factory zo6 windshield weighed 30 lbs and the non zo6 weighs 36. what thickness did you get 1/4 inch? Mine is being installed this week. I am going to show the installer this video. Thanks for info. Can you tell me what your car weighs.
My glass wasn’t stock GM glass anymore. So it may have a significant weight difference. Trimming may not be required depending on thickness of any foam used. I went with 3/8” which shouldn’t require any support, but I didn’t like the amount of flex so I added one anyways. If I’m being totally weight conscience, I can get the car down to 3000ish coming off track. For competition I have to be 3260lbs coming off track. Dry the car is around 2800ish.
@@Poweredby8Racing Thanks for the quick response. I am required to run 1/4 inch front. I talked to the shop that works on it and told them what you did and they said they would brace it.I was wondering what wheels you are running and size. I am trying to get some more weight off. It was scaled 2 weeks ago and it weighed 3248 with me in it and 3/4 full fuel tank. I weigh 200. That was just coming off the track. I just bought a rear 18x12.5 set of light weight "20lb" racing wheels . I have a after market set that weigh 31,5 lbs on now. Fronts are factory 18 from rear of c5 z06. Very light . getting new carbon fiber steering wheel. that weighs1.4 pounds . I still have the factory one with the airbag. Do you know what the factory steering wheel weighs? I can weigh 2950 in my class so i can lose around 300 pounds . I run in the SCCA north east region GT2 class
1/4” I’d ask Optic Armor how much bracing they require, cause I’m pretty sure it’ll be a requirement. I run Forgeline, 12” front with a 335, 40lbs, and 13” rear with a 345, 43lbs. If I could do it over I’d go Finspeed. GSPEED is the only shop I trust anymore and a Finspeed dealer. As far as weight, front hood and brackets, headlights (light bars are lighter if needed), rear deck lid (IF FRC/z06), rear glass a little bit, but a lot on base model. Carpet and all that jazz. Windshield wiper motor. Because I run a MOTEC and proper harnesses, my wires are 1/3 of a factory harness. I didn’t weigh factory wheel, but I’m sure it’s heavy. I also cut my steering column bracket down as much as possible, was like 2lbs, cut out rear trunk tub. Basically start getting rid of every last thing not needed. I gain a little back cause the dry sump equipment, dual oil coolers and trans and diff pumps. 2980 is achievable, but I bet it’s going to require a heavy investment in Motorsport grade equipment.
@@Poweredby8Racing I'm truly interested in doing this. 15lbs loss is about the min I'd except for the amount of effort. But seeing as current windshield has a crack in it from road Atlanta. Issue is I can call my insurance and it's free vs spend $600 for this thing. So do you know the honest weight loss or was the scaling skewed for both measurements?
@@MrSideways1 Im confident it's more than 15lbs and well worth the change. I had to add ballast back to the car after installing the windown. Of course adding weight isn't ideal, but at least I can now put the weight where I want it.
I literally just bought a Optic Armor for my C7. Enjoyed the video and now looking forward to installing mine on my heavy ass pig
I was amazed with how much free weight it was.
Sounds good for a track car. Don’t know how it would do with HUD or PDR.

Awesome thanks for the reply!
21 GT500 here - HPDE days. Appreciate your video just searching for anyone who's installed these windows.
What thickness did you go with?
I used a 3/16” optic armor drop in with black frame.

So Corvette Forums says the C5Z windshield is 30lbs. Did you scale it at 55lbs?
The rear tire wasn’t fully seated on the scale, 35lbs sounds about right if I recall after I corrected it.
