So many people mistaken Chinese people and the country as dirty and poor. Wrong, Shanghai is one of the most high tech and beautiful cities i've ever seen.
Why would they do that? China consistently is in the top ten most technologically advanced countries in the world. Sure, it's quite a bit behind South Korea and Japan in technology, but it doesn't mean it sucks.
shanghai was the first metropolitan in Asia in the turn of 20th century, not Seoul or Tokyo...and forget about the rest of Asia then...simply nothing. So don't expect Chinese junk boats and shanty towns...
Yes, there is smog in the most populated cities in China, but you have to take into consideration that China holds the highest population (1.3B people) and also that China is the largest manufacturing output country. Hence, other countries don't manufacture as much anymore because they buy from China. China handles a lot of the world's production...
Also Shanghai has world's 2nd and 5th tallest buildings for people who dig that kinda stuff! Great view from the glass observatory on Oriental Pearl Tower.. I heart Shanghai!! Love from India
one of the best guides i have ever seen. Clean, to the point, high resolution, clear language, handy tips, important locations and most importantly, no bullshit pure professionalism
Shanghai is easily one of my favourite cities on the entire planet. I don't proclaim to know a lot about it, but I've been there enough times to know my ways around. Kudos to this great video!
“Like many great cities in the world shanghai is a near perfect balance between the past and present. But unlike anywhere else in the world in shanghai you can also get a glimpse of the future.” Couldn’t have said it any better myself as someone who grew up and live there for more than 20 years.
Very useful introduction ! I knew Hong Kong in 1993, and just started work in Shanghai's Minhang district a month ago - With May Day holiday, heading into central Shanghai tomorrow for my first tourist experience !
My favourite YT travel videos by a long shot... great to have you back guys! Wow, it's been over 10 years since I visited Shanghai - clearly high time I returned!
You're channel is easily the most comprehensive and best travel Channel RUclips. I appreciate every video you do and I feel im more prepared before I go. Simple tips like the pin code in this video is so valuable. Thanks guys!
This might be the best travel guide I've even seen on RUclips. No shit, no fancy but useless tips that you'll never try to remember, only useful guidance. Keep on, mate!
I lived in Shanghai from 2000 to 2004 and am going back for a week holiday in March with my friend who has never been out of Australasia. I am so looking forward to seeing how Shanghai has grown but I'm so looking forward to showing my friend Shanghai I am sure he will just be mind blown by the place.
I’ve watched this probably 3 or so times now and even though I live here I still find that there’s always something to discover and I’m definitely going to try the food tours
There are people around stations offering bed and breakfast for about 50-100 RMB. They don't care about your passport. Safest city in the world - we left bags on shelves in McDonalds and went around city for about half a day. They were still there.
Yes! More from the best travel group on RUclips. Keep up the great work guys! I've had Shanghai (along with the rest of China) high on my bucket list for a while now, this only affirms the desire to see it for myself.
I sincerely welcome you to Beijing for a trip. If convenient please make it at a warm spring day, with much fresher air than in the winter. This huge city is great for exploring history, northern Chinese food, and it's a mirror of Chinese life in the present and future. I'd like to suggest you experiencing "Modern Chinese payment" through smartphone in Beijing, which is increasingly popular everywhere in China. Though many people complain about Beijing, it does have an unique character. I love it, and I hope you'll love it too.
I watched your last video about Hong Kong and your Quality and Content are on a really high nice level. Now I am in Shanghai and was happy to found your Video as I looked for more infos about Shanghai. Great Video
Enjoyed your video. I lived in Shanghai for over 6 years and know the city and Metro quite well..Nice to see some places that I've seen before. I've been on nearly every Metro line..I used to live in JingAn near city center..
Very accurate information, listen to everything this man says! Lived there for a couple years and it's ever-changing bustling energy feels a another world!💕
I'm a Laowai, living and working as a teacher of English and IT, in Zhuanqiao, Shanghai, for 7 months now - November 2019 - and still only beginning to learn! Great video ! Xie xie !
Absolutely right about the visa and passport - I like staying at the Mercure, in Laoximen, when I'm in central Shanghai for a few days - and they insist on it
Visa debit card will work very well in ICBC ATM machines, and they're everywhere - if you don't have a WeChat scan with a card attached to an account. But actually connecting your Visa Card to WeChat might not work. Union Pay Card is the better option - and it works in Hong Kong too - but they have their own version of online pay options there.
Actually paying with Visa Debit won't always work - except in the major shopping malls, like Wanda Plaza, or on Nanjing Road - where it usually works fine. So it's a good idea to get maybe 1000 kwai (our local word for yuan/ renminbi) cash and keep it on you - approx. equals about 100 sterling on the date I wrote this !
Recommendations - not far from the old Customs House, on the Bund - 5-10 mins walk - The Fellas Restaurant - part of Goodfellas restaurant on the ground floor , the Fellas is a bit further up - 7th floor (I think?) - excellent food, smokers can have the balcony, friendly staff, fantastic view from the terrace bar - specially at sunset, when the laser lights start up ! not too bad a price for where it is (centre of Shanghai's tourist district in sight of the Bund, Oriental Tower, Shanghai tower, etc, is always going to be more !) Xuhui - near Changshu Road metro station, corner of Bao Qing road and Fuxing road - Oscar's Pub - popular expat hangout - live band on Friday night ! Xujiahui - the Park Tavern - also popular with expats, a bit bigger than Oscar's !
Great job! I’ve been living here for 6 years and you gave some great and accurate information. Would loved for you to add where people can check to see the great sights or things to do here. Shanghai has incredible museums and art galleries along with all the tourist sites. Very nice adding Kyle and the food tours!! Looked good! I think I will take one. I’m sure he can show me something new.
123 Iris my friend don't worry about those losers people talk but they don't know shit long live China and the Chinese one of the greatest country on earth i hate when people judge base of what the get from the media but they don't go to China and see for themself China is very rich in food and there's no dogs in theirs dishes
Please do a video on Wuxi, China if you have the chance. It is right next to Shanghai and it's known for its beautiful gardens, cherry blossom and the Taihu Lake. I live in Wuxi and have made some cool vids about it.
My wife is chinese and from a little village in China. I took her to Shanghai for her first time in 2015 and it is expensive and very busy. But i do recommend to go to a bar called Bar Rouge on the Bund the view of Pu dong is amazing. Also go to Shanghai zoo to see the panda's.
I lived in S'hai for 8 years (ret SF 2 yrs. ago) my wife is Shanghainese...love this city, love the food, love the people, love the culture... HATE the weather, HATE the smog. So, there you have it.
Visited all, except last. Not much going on, not worth the travel effort especially in the cold weather. Wuzhen and Suzhou water walk are very similar anyway. Hangzhou West lake area (not the lake itself) is fun to walk around and shop at though..
I'm glad you mentioned Untours in the video. I booked a tour with them, and it was great. The guide was interesting and very knowledgeable, and the food was outstanding. I was able to have an experience in Shanghai on this tour that I never would have found on my own. I highly recommend them to anyone travelling in a city they operate in.
I watched this video while I was stuck in England waiting to get back and it really whetted my appetite for returning I’ve been here almost two and a half years and it’s a place I’ll think of fondly when the time comes for me to leave then I’ll definitely try and visit Also I need to explore more places and do the food tours Awesome video
I totally thought you were going to say *"gets you from the airport to Longyang Road in 7... seconds"* 😂 Another great video guys-I'm always getting inspiration for visiting even more destinations from you guys!
It would be like travelling in a real-life timelapse! And thanks again-if you're in or around Melbourne over the next year, I'll try and catch you for a beer. Otherwise, maybe when I'm back in London!
then its another 50 mins from Longyang road to the city centre..... yeah, great transport, it misses the point of being fast & comfortable, but fuck it
Your videos are awesome, but in the future could you include some of the usual tourist attractions that are worth the average visitor's time? Museums, zoos, anything like that... Hoping for a Geneva travel guide eventually!
We try to leave that stuff to the tour books mainly because they do a lousy job of covering the stuff that we cover. But you're not the first person to ask this so perhaps we need to look into it.
+Attaché yes I found the track it is Nanking Road thanks to Sound Hound and they are amazing, I mean Shanghai Restoration Project :P Sound Hound is amazing too
The Maglev is just magnificent. A return ticket from the city to the airport isn't even expensive. You don't have to take a ride to get anywhere, it's a thrill in itself.
Thanks for the very helpfu video. I love the way you give prices for practical items like food and transportation. The segement with Untour Food Tours was a huge plus.
The Amsterdam video takes me here and you're saying definitely right at the end. You can have a glimpse of future in Shanghai. See if you have chance coming to Shanghai now, and you'll find even more surprises here, like mobile payment, shared bike. Liked your video~~
just started checking you guys out. i love how you cover all points and provide info in a systematic way with a bit of humor. effective and entertaining!
I would love to go back to Shanghai one day! I bet it has changed so much since 23 years ago. I was only 14 then. We came to play football. We played Shanghai fc under 18’s team and drew the game 3:3 and got to watch the first team at the main stadium. Was a great experience. I remember we trained at a rugby teams place. They were called the “hairy crabs”. Would love to go back one day. Had to edit to say we stayed in the pudong area the buildings were amazing.
great guide! what about driving and renting mopeds? can one do it with US license? same question for Tokyo and some other cities you have done before this. thanks
Must try when you're in the Nanjing Rd mall is Yang's Fried Dumplings on Ningbo Rd (less than 20 metres down from Henan Middle Rd on the northern side of the street). The UnTour food tour shown is pretty awesome too. Great to see you back!
Omg this is so incredibly helpful. THANK YOU! I'm about to head to Shanghai next week and feel completely overwhelmed. Thankfully I have a friend from China who is meeting us, but having these tips is extremely helpful as well.
Shanghai is a huge, modernised and high tech city. I think it is ahead of many cities in North America. But you can only admire the sky scrappers for so long. I prefer Beijing and Guilin as there are a lot more cultures and landscapes. Yes, even with the Beijing smog that symbolises China in our media.
What an amazing virtual experience! Even tho details were just showed on a tiny screen but I absolutely can conceive the feeling I would be there. Also, I do enjoy some your jokes btw :D
Funny! I was in Xi'an last Easter and met Kyle on the food tour there and got friendly with him. Nice to see he's still maintaining the top quality of the one in Shanghai!

I just saw my last post here, lol ! Yes, it's a pretty fast learning curve here - but it's definitely worth it !

Shanghai is a great city! Adore it!
I have lived in Shanghai for one year.
And I am from Germany and i live in Germany again and I can really say that i love this city😍😍😍😍
Pro tip: the best thing about visiting Shanghai is heading to Wuzhen, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Zhouzhuang for a couple days
Please dont consider Hangzhou, Suzhou as part of Shanghai....
Wen Zhou is too far!
Visited all, except last. Not much going on, not worth the travel effort especially in the cold weather. Wuzhen and Suzhou water walk are very similar anyway. Hangzhou West lake area (not the lake itself) is fun to walk around and shop at though..
Great video! Very useful information, so far the best about Shanghai I have ever seen.
I love these videos, keep up the good work!
Thanks so much!

The Amsterdam video takes me here and you're saying definitely right at the end. You can have a glimpse of future in Shanghai. See if you have chance coming to Shanghai now, and you'll find even more surprises here, like mobile payment, shared bike. Liked your video~~
i just found you today and have been binge watching all day. your videos are fun and informative. thank you
Thanks Diana!
just started checking you guys out. i love how you cover all points and provide info in a systematic way with a bit of humor. effective and entertaining!
Do one for Scotland... GLASGOW OR EDINBURGH
GREAT idea.
Edinburgh
I haven't seen much of Scotland that would be cool
I would love to go back to Shanghai one day!
I bet it has changed so much since 23 years ago. I was only 14 then.
We came to play football. We played Shanghai fc under 18’s team and drew the game 3:3 and got to watch the first team at the main stadium. Was a great experience. I remember we trained at a rugby teams place. They were called the “hairy crabs”.
Would love to go back one day. Had to edit to say we stayed in the pudong area the buildings were amazing.
great guide!
what about driving and renting mopeds? can one do it with US license? same question for Tokyo and some other cities you have done before this. thanks
Great question. The E-bikes don't need a license but are hard to rent, almost impossible when compared to places like Vietnam and Thailand.
+Attaché thank you. since everyone is chiming in with ideas for cities, I'd love to hear about Ulaanbaatar and Lahore
Must try when you're in the Nanjing Rd mall is Yang's Fried Dumplings on Ningbo Rd (less than 20 metres down from Henan Middle Rd on the northern side of the street). The UnTour food tour shown is pretty awesome too.
Great to see you back!
We absolutely did that! Many...many times.
So glad I came across your channel! Great info, quality video! Thanks!

Omg this is so incredibly helpful. THANK YOU! I'm about to head to Shanghai next week and feel completely overwhelmed. Thankfully I have a friend from China who is meeting us, but having these tips is extremely helpful as well.

I went to China because of this Video! It was everything you portray it to be and more. Thank you (from Israel)
It will be my first there soon I can’t wait to go
Jose Rodriguez you will love it!! Great city. Great people
Thanks a lot for your channel 😊👍👍👍
Shanghai is a huge, modernised and high tech city. I think it is ahead of many cities in North America. But you can only admire the sky scrappers for so long. I prefer Beijing and Guilin as there are a lot more cultures and landscapes. Yes, even with the Beijing smog that symbolises China in our media.
I definitely want to explore more of China.
I would add Xi'an to that list as well, talk about history!
Johnny Mars it's not ahead of New York.
Abraham Lincoln
Oh... you clearly haven’t been to ShangHai before...
@@abrahamlincoln7912 pathetic no global perspective west people, come China and take a look and realise how ignorant you all are haha
What an amazing virtual experience! Even tho details were just showed on a tiny screen but I absolutely can conceive the feeling I would be there. Also, I do enjoy some your jokes btw :D
COME TO CANADA!!!!! Toronto or Vancouver! :)
I think Canada is the most requested place for us to cover - I'm definitely down!
@@attachetravel did you do it? What did it cost you?
Funny! I was in Xi'an last Easter and met Kyle on the food tour there and got friendly with him. Nice to see he's still maintaining the top quality of the one in Shanghai!
