Flight deck to Madeira on the Lufthansa A320neo!

- In this video we ride along on the A320neo flight deck to Funchal in Madeira - one Europe's most difficult landings, famous for its unpredictable winds and remarkable runway stretched over the sea on top of massive support beams. Lufthansa brings us along in the jumpseat from Munich (MUC) to Funchal (FNC), a roughly 4-hour flight, and along the way we get to hear some fascinating info from the captain about operating to Funchal as well as a number of other insights into being an A320NEO captain. Look out for some nice views of Mont Blanc by the way, and some other nice scenery too. But nothing can beat the landing views into Funchal, including Porto Santo just to its north and the 180-degree right turn over the island to land on Runway 05. Enjoy!

Fantastic production, such a great video you made, thanks for using my images, was a pleasure to meet you and to show Madeira Airport 👍👍👍
getting pinned and 70 likes and no replies? let me fix that.
Is it only me who thought the pilot in this was 74gear at the start 😂😂
😂 I was super confused too
Might be Kelsey undercover, we will never know 😏
it thought he might've been plumber, doctor or dentist his past life... You know..... You know.... Johnny sins...there
I thought it from the thumbnail, then realized it was flightradar, I didn't even know they had a channel. Cool
I thought so too 😂
Litteraly the best video i have seen in a very long time. Kudos to Lufthansa and Gabriel with his excellent filming skills.
I'm saving this one to my playlist for multiple views ... What an incredible video! I am so grateful to organizations like FlightRadar24, Lufthansa, and Madeira Plane Spotting for providing access to experiences like this. Absolutely informative and entertaining - THANK YOU
Thank you!
Fantastic. I can almost smell the “new plane” smell. Beautiful
This video and the previous one over the north pole with the A350 were fantastic videos with enough detail to let you know what it was like to be on those flight decks with the pilots. Superb sound and video, and just enough narration between those quiet moments. I hope Gabriel and FlightRadar24 get's more invites to the flight deck in the future, these are engaging and fun to watch!
I am sure that 100% of flightdeck crew have used flightradar24 more than once...
Excellent videoes you guys have been putting out lately! 😍😍
Thanks! Maybe one with Atlantic Airways next??
@@Flightradar24DotCom Well that is my favourite! 🤪
I went to Madeira (I am Portuguese) on March 2000. They were still working on the extension of the airport as they had to implode the Hotel Atlantis. It was quite a scene to see. But he greatest climax was the airplane landing. Those cross-winds are almost always occurring and they are quite fierce.
Thanks for sharing!! ✈✈✈︎
These flightdeck videos are just pure gold! Good job!
Please keep these cockpit videos coming! Great camera quality, good audio, good editing - great watch :)
Really love this kind of videos! If I would have a free wish: Make it like 45-60min in length! Thanks a lot for providing!
Thanks to Lufthansa and Gabriel. Love these unique corners of aviation with all the quirks and thrills they offer.
Great vlog as always my friend. In the old days there was a big hotel when you land on rwy 22 and the rwy was a lot shorter. All dep aircraft had to refuel on the mainland. Looking forward to the next. Be safe!
Fabulous! Loved the capt intro to the navigation and way points and how that all works.
My first, and only jump seat experience was back in the late '80s on board an Ansett 737 from SYD to AYQ, including the landing at AYQ. Amazing experience, skills and the most stunning views of Uluru .....and so my avgeek journey began!
Thanks @GabrielLeigh another great video!
Hi Gabe, I enjoyed the flight; thank you for taking us along.✈
One of the most challenging approaches in the world ✈️✨ Amazing cockpit video
Very enjoyable and interesting flight video.
Wonderful capture of the flight to the beautiful island of Maderia. The final turn onto runway 05 is a treat to experience.
please keep these videos coming they are a godsent, perfect production quality.
Great video! The approach to FNC really is something special and so is the island of Madeira. I highly recommend a visit. Thanks to Gabriel and FR24.
Thank you very much for this marvellous Video and shots which iI have really appreciated and Congrulations for the Crew for this professional Landing.
PF made it look like a walk in the park
Very nice video, Flightradar24! Your content is fresh, and seems to nail the sound score, too. Keep 'em coming!
Very good video, keep up your nice work 🙂
Crushing it with the content lately ! amazing!
Excellent video thank you! We were only there this time last month for our eighth holiday there. We love the island, it's become a bit of a home from home and I might even describe it as our 'happy place'. Our repeated visits aren't just because of *that* approach and spotting opportunities, honest! ;-)
Also, Pedro's Madeira Airport Spotting channel is great!
It’s a fantastic island!
Really good video! Thanks to Garbriel and the Lufthansa Team! And dont forget Plainspotting Madeira :D
aaah, I see may favorite plane spotting place there. Going to Madeira again soon !
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing this superb content with us.
Loving these flightdeck content.
That was a beautiful piece of flying. What a thrill to see this.
I absolutely love the explanations by the captain, amazing video thank you so much
I love you guys! Your app is so worth the subscription and these videos are so entertaining ❤️
❤
I've been sharing ADSB data with FR24 for some 4 years now. The web application and the mobile app are first rate. Those flight videos are outstanding too. Among the best of this kind in youtube.
As for the unbeatable view during the final turn into Funchal - you just gotta see the final turn into RWY 02 to Santos Dumont (SBRJ / SDU) in Rio de Janeiro, just a few meters from the Sugar Loaf mountain.
Might be worth contacting Latam, Azul or Gol for a jumpseat ride in a flight into Rio. It's as breathtaking as it gets.
Good point will definitely add that to the list!!
Amen.
Great video Gabriel! Made me think of New York's Laguardia (KLGA)- the last few hundreds of feet of RWYs 4 and 31 are constructed on piers over the East River. Especially bad place for an overshoot.
Fantastic
BUTTERRRRRRRRR.
Agree! Informative, great explanations from the PIC, and great camera work!
What a superb video! Thanks so much.
Your presentation is highly interesting to watch. Thank you very much and Happy New year. 👍🛫
Great video about landing in Madeira, my sweet island.
Thank you for letting me sit in the cockpit. I enjoyed the time.😎
thank you so much for a wonderful , interesting video, and great views.
Guys, what a content! Thank you! Small request for the next one, pls! The island of Corfu - fantastic approach, magnificent scenery, plenty of places to locate a camera. Tested this theory personally! Cheers!
Sounds great!
Great video, very well made. Really pleasure to watch. Greetings from the UK
Excellent..! Congratulations from Argentina..!!
Thank you very much!
That was awesome! Training for my commercial…hope to do that one day!
Awesome flight and video! Thank you FR24.
Fantastic !
excellent flight by the captain and 1st officer. thank you. I have never been to Madeira, but have been 3 times to Seychelles and the trip in 2024 was by Emirates A380 to DBX then on B777 to Seychelles Island,
Love the flight deck view. Difference between the Airbus and Boeing. For moment I thought the plane was taking off automatically and then I realize they are using a joystick 👍👍👍
"flight stick" ;)
@@jemand8462 thanks for the correction. That makes the flight deck really cool
so cool just earlier today I watched another crew approach and landing to Madeira exactly on this route shown on the chart cool
Great Job, good work!!
Really enjoyed this! Thanks!

You are a Very Very Lucky Young Man!! I Envy You and Many Thanks for doing this!! Best Wishes!!!
Thank you very much!
Great video!
Super Kameraarbeit und Objektivwahl. Die Dynamic Range ist ja der Wahnsinn! Man kann drinnen wie draußen fast gleichhell sehen, wie bekommst du das nur hin? Beste Cockpitvideo was ich bislang gesehen habe.
Top Vídeo 💯 from my Airport
I just love those 320neo's whale sound engine startups 🐋
Very nice landing 😊
Not gonna lie, just found out Flightradar has a YT channel and maaannn…. Great videos 🤙🏻👌🏻🙏🏻
Btw, the FO was stressing out on the climb out 😂😂😂
Úžasné video. Super. Děkuji za možnost shlédnutí. ❤😊
Wow this video make me inspiration a lot. Thanks for showing my future
-by flight instructor in korea
excellent video, thank you
Glad you liked it!
@dutchpilotgirl and now you, have shown landing at Madeira airport so well.. quite interesting and exciting to watch.
Thanks!
I love watching these videos I am starting next year with my flight training but have never been on a plane before 😂😂I also had a dream about a month ago where I sit in a cockpit of a Jet it was a Boeing me and this Captain and he ask first time and laugh it was wet weather but when we about to departure I could not do it because the speed was so fast I felt the plane and its power and then woke up 😂😂It sounds messed up but do you really feel it like that wow my heartbeat was raising so fast in that dream
So much better than b737. It seems to be more comfortable, things are organized and put in the right place.
Thank you Gabriel for that amazing video, that look like that was so much fun and as you said the crew was so inviting and genuine, I wonder what that be the case in the United States with domestic flights and would you be able to do the same thing here? I definitely enjoyed seeing all the sophisticated equipment and the computers and the runway maps, I love looking at those through the live ATC app I have on my phone again thanks for the video it was very interesting
Completely impossible in the US due to FAA rules unfortunately, at least for anyone who isn’t an airline employee! Thanks for watching.
Looks easy 😊
I've only flown with Luftthansa once due to a scheduled flight cancellation out of Munich to SFO. Since I was flying business, I had lots of time to kill in their Munich First Class lounge. Gotta say, it was better than any American flag carrier lounge and I almost wished I had more time to kill. Flight was great, crew was superb and the experience was tops. I only wish I wasn't limited to US planes. Next time I'm on vacation I guess.
THANK YOU 😍😍😍😍😍🤠🤠🤠🤠😎😎😎😎
Alright Gabriel, now you are starting to spoil us with flight deck videos, GREAT! It is fabulous that you are not only getting access but you are going to interesting airports. I might be confused or is this a big surprise video. I believe you showed a “plane spotting” video, not long ago, from the ground at Funchal was this your flight to get there? The information the Capitan gave us was indeed also very interesting, as you have commented about. The qualifications to operate in an out of Funchal are not totally rare though. I can think of an airport in the Himalayas, one known as Lukla.
Anyway you did it AGAIN . THANKS, JIM S.
Thought this was Kelsey for a sec😂😂
13:39 that is Peniche, Portugal.
Watching that didn’t feel like a 20 minute video.
LUFTHANSA
Actually funny the fact that most planes don't even use the runway extention to either land or take off (except the 747 that landed there some good years ago), the remaining B737 or A320/319 we mostly see usually manage to turn into taxiway B without turning around
Did someone mistake the captain for Kelsey 74Gear?.One guy here!
Quite some shakes on departure!
And: Great video! Keep up the great work!
❤❤❤❤
im fortunate enough to have flown into maderia its a very steep turn onto approach
