Custom NRG Hub Adapter for Woodward Steering Column - C5 C6 Corvette
Просмотров 357Год назад
There is no off the shelf hub adapter that allows the use of a 3rd part quick release with the Woodward Steering Column. This is the solution I came up with for my application. Hopefully soon, NRG will work with us and have one manufactured that will bridge the gap even closer.

This video covers how I tackled installing a Woodward Steering Column in my C5 Corvette time trial car. This steering column saves around 10lbs over the stock tile steering clumn. It is pretty amazing and more than I expected. Pound for Dollar was money well spent and wish I would have done this a long time ago!!!

Corner Balance - C5/C6 Corvette - Always end car setup with Corner Balance!!!
Просмотров 360Год назад
Installed some new springs in the car and needed to get the balance reset properly. This shows how much weight can be adjusted without losing any of your alignment settings. As long as you spin LF/RR opposite of RF/LR then the alignment and ride heights should not change. This is why order of operation is important when setting up your car and corner balancing should always be done last.

My 98 supercharged LS1 finally gave out after a decade of HPDE. Cyl 7 and 8 rods came through the block. Funny part is the rod bolts were still intact. Use to be all kinds of writeups on internet about weak rod bolts...lol
Eek, that stinks
Well, excited to see a new upload, definitely sad about all the issues you ran into. Just as i thought my ViR event was shitty, you definitely topped it, lol. Best guess for the failure is a slow bearing failure, since you mentioned it got slower/lost power, until the bearing probably completely seized and shot things out the block. Got plans for a replacement? Or playing it by ear? Appreciate your vids!
I have the previous LS3 already dropped at the machine shop. See what can be done with it.
Sorry about the engine failure. It's been a while since you posted. Has it been that long since the carchas been driven? Like you said. "It's hard to know" unless you find something during teardown. If the data looked good, my guess is simple fatigue in the aluminum block and/or steel rotating components. It's interesting how they failed after not using it for a long time. Everything has its heat and rpm duty cycles. Looking forward to the rebuild and changes to the car. Keep up the good work. I have been seeing your products more often; Aero updates like front splitter and rear spoilers that integrate coolers etc.
Yup, Oct 2023, was the last event… been on the lift relaxing.
So if you only add shims to the rear, you would be reducing caster, wouldn’t that also reduce camber? Just making sure I understand.
Yes, that is correct. Any caster adjustments will also change your camber and toe potentially a little toe as well. This is the spiral effect of checking everything as you go.
“It mimics the uhhh…” “…So!…” made me chuckle. Thanks for the series.
Where could one purchase the rubber pucks that fill the empty space? My father's F250 has the air bags, but the bottom plate slowly rolls off to the side when we hook our work trailer.
Just call the number in the video. They sent them to me.
was wondering what spring rate you run front and rear?
850F/1000R but its depends on many things.
Thank you man
You’re like the only one who explained this process in detail. Great video.
Where did the sound go?
Works fine on my end still.
@@Poweredby8Racing hmmm, I'm getting no sound and sound is all the way up. Other videos work fine.
@aurktman1106 not sure. I tried on my phone and computer. Someone one reported the same on another video, but then said they worked it out on their end. Sorry. :(
Extremely confusing video
Fantastic
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Amazing dad creating core memories!!!
dit your u bolts on the truck got twisted ..? im not sure if that it will cost any problem ..
No, none of my bolts are twisted.
@@Poweredby8Racing do u have the torque numbers of the bolts of the lower bracket
If I remember I just did them tight
Cool. Thank you.
If you could put a kit together and sell it as a whole with instructions that would be great 😂
Awesome tutorial and video. Also got a gravedigger and plan on doing something similar.
It’s a lot of fun to see the kids having a blast!
Agh, they change the 2625 kit again. They change the lower spring bracket. The slot is even shorter that needs to potentially share the airbag bolt and the lower support bracket if you needed it.
That is a big help for my install today! I think I got the new kit with rubber pucks but the instructions have an update stapled to the outside of the install guide that still wasn’t clear. Especially since they had a diagram of a jounce support and a lower support bracket in the original install guide.

Sounds good for a track car. Don’t know how it would do with HUD or PDR.
Yup, don’t have to worry about those systems. If you go with a lexan windshield, you would probably be in a position to dump those systems as well. This would be a very last step for anyone building a car. My windshield was already chipped, and cracked, so it was a good time to yank it.
I didn't realize the race sanctioning bodies would allow copper to be used for brake lines.
YES!
Putting a socket inside the fittings before you clamp the vice grip on will keep them from collapsing and will make the removal process quicker and easier.
What are the advantages of switching to Woodward? Are you leaving it with no power assistance? Do you think it will have any performance benefits in terms of ratio or feel
It’s a more direct feel to the steering inputs. Power steering system is still there, and stock c6 rack.
@@Poweredby8Racing Oh sorry I misunderstood. Stock C6 rack. Would the woodward column work well on a street car that only sees mountain roads?
@LT64444 I think it would be a lot of work for not much if any noticeable results.
Dude! Thank you!!!!
Do you have a link to parts used?
I can look around, but it was all over the place.
@@Poweredby8Racing I would love to have a list of parts if possible as well. Thank you.
Just wanted to say thanks for posting so much great content. Your videos have been massively helpful as I’m building my C6. Let me know where to send a bottle of whiskey 👍
Bad idea, it has to be open to cool down the exhaust - NEVER underestimate Subaru-Toyota engineers - they are the best
The car never experienced any issues after this modification. But thank you for your concern. Heat in flat floor cars with rear exit exhausts is always an internal cabin issue. In this case it did not hurt it. In other cars, such as our corvettes, it’s something that has to be addressed.
They just peanut butter and JEALOUS 😂
Pretty much… :)
Very informal video, I am aware this is a race car not a street car but I noticed the bottle is mounted where the secondary fuse box usually is. Where did you relocate it?
The car no longer uses the stock harness or computer. It’s ran off of a MOTEC, so that area is free. ruclips.net/video/At-ry3wrKps/видео.htmlsi=PmTxdYGRKqp7Zzm1
Any update on abrasion resistance? I assume you removed your wiper system.. but I still have mine. Wondering if I’ll run into any issues with abrasion from wipers or even cleaning with a towel if there’s any particles in between the towel and the poly
I no longer have wipers, I don’t drive in the rain so it’s added weight. So far I haven’t had any yellowing or any noticeable scratches. I use a poly wind screen spray cleaner and two micro fibers, a wet one and then a dry one. So far so good.
Awesome thanks for the reply!
booz im dannnJr
Hey bud!
What size caps for the power steering lines
I'd love to see a video on how you did your removable bumper and splitter assembly. Right now only my splitter is removable, but yours looks a lot simpler to install/remove.
I used some through bolts to attach the splitter to the lip of the bumper. This is an aftermarket number so the lip is what really helped make this an easier solution. But the lip is also the reason I needed to do this, because the lip didn’t lay flat I had to force it with fastener. Zebulon would rather I not do it this way in case of an excursion, I may lose the bumper and the splitter vs just the splitter. Just food for thought.
@@Poweredby8Racing I'm just an autocrosser so no real chance of an off. Having the ease of taking whole front end off the car would make it great for loading on trailer.
I have both brackets. I like the original longer bracket and I welded stops on it so it can't come off the bracket. Just 1/4" tabs on each side of the puck keeps it from sliding. I then drilled 2 holes and put a u bolt on under the jounce bumper so that the bracket doesn't want to lift upwards near the leaf stack. The center of my bolt into the airbag is right at the edge of jounce bumper so it's aligned. I went through everything you did with tech support and what they tell you to do still isn't a great design. There shouldn't even be a slot it should just have a single hole so it can't move. Also the spacer puck is a must not sure why they didn't think of that from the beginning
Thanks for the update about how many inches does the bag raise the rear. I want to install the kit on my 550 RV and I need to lift the rear to get up my driveway without scraping. Thanks Mike
I’ve never measured. But I can visually tell a couple inches easy.
Thanks do you think they would fit a F 550 or does Firstone make a kit for the 550 Thanks Mike
@LowOnCash no idea… :/ they are very helpful and knowledgeable though so if you shoot them an email I’m positive they will get you squared away.
Great review I have a F 550 with a Renegade Vercruz would that same kit work on a 550 as well. Second question does the air ride make the ride any smoother I can feel every bump on mu rig. Thanks Mike
Im slowly but surly turning my c5 into a more track dedicated car. The steering wheel/seats/harness have been put off long enough and I want to do it right. This is obviously next level but looks like NRG quick release is the way to go. Any advice or suggestions?
If you are sticking to stock steering column, the NRG adapter hub is needed. Then you can choose any quick release based on what you like and budget. I like the Krontec as the actual quick release.
@@Poweredby8Racing So I get the NRG SRK-170H and the Krontech QR-03 and the wheel I want?
sweet
I am just about to install the same system on my car, you could have easily edited the system activation out but you left it in which really helps, I will make sure that I have my control switch in de-activated position and have the pipework temporarily pointing outside the car until i have finished wiring up
Just don’t have the wires plugged into the box and you’ll be good to go. This was. Test for science… yeah that’s it. Haha
Hi I was wondering if you had any original drive hubs for the grave digger power wheel you would sell.
Sorry, thought I had replied. No the stock boxes were given to a friend.
Great informative video content. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about alignments and related parts. ❤
great !!! uncle boozshey i find you :D
Oh man cutting that hood up hurt my wallet lol
Is this an independent system or does it need to be hooked up to the ecu?
It’s independent, but talks with the MOTEC CAN system for data logging and what not. I can connect to it via Bosch software to setup and what not though.
@9:45 😂😂😂
Thanks for this video. I want to use this kit on my truck, but with taller blocks in the rear of my truck, I wasn't going to be able to use those little support brackets, but since I have the jounce supports I should be good.
Sick build. That sucks they banned her. I mean honestly if they had no rules set in the first place then I don't think they should have banned it. It looks like it was a run what you brung type event so yea they were being extra with the banning.
Thanks for the details in both these videos for the airbags.
