My parents have this really great technique that got my brother and I biking super quickly. Rather than learning by doing it like how you'd regularly be doing it, you take the pedals off. This way, you propel yourself with your feet, and in the process learn the balancing part really quickly. Put them back on, and now that you've got balancing down, all you have to do is pedal. Which you'd already been doing with training wheels! Bada bing, bada boom, you can ride a bike.
YAAAY i'm glad you went back to rollerskating! I bought my first pair of rollerskates last year and it has honestly been the best thing ever :) Skating as fast as Lightning Mcqueen is a part of my personality now LOL
this made me happy. like super super happy. As someone who roller skated and played roller derby my entire childhood up until now I can confirm it's really hard on the roads but it gets easier.

I didn’t ride my bike again for like three years and I forgot how to ride it My friend: oh…….
And I hope I'm not the only one that crashed into a tree with a dirtbike and got sent to the emergency room with my whole elbow skin off when I was five
When I was little, my dad taught my big sister to ride a bike, and I overheard him telling her how “if you don’t wear a helmet you’ll crack your head open and die!” which instilled a fear in me of riding a bike. So I didn’t learn to ride a bike until I was like, 10 LMAO

I couldn't turn and I kept crushing in the neighbour's hedge. I gave up, and actually rode a bike first time, in middle school. So happy I'm not alone in this 😅
5:33 yes you will, because I am going to tell you the secret to stopping on rollerblades. It’s as simple as turning the blades perpendicular to your direction of travel, either right or left is fine. But since the wheels are only meant to go forward not sideways, friction will build up which is exactly how the brakes work to stop your car: causing so much friction to slow and stop the car. Try that sometime. Also, try learning to ride a bike on a somewhat flat surface, this will help with finding your balance in the long run, and then move up to little hills and always avoid potholes.
Hi! I know I’m really late to this video, but I’ve been rewatching my favorite YTbers now I’ve gotten my old iPad back, and I’ve watched this video! I’m not too good at rollerskating, but a few ways I stop safely is; 1- Drag a toe-stopper (ONLY ONE THOUGH) slowly to stop! 2-Try go really slowly, and then you can balance on your toe stoppers 3- I do this thing with any leg, just put it out , and use it to kinda spin, but it will slow you down, and eventually stop! :D (I hope you see this , since you’re my favorite RUclipsr to rewatch since your videos really helped me through depression, I really want the best for you ^^)

There’s as many cars as Americans. We just coordinate rides home from parents, friends, older siblings, etc. Or in cities they take buses or metros. America is so spread out that it’s just not easy to bike a lot of places. Nor is it safe.
Same. My biggest problem was that I lived with my mom on a gravel road so I didn't have much to bike on and didn't see my dad often enough to effectively learn.
I never figured out biking without training wheels until I was 13. Then covid hit us like a ton of bricks... I still consider the scooter as the best option for traveling as a person with motion sickness
I also have never learned how to ride a bike. I also tried multiple times as a child, though the final time is the one I really remember. My parents and I were at the park. My father was trying to help me balance and helped push me kind of down this small hill. I lost control and crashed into a small tree. I fell and got a few of my fingers pinned between the bike and the tree, and I was bleeding. I started to cry so hard, and for some reason, my father thought this was funny and proceeded to laugh instead of help (at least until my mom yelled at him to help me). After that, I refused to get back on and continued to refuse any other attempt.
During my first year of college, a guy I met in his 20’s didn’t know how to ride a bike, and I spent half the day teaching him how to ride, and he eventually got it
Same thing for me, actually. Could never figure out how the hell to ride a bike, but roller skating? hell yeah. I ended up learning to go really fast too lol. been awhile since I was skating regularly but I'm trying to get back into it. Really want to get my own pair but haven't found any I want yet.
@@janea123 That's always the problem I had with even just inline roller skates, can't balance on a line for some reason. My balance is really good otherwise, that's just seemingly impossible for me

currently on a mandatory break from longboarding in my path to hopefully learn longboard dancing because i broke my nose lol i am sooooo exciting to get back to it when i can! congrats on getting back into rollerskating!
"I love doing all these things, but it seemed like I'd always hit a wall that all the other kids got over so easily." SO DAMN RELATABLE!!! Seriously, as a highly sensitive person, I was always kind of a scaredy-cat. I always wanted to go fast but extremely scared of skateboarding down a hill, for example. I always wanted to do these kinds of exciting things, but I was so scared of doing them to the point of everyone else in my class being able to do it but me! It was always so frustrating! (Especially since I was so easily bored.)
@@stellaclairecreations5036 It's like when you're an HSP, you have a stronger desire to do things and doing certain things feel more amazing to you than others, but you're also the only person you know that is too scared to do it...
As a kid, I’ve pretty much done all the major on-wheels disciplines (skateboarding, scootering, biking, inline skating) and amongst them all, I can confirm stopping is definitely the hardest on inlines. The fact that they’re stuck to your feet and no assurance of bailing also adds to the fear/endeavor of stopping buts it’s doable, just after a good amount of practice.
I’m proud of u for getting back out there and skating again! I’ve had a pair of skates since like 8th grade and I get so down on myself about how I could be so great now if I would have just started back then, this gave me the confidence that it’s never too late to try something you think you’ll love 💜 thanks illy
I feel your pain, one time when I was drawing I couldn’t get the drawing structure right so I came to the conclusion that animation wasn’t for me but then I jumped back when I came on to the FlipaClip Community where my iPad was my canvas
My dad did the "hold and let go" method when I was learning to ride a bike, didn't realize he already let go... and bang, I slammed into a concrete wall. I still laugh whenever I remember what happened, hahahahaha.
I never learned how to ride a bike either, for various reasons. But then when I was 26, I rented an adult trike for a trail ride to a lighthouse, and the level of freedom I felt was indescribable. Now I'm saving up to buy my own. I know some people think they lookblame, but as a 27 year old with a disability that means I struggle with stability, I thought I would never be able to ride a bike, and three wheels gave me the chance I needed. (Plus I teach preschool and the little kids think it's cool that I have 3 wheels too lol)
I am 26 and just learned how to ride one last month. I had the exact same strong will to learn but never understood why I couldn’t! Through the years family and sooo many friends dedicated time to teach me and I felt so bad everytime I would fail. But as sad as it sounds, my dream of riding a bike finally came true. But I definitely need to practice hehe.
I remember when my dad was teach me how to ride a bike and he did the whole I promise not to let go thing and when he let go I was doing it myself and I was just in pure awe that I was doing it. Just makes me laugh thinking about it. Thanks for teaching me how to ride a bike dad love you

@@tammiehoard3663 whoa, wow. Uh... How?
the sk8 the infinity references were amazing and i was hoping you would do that especially with your past of ✨anime characters✨ in your videos
while watching the video i just notice seeing Joe and Miya and Cherry from sk8 the infinty
I got so excited when I saw all of the sk8 characters
Illy, you probably won’t see this, but i just want you to know that you just saved a life.
I never figured out biking without training wheels until I was 13.
Then covid hit us like a ton of bricks...
I still consider the scooter as the best option for traveling as a person with motion sickness

@Just a very humble and honest human And your none of your name lmao

Same here, I ended up learning how to ride a scooter instead
Lol I literally learned how to bike in 4 hours with just a single tip from someone
How about ice skating? It’s so fun to see that you CAN WALK on a line! (not on the ice, but just the floor.)
@@janea123 That's always the problem I had with even just inline roller skates, can't balance on a line for some reason. My balance is really good otherwise, that's just seemingly impossible for me
I love how her mom is always in her work outfit no matter where they are 😂

Alright, right off the bat... I never really learned how to ride a bike either and this makes me feel so much better!

Illy: "Taking a break is all you need"
My brain: does this mean you can take a break from living????
Yes, I recently found this thing called sleeping, 10/10 would recommend
@@teresedaigle7336 We don't do that here, in the land of Video Game Addiction.
@Just a very humble and honest human thats not being humble and honest, its being rude and mean. If you wanna be Like that, you can just leave. Illy is an amazing person and animator. Just because you dont like animation, doesn't mean you get to hate on others that do animation or like it
Illy, I have the exact same problem but after watching this… I have more confidence in myself for roller skating, I just learned yesterday and I had so much fun!

thank you so much for including SK8 the Infinity references
I have never seen anyone include them!!
So relatable

As a kid, I’ve pretty much done all the major on-wheels disciplines (skateboarding, scootering, biking, inline skating) and amongst them all, I can confirm stopping is definitely the hardest on inlines. The fact that they’re stuck to your feet and no assurance of bailing also adds to the fear/endeavor of stopping buts it’s doable, just after a good amount of practice.
When you realize that Illy used Sk8 the Infinity characters

I feel your pain, one time when I was drawing I couldn’t get the drawing structure right so I came to the conclusion that animation wasn’t for me but then I jumped back when I came on to the FlipaClip Community where my iPad was my canvas
Once you said you still haven’t learned how to ride a bike, I related to that so hard.
@Just a very humble and honest human wait I was taking about her experiences with bikes. not animation
Her: scooters aren’t for me
Also her: being a pro on a scooter
Can relate, I only learned how to ride a bike at the age of 20 in 2019... Worth it
I am 26 and just learned how to ride one last month.
Thanks for teaching me how to ride a bike dad love you
It’s funny how I’m on roller skates right now. I’m skating down my hallway, around my room and around a bed, wearing ear buds, watching all your vids.
