Yes..I agree completely...not impressed! This looks like way more work and more materials are necessary. In addition, me & a sharp cutter will eventually mean a visit to the hospital!😅
A valiant review, but I’m afraid I shan’t be adding this product to my tools. The rulers are a good idea as far as it goes, but the price is absurd, and the idea needs more work. ... and I can’t help wondering how soon it will be before My Sweet Petunia starts litigation against anyone else who dares to put up a similar product.
especially since they sued everyone and their mother for coming out with different stamping presses after they came out with theirs (which was not an original idea...)
Her stamp press wasn’t original either, she managed to get a letter press trademarked. She’s not exactly an inventor. She’s just a very unpleasant trademarker.
@@clticspin Well, she does have a patent, so is within her rights to defend it. BUT, when I saw she rudely went after crafters in forums and RUclipsrs when they would post/comment about ways to make a homemade MISTI, I decided she would never see another dollar from me (I already had the Creative Corners and the Cut-Align Tool bought at a deep discount). So I sought the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform from the UK (I'm in the USA) and was happy to pay the high shipping price to keep my money away from this nasty woman. #KindnessWINS
Thank you for the review - at $24 on Amazon, I feel this tool rather expensive for what it is, and what it does. But, to be honest, as it's a Sweet Petunia product, I expected that. I will continue to use the TH guillotine, or TH ruler and knife. Nothing at all against Hedgehog Hollow. Whatever other tools you use to align your cut, you should only use light pressure and use several cuts to cut through the thickness of the paper. This helps to prevent slipping and makes for an easier cutting experience, especially if your grip is not too strong. Also, if you start cutting from inside the paper, rather than off the edge, you reduce the risk of making the paper slip.
I'll stick with Tims' wonderful glass mat and ruler. I am curious why MSP hasn't gone after the Stampin' Up, stamp positioner since it's just like Tim's , or has she? Does MSP really think her ruler with a slice in it is better than my trimmer. Melissa, same here!
According to Scrapbookupdate, MSP has gone after Stamping' Up and they're fighting back. Scrapbookupdate also said Stamping' Up is challenging MSP's patent.
@@pinkpinsofpain I love that SU is challenging her patent. I hope they win...seriously think her Misti is a cheap piece of acrylic that cracks after a few uses. I love the Tim Holtz stamp platform and the Stamparatus is amazing for mass producing and doing fun techniques.
@@pinkpinsofpainThanks for the info. Where have I been. I honestly have heard nothing. Although I don't have many of their products, I would like to see someone have MSP's patent overturned. After that's over, maybe we'll see Tim against Stampin Up. I'm putting my money on Tim. His brain amazes me. Going back to that MSP ruler, there used to be a ruler with the center cut out around1/4" wide and around 8" long and you could put that over the sentiment and use your knife to cut it out, no measuring to it. When my husband and I moved in with my Mother to care for her (alzheimer patient) many of my crafting items were lost. I am 67 years old and I truly don't know when or where I got that great ruler. I have refused to buy any Sweet Petunia products and this too is an overpriced tool that I will not be purchasing. You did an awesome demonstration of the tool, but will she be sued for copying the matting tool already out there? It has been out for as long as I have been scrapbooking and this is just a different take on it. Just like all the other stamping tools are a different take on a stamping tool that she did not create. Sorry for sounding off, because I love what you do, but have no use for Sweet Petunia products.
There are already tools on the market with similar concepts. MSP gonna sue them too? 🤦🏻♀️ Thanks for the review Alex - but if I need to use a ruler to cut (not likely) I’ll use a metal ruler & a craft knife before I purchase anything from MSP.
Thank you for this review. I honestly think this tool is a waste of money. I've watched 3 people demo it now and all 3 had to hold the ruler tightly down so it won't move, which can be a problem for some people who don't have the strength for that. Grips on the bottom would have been a good solution, like you said. Also, not one person has done the cut in one pass. You did great in that you only did 2 passes. To me, that's a waste of time. The trimmers do such a great job, as well as dies for this purpose, that there really is no need for this tool. And, of course, the price is not something I'm willing to pay for a ruler. Once again, thank you for reviewing it for us, you're awesome!
Actually, and please believe I am not defending this product, but if you are using a knife to cut, whatever other tools you use to align your cut, you should only use light pressure and use several cuts to cut through the thickness of the paper. @@Britgirl58 Thank you for your reply. That fact is why it makes this tool so useless. I don't want to have to do 3 passes on each side just to cut a sentiment or a straight line. My trimmer does it quicker. Plus, I won't support her products at all.
I'm a total crafting tool nut and love to watch your reviews. I'm not sure I see the point of this tool since many stamps have dies to match and one can use the Brother Scan and Cut if matching dies are unavailable.

Great review. Thanks for sharing. Overpriced for what you get, IMO, and it easily moves around. A trimmer works better. Don’t like the way MSP does business either. Love the Misti and can’t imagine card making without it, but would use another product if she hadn’t run all other products out of production. Get them before they’re sold out! I just got the travel size one on sale and it’s amazing! (I already had the original size). I could buy two of Tim Holtz platforms for LESS than ONE original sized Misti! Crazy!
I feel like the ruler is too slippery and to much work to find another tool when you probably already have your trimmer out! I love that you are always unbiased in your opinions!
Possibly , I think the anti-slip ideas were good , possibly the clear silicone dots on the back side would be nice ,although it won’t slide when you want it too, also it may grab where you don’t . I also like maybe a thin slice of silicone down the slot to keep it from slipping.
No thanks. I have a 12 inch ruler with a straight cutting edge and a non-slip cork base. I don't lay the ruler over the text etc so I can see how much of a border I have. With the grid lines this just seems to be VERY SIMILAR to the 'Perfect Layering' rulers I have for matting and layering. Also, why not sell them separately? It's a big expense if you're not going to use the larger one.
Hi Hedgehog Hollow, unfortunately I have the Tim Holtz matt and it does not like knife cutting on it. I now have scratches on it and am not a happy chappy. I think it would be a good idea to demonstrate the benefits using the large one for scrapbooking with 12x12 paper, assuming there are benefits. With this price tag showing the small one was a mistake. I have both the large and small TH trimmers and they are great, but for a small cut job like this I grab my cheap mini Recollections trimmer, it’s perfect. Nice tool but maybe a bit unnecessary due to not having a non-slip surface on the bottom. I’m really quite surprised that such an important feature in any sort of “new” paper-cutting tool would be overlooked. Struggling to keep the ruler from slipping would be a turn-off for me.

@@samkavelala3379 she attack tim holtz positional stamp and 1 other one but didnt sue stampin up for some reason. She just flat rude and her price are horrible. Tim holtz stuff is cheaper then her. Prob why she sued and did law suit cuz she was losing money.
In my opinion MSP just seems like a bad company to support. I wish more RUclipsrs brought this up because I sure wouldn't like to support a company with such bad business practices. :-/
S'mone C The DIYer There’s an old scrapbooking forum in which MSP went off on crafters, threatening one who had a product like hers out on the market before hers. But because she got hers patented and he didn’t, she was threatening him and being absolutely vile towards his friends and supporters. She’s attacked customers online who got defective Mistis, where the gridlines weren’t attached or that arrived cracked. She literally went nuts on them, when all they were asking for were exchanges. She’s since deleted and edited a lot of her responses, but if you google it, there are some screenshots online. She’s sued everyone and is just generally an extremely unpleasant person.
Elli B She is also a bully, as evidenced by her behavior on some of the crafting boards when her stamp positioned came out. I know there are many people who are her fans. I’m just not one of them. I’m also not trying to suggest others are wrong if they chose to buy her tools. I simply won’t.
@@melissasilvestre4120 Thank you Melissa. I haven't seen any of the boards, but will keep it in mind if I ever think about purchasing from her. I wouldn't purchase this ruler anyway as I think it would be just a waste of money.
OK...I was thinking that what MSP has here is basically a “slotted ruler” that’s seen more often in the sewing world. I have one for sewing (that I’m not doing much of lately) made by June Tailor called a Shape Cut Plus: It’s not as sturdy as this one but is a big square with slots in it and you use your rotary cutter to slice 1/2 inch strips of fabric...or I guess you could use paper. I’m not suggesting this would be best for card makers & paper crafters,....just noting the idea is not new. The June Tailor one doesn’t come with a non-slip bottom either but you can buy non-slip paper to adhere to almost any rulers you have. Variations of slotted rulers have been around for a long time.
I had a little look for the shape cut plus because I had never heard of it and thought perhaps people were being a little unfair in regard to the cut-align not being an original idea. The problems I see with the cut-align are that it would be far too easy to accidentally cut into the edges of the plastic slot and as it's quite a wide slot it would also be easy to create a wobbly line within it. Those problems don't exist in regard to the shape cut plus as it's designed for cutting fabric with a hand held rotary cutter.
Thank you for your review. I would not use this. But I also refuse to purchase anything from this company because of the law suits she has filed against other crafting vendors. Nope, nada. I'll use my trimmer.
You tried, Alex. This is a useless reproduction of what I already have. And it's also a reproduction of a tool I had as a kid NOT made by MSP. Did she make sure to check all her patents to make sure she had permission?
Cindyellen Robinson Remember this is the person who patented a hinged platform aka the MISTI then sued anyone else who created a similar platform. Fortunately I got the Tim Holtz platforms before they were removed from the market. They are not only far, far better made but way less expensive. The patent office has lost its senses giving patents for very simple not really novel devices. It took her 4 tries but she finally got them to patent it.
Meh. Now. IF this was a scoring ruler, then that might be helpful as I find it very clumsy to have to keep popping out my scoring board just for the one time I would use it during any one card. Mass production would help that but my crazy inspirations don't come in more than one or twos....lol. These 'rulers' would certainly be less crap on my table, but handy off to the side, nonetheless.
Yet another WAY overpriced and in this case unneccessary piece of plastic (do we really need any more plastic in our lives?) that MSP (I assume) yet again claims as original. NO THANKS. I'll stick to a trimmer or scissors just like most others have said, or perhaps the two inexpensive 12" metal ones I already have, that also have 2 different jagged edges on each for paper tearing. Given the VERY shady practices by the very un-Christian owner of MSP (which includes cyber-bullying of people who chose to make their own DIY versions of her already ripped off product), I am so thankful I never gave her any of my money for her products, not that I ever would have as affordability aside her pink monstrosity is just far more money than I would have ever parted with for what the thing does.
it is a shame that the packaging and the instrument are all plastic, nothing to attract me at all as companies really do have to think about their use of plastics
So I’m probably going to get slammed for this, but I don’t understand why everyone is so angry at My Sweet Petunia. They spent a lot of money, time, and effort to create a new product and then spent the additional money to get a patent. Then when other large companies decided to copy their ideas, they defended their patent. Why is that wrong?
It is not wrong for her to defend her work and patent. I don't understand either why everyone is down grading her for protecting all the time, energy, work and money she put into producing a product that makes stamping so much easier. I purchased my Misti when it first came on the market and I think it was well worth the price. This is a tool I use daily, over and over and if I counted up the number of times I use it versus the cost, it would be pennies. I belong to a card crafting group and there are three different stamp positioners represented in our group. I have tried the others at class and still prefer my Misti. For all the naysayers out there, if the Misti had not been invented you would probably still be stamping with your acrylic block because the other companies only came up with their product because they copied the idea from Misti. As for price it is pretty easy to purchase a few dies or bottles of Tim Holtz inks and spend just as much as the cost of Misti. I don't know the woman so have no personal reason to defend her but I truly believe my stamping experience has been enriched by her product. Thank you Misti maker.
Ruth Oie The whole reason people got upset at the patent in the first place is that hers was not the first product. There was another before her. She simply patented it first and marketed it better than he did.
I think MSP should quit while she's ahead. This is nothing new, it's made of plastic which you can easily cut with your scalpel/craft knife, and it's waaaay overpriced. Her MISTI is clumsily built and too much money for what we get. Thankfully I had both sizes of the Tonic/Tim Holtz Stamping Platform before it became unavailable in the U.S. Nothing against Hedgehog Hollow, but I think too many of your viewers have had bad experiences with this seller.
Linda DesGroseilliers Tim Holtz Stamp Platforms are still available in the USA. Scrapbook.com has them on sale. You can buy both sizes of Tim’s platforms for the less money than one Misti AND they are a better product. They are also available on Simon Says Stamp and on Amazon. Think the sale price is best at scrapbook.com, but just prices check first.
Yes, they are still available, but based on the terms of the settlement that I read, they will no longer be available in North or South America once the supply (that was available as of a certain date) is gone. I have both sizes of the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform and yes, it's far superior to the overpriced MISTI.
Linda, you’re right. Every time craft channels use her products, I’m like dude, you know the history there. But other people’s choices of what they use are their own choices. So, I generally say nothing. But if asked about MSP, I’m always happy to explain why people should avoid her.

My T ruler and a craft knife does the job just fine. Ridiculous price for this set! And I don’t like the heavy handed business practices of MSP!
I do like
the rulers
Waste of money.....my trimmer will do the job!
Is that Tim holtz knife retracktable
yes it is
I appreciate the review but even if this tool was the greatest thing since sliced bread I won’t give MWP one thin dime.
Can I ask why? Edit, I did a scroll down and it appears it's something to do with law suits.
Elli B My Sweet Petunia has a patent on the Misti and is enforcing it. Simple as that.
Maria Batastini Yeah, it’s so not that. She’s just a horrible person.
I will not be purchasing anything from this company.
Rebecca Kilgore me too! Not a fan is msp.
Add small sticker magnets on each side to non slip
I just use the marks on any ruler if I'm not cutting with my trimmer. And you have to buy both? Huh-uh.
Are the sides of the slit you cut through lined with steel to prevent cutting into the plastic of the ruler?
No they arent
Thank You! @@HedgehogHollow
Apparently she thinks it's a novel device since she is trying to patent this.
@@CouzCat it's. . .A PLASTIC RULER. WITH A SLOT. pretty sure that ain't new.
Cindyellen Robinson 😂😂👍🏼
Not much use to those of us that use the metric system!
Great review. I use a die or my paper trimmer now.
It sounds like a lot of trouble when a trimmer is a lot easier
Meh. Now. IF this was a scoring ruler, then that might be helpful as I find it very clumsy to have to keep popping out my scoring board just for the one time I would use it during any one card. Mass production would help that but my crazy inspirations don't come in more than one or twos....lol. These 'rulers' would certainly be less crap on my table, but handy off to the side, nonetheless.
agree with Hio Po, won't be buying anything from Sweet Petunia!
Love your videos. I get such great info from you and love your energy
I think for some things this would be nice.
I do not believe it would be valuable to me.
Don't worry about the price y'all aliexpress will have a knock-off any day - lol
Could you do a review on the new stampin up stamp platform
I have one already
I have them and love ‘em. Once you use it a few times it gets easier.
❤️❤️❤️
I love them, and have used the smaller one a lot
it is a shame that the packaging and the instrument are all plastic, nothing to attract me at all as companies really do have to think about their use of plastics
My trimmer or a pair of scissors does the trick. Seems like a waste of additional time using them. I wouldn't buy.
hello 297 like great video thanks see you later

I really am interested in why people are so angry. Can someone please explain what I’m missing?
Ruth Oie The whole reason people got upset at the patent in the first place is that hers was not the first product. There was another before her. She simply patented it first and marketed it better than he did.
Thumbs up
I think MSP should quit while she's ahead.
Useful but not for me.
