I use the Transtar as a vehicle transport/service truck. Keep it on the main roads and use its better fuel economy to move more powerful and thirstier trucks to their area of operations. As well as be a mobile refueling/service point for these trucks.
It can do BlackRiver-Factory to Drummond Island-Port really well! It can haul stuff in Wisconsin from garage and on both maps via roads. Very good on Alaska roads too North Port to White Valley. Belozersk it can do most road trips on at least three maps. In Ontario very useful on the paved eastern side of the maps. Can do some parts of Don maps, except for the connector between the maps. Needless to say you have to repair all the bridges and roadblocks first before zipping around in this one :)
This one was intended as challange truck i believe. Since game was challenging enough for me I never use it, so it's awesome to watch this review. Another great video Nathan, keep them coming!
In the real world these trucks are remembered very fondly for being durable and reliable, one guy I saw talked about having 8 of them for his trucking company
Great review Nathan. Of all the trucks I use on this game, this one never fails to impress me. I have driven it through so many areas where it had no business going. Yet, more often than not, it pulls through.
After getting the raised suspension this truck is a beast for what it is. I intensively used it in Michigan and Alaska even for the latest missions like Cargopocalypse.
Poor you, this is worse than fresh cowshit served on plate. I never used a shitier truck than this, plss. THIS IS ONE OF THE WORSE TRUCKS IN GAME !!! 🤢🤢
According to Wikipedia the 1960 Transtar did have diff-lock, so I wonder why the devs didn’t provide this truck with one.🤔. This is exactly why we use mods. That’s too bad because it’s not a bad truck, you can install a crane/sideboard and attach a trailer. It’s small, it can fit through the most dense forest with ease. Awesome review!!! 🤘😬🤘
I started a new game on hard mode. Definitely gonna keep it this time around and give it a chance. For the next truck review, I suggest the mighty Lo4f. 👍
Thanks for yet another review, Nathan! Not gonna lie, I tested this truck when I got it and then kept ignoring it... One thing has been bugging me about one frequently mentioned upside: "It's free". True, you don't need to spend money to get a free truck but once you have it, you could sell it. Keeping a free truck means you forfeit the cash you could get for reselling it which is the same as having spent that money in the first place (opportunity cost). Trucks sell for half on hard mode, which also halves the opportunity cost. So you might say a "free" truck is actually half price when playing on hard.
Isnt that the beauty of a free truck though? You can keep it or sell for full price or even at half price in hardmode. Thats better than having to purchase a vehicle with needed cash especially in hardmode. Regardless, its adding value to your garage in any scenario just by finding it.
so happy I found this channel the week before I'm going to get Snowrunner learn a little and know how highway trucks in Snowrunner are misunderstood and many use them wrong
To be honest I wish I had some type of info similar to this when I first started back in 2020 on release. I was so lost for at least 6 months. Glad I could be of help
I feel like Highway class trucks are geared for pulling power. On a level road (hard dirt or asphalt) they pull fast and hard. Add a little bit of mud to the mix and they bog down, never to move again.
I think you're right, Although they dont have the largest engines, the power all driven to the load bearing axles is advantageous. In Heavy mud, ya they do struggle for sure
Thanks for that superbly detailed showcase man you should do more...um unless you have lol im new to this game so anyhow yeah this truck was yodelling to me sell sell soon as i saw it and knew a few things about it being on that map and my bank loves it👍
Thank you!! I actually have more truck reviews and also other informational videos to help players as well like mudrunnin tips, map guide for the year 1 maps, gearbox guides, twitch streams and other videos as well!
From someone who’s played the game quite a bit, I feel the Transtar is a little underrated. Yes, it’s not a good truck for every scenario, especially in a off-road game like Snowrunner. However, with the right tire, engine, and transmission upgrades, you can tackle a majority of the main tasks in game. When I got this truck in Michigan, I found that with the right upgrades, it handled its own pretty well. Just so long as you’re not taking it through deep water, mud, and snow. Sounds like a majority of the game play, but when you think about it, it’s not really the case. Most of the time, if you’re getting from point A to B, you’ll need to travel through paved roads, dirt roads, or even rough and rocky terrain. This truck can handle that just fine. Especially when your early on in the game and you need a truck with a decent amount of power to haul a lot of freight to a specific destination but don’t have a ton of money. Certainly until you have the money and have progressed through the game to get better suited trucks.
Your Best Friend in Season 8 on Hardmode. If you manage to rescue him at Michigan's second map, and deploy at Glade's first map, fuel eaters Tayga 6336 and K700, wil love an economical highway buddy.
They could have very easily made this into a awd version known as the International Unistar. It had a automatic awd system that would lock the front axle to be powered when the back wheels would lose traction. They came in 4x4, and 6x6 chassis
Ethan, This woulda been an awesome addition to the game. I dont even know how I could suggest that to the devs, but it sounds like a great truck for this game!
They do have a use as light tankers and repair vehicles. Is there better? Of course but depending on your play style this might be worthwhile to use for those roles to keep other vehicles free for other things. I do find it funny that highway trucks aren't even the best to use for highways.
I understand this truck not having a powered front axle available, but it ought to have locking rear diffs as an upgrade. Can't wait to find one to set it up as a support truck.
my favourite truck in the game :) no matters how it suffering off road conditions, it's just real badass! i have vanilla and 2 modded so i usually don't use other trucks in my game p.s and YES!!! it eats fuel really smart way! you can bear whole trip without being refuelled and it just rockin it's 300l approx 265? iirc so yeah underrated rig people should get into it and try to use that one

I think most people don't bother to learn how to drive the RWD trucks or the benefits of using offroad gearbox over highway because you get to repair the AWD Fleetstar literally right at the start of the game. Personally I don't think Michigan should of had any AWD except for maybe the Kodiak, which I would hidden stuck in the bog somewhere in Island Lake, not in Black River. Or even if you kept trucks like the White Western in Smithville, then don't have the AWD get unlocked until Alaska. Michigan Region should of been about teaching players common sense driving, how to navigate without AWD, the importance of using low range and unlocking upgrades. But having the Fleetstar literally right at the starting garage, having the Kodiak found in Black River, andhaving the White Western found in Smithville, it ruins this experience for players. Most players find the Transtar, no AWD, see the GMC has no AWD unless you get the Season 1 DLC, and they just go "Well why do I need any of this when the Fleetstar has AWD" and then just sells them. I bet there is still people out there that sells the Twin-Steer because AWD is DLC locked. The average player simply have no need for the Transtar when the Fleetstar exists to ruin the starting balance of the game. I guess I can see why it's there though. Saber wanted this game to be more accessible to the casual market not just the hardcore SpinTires/MudRunner players, so they gave us a AWD truck in the Fleetstar right at the very start of the game. It's not the Fleetstar fault it's in the position it's in. And I don't even like the Fleetstar, I still own one just for the sake owning one at this point. But it is a powerful truck, upgraes do come easy for it, and if Saber really did want it in Michigan, it should of been in Island Lake or Drummond Island, not one of the very first trucks you get. It really is a shame because the Transtar, Ford CLT9000, and even GMC (without DLC) are better then people think. But players never get to learn this simply because the Fleetstar exists. Sadly, Saber side benched having a learning curve in favour for accessibility. But again from a business side, I also get why Saber did that.
Man I totally agree. You know what would be cool is if they added a different layer to hardmode and have those adjustments you spoke of in that comment.
@@NProvince Yeah that would be pretty neat. If hard more actually offered kinda a new experience and was more then just spending more money (I know there is a little bit more to it that), then I might be tempted to start one. Right now, at least for me, hard mode doesn't offer enough for me to start a new save. But yea I never thought of that, but just by repositioning some vehicles and locking more powerful upgrades until later, that would do a lot for hard mode and actually shake the game up a nice bit.
I agree about the truck balance, and unlocking upgrades later, but not about denying AWD in Michigan. Take the following as constructive criticism of your point. I'll start it off with this: Players don't need RWD only trucks to learn about driving in this game. This is coming from my experience where I've been there and done that with RWD trucks. I've done the "1-star" runs in Spintires/Mudrunner, and probably more extreme driving in than most players will do. I'm not mentioning this to brag, but more to illustrate that most players are not going to enjoy doing this. It's difficult, and often very tedious. It's highly likely that many of them would give up on the game if they had this type of driving forced upon them. Even Nathan in a previous video mentioned he almost gave up on the game because he felt it was too difficult at first (possibly the Paystar video). What I'm getting at is that you need to build a foundation of skills (walk before you run), and trucks like the Fleetstar make that possible for a lot of people new to these games. They are not going to play the game in an extreme way starting out. Even if you go back and look at Spintires and Mudrunner, you have AWD trucks available immediately. Even in those games you have to go out of your way to make the game more difficult for yourself. Not even these games expect you to go all in right away. I've introduced the game to some new players, friends of mine, recently. They have learned a lot about driving from taking AWD scouts on trails. They learn about how diff lock works, how low gears work, and because the game limits you to highway tires at first, they are forced to use these mechanics (even starting with the Fleetstar). They have grown a lot as players and now have a solid foundation. They even use trucks like the GMC and drive my Ford CLT around. I'm glad they made the game more accessible. It means we get more content, get more players, and hopefully additional entries to the series. At least one thing we can probably all agree on: the game balance needs work! I do appreciate your perspective, I would love a sort of "more difficult start" mode I could choose. That might be an interesting way to have the best of both worlds so the game doesn't punish new players. *Edited to fix spacing issue.

@@NProvince And as always a very good review, thank you for your efforts in the content👍
Hey man I hope you can help me but first off
I really enjoy your content sadly you don't throw hand signs anymore ( roll the tape) I did enjoy that
It grew on me
But I'll ask you if you can make a video of how to get started like where to get data and how to reed it like the gearbox data. I'll say that I am not a complete retard but that data can be hard to reed and understand how it translates to game play
I know that you make a ton of videos that are x hours Long but that can be hard to go tru if you (me) is surging for a spisifik information
I ask you because I love the content you make
Stay strong bro 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Check your comment on my 605R review. I answered this question for ya :)
@@NProvince sorry for sending the same massage twice RUclips did me dirty when I tried to send the message 🙏🏻
I use this has a "mobile garage"
It definitely works well as a support truck
I just wish it had awd...
There are mods for AWD. Im not necessarily into mods, but they are out there
Would use it if it wasn’t so ugly. Seriously, roadkill is a prettier sight than that truck.
Thx a lot for this review, this truck need propagation
You're Welcome :) Its a challenge to use, but worth it if you can make it work for you
