    I play the 6.0 t1100 shaft and it's amazing. I'm just under the x flex speed and this is the only (true) stiff + shaft I've come across. I liked it so much I play the 75gm in 3wood. Good demo of how shaft profile changes flight.

    When I was fitted by the Titleist Fitter we mucked around with shafts for a bit, he put me in the Smoke and I did quite well. He then said "I'm gonna try something, I wont tell you anything but just try this. Fujikura Tour Spec 74 Stiff was what he gave me. First swing and the fitter went "whoa", and II haven't seen a perfect flight with my driver since my Ping G10 died two years ago. Everybody - Get fitted by a trusted fitter you will not regret it.

    @wallstreetoneil 5 лет назад +5

    Michael, I tried and hit all these shafts at a fitting last week and had the exact same observations - exactly
    Shafts
    - Kurokage - very consistent - wish you could get in in X - a nice consistent draw
    - Tensei - very inconsistent - garbage - block fades and then hooks
    - Smoke -felt like a stiffer & heavier version of the Kurokage - reasonably consistent (even better in X)
    - Evenflow - extremely consistent repeatable flight (not as long for me but it was close - added weight has ballspeed down 1-2 mph)
    My choice was the Smoke in a 6.5 X flex at 45.5" - I currently use a Hzdus Black 6.5X at 44.75" on a 2016 M2 so this gives me a few more yards with the longer shaft.
    Finally, it was very interesting watching your ball flights as mine were again similar spins and shapes (the occasional overdraw being a recognizable trait of this driver I believe). For me, this driver seems to sit the tiniest bit closed and as such, I found the driver better in the open shaft setting on the more flexible tip shafts. I also found that for me I got the spin numbers to drop down into the 2200 range by dropping the 9.5 head down to 8.75 - so the shaft setting was C1 for the Kurokage, Tensei and Smoke and D1 for the Evenflow.
    I personally think something is wrong with that Tensei design - just too erratic.

    • @1b0o0
      @1b0o0 5 лет назад +2

      Paul O'Neil saying that a shaft is inconsistent is pure nonsense. A shaft fits your swing or it doesn’t. It seems you are between the Kuro Kage and the Evenflow. Which is great, but don’t be blaming your equipment for your inconsistencies.

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 5 лет назад

      Really? Are you a shaft expert? Have you hit this shaft? How many times have you hit this shaft? Did you know this is a new Tensei Shaft not the regular Blue but a Blue with SFT - something Titleist came up with? The shaft is garbage

    • @1b0o0
      @1b0o0 5 лет назад

      Paul O'Neil I’m no shaft expert but if you are hitting it all over the place the shaft simply doesn’t match your body build and swing speed.
      Bend profile, tip stiffness, etc... play a major role in how you present the club face to the ball.
      It seems you are demanding an X so I assume you have high swing speed. Of course a 50 gram S shaft is not going to suit you. Because if you hook one due to having a higher swing speed than recommended for that shaft, you are going to stall on the next shot and probably block it or slice it.
      Then again, give that 50 grams S shaft to a 90Mph driver swing speed player and it will most definitely fit them.The shaft would be consistent for them.
      A shaft is inconsistent only if it’s badly built, if not, it’s on the player (again, don’t take it the wrong way, it’s just not a shaft for you).
      Fairways and birdies.

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 5 лет назад

      Have you hit the shaft? No is clearly the answer. Like Michael, I was able to consistently, very consistently in fact, hit the lightest shaft, the Kurokage. Just like Michael - it was easy to hit even though it is only 50 grams - this actually really surprised me and I could easily play that shaft. I was also able to hit the Smoke at 60 grams and the Evenflow at 65 Grams - all the same but different. That was not the case with the Tensei - it was all over the place. This was very surprising to me. I even went to the fitting cart, grabbed a Taylormade M4 Head with 'their' Tensei S shaft (not the Titleist branded Tensei SFT shaft) and it was different the way it unloaded into the ball - not perfect but better. I'm near a scratch golfer and I know what I'm doing. Yes not every shaft fits everyone - but that Tensei on that driver doesn't work - it creates a knife edge setup - one of the reasons being, in my opinion, is that these new Titleist heads sit ever so slightly the tiniest tiniest bit closed - and that Tensei SFT (Straight Flight Technology) shaft weights the shaft in a way that it promotes through weighting a more aggressive closing of the head - a knife edge setup. Go try it - it's terrible

    • @1b0o0
      @1b0o0 5 лет назад

      Paul O'Neil I hit over 20 driver shafts in my last fitting. Not the exact Kuro Kage but definitely better versions of stock shafts (I ended with a Matrix Ozik Black Tie MFS5 70X). I hit some lighter shafts well because they had a very hard tip that reduced the closure rate but I could not feel them at the top so I went for a heavier shaft.
      Again, a lot of factors come into play for determining if a shaft suits you. And definitely, we are the greatest, most unpredictable variable.
      Stock shafts are shit, end of story. And you might have come across a badly built shaft (did you try another one of the same model?).

    Great series and good information on shafts. I've picked up golf again after a couple of years (was playing off hcp 10,8) and have taken a more ground up approach to learning to swing properly again (with practical exercises off the course at home to improve on posture, flexibility and especially rotation). I am playing Mizuno MP-30s (extremely soft forged irons) and Cleveland wedges (52, 56, 60), however for driver I'm playing a 10,5 degree Cleveland XL 270 launcher with a 39 gram regular flex 46,25" shaft. I find the driver a bit hard to control but am capable of hitting good 300 yards .. not sure about swing speed, but with 300 yard drives, a regular shaft appears to be quite soft.
    Your review made me realize I'm playing with a ludicrous lightweight shaft at 39 grams and I've never been fitted for drivers/woods (only irons and wedges, which made a big difference), but I kind of like the lightweight shaft. Mishits on the driver are either strong fades or pulls left (never hooks). I'm not blaming the gear usually, but I find the shaft quite soft since I've picked up playing .. and I'm honest enough to state, that I'm not sure it's the gear, but I would like to have this verified as these thoughts about gear tend to creep into my head.
    I was supposed to go for a Titleist fitting session (demo day) next thursday but unfortunately crashed hard on mtb in the woods and bent a few ribs (i.e. benched for the next couple of weeks at least). I'll attend the demo day anyway and try to get an initial feeling of different shafts.
    The good thing about being forcefully benched is that I can spend all practice time on putting (check ruclips.net/video/UPbIdb2C_lc/видео.html).

    • @booger65man
      @booger65man 5 лет назад

      You are very long off the tee(Comparable to PGA players(Rory and DJ length)). It would be helpful to know if that is 300 yards into the woods(are you under control?) or does it stay on the short stuff(i.e. fairway)? That sort of length along with the extremely soft and forged irons(Mizzys) you play suggests you might have a shot at the tour down the road(With more practice(luck) of course).
      What sort of tires(brand and tread pattern) do you run on your MTB? Can you share details about your crash(why did you go ass over tea kettle?)(was it painful?) and what may have led to you failing to stay rubber down and being forcefully benched(does this mean you are now sitting)?
      (How are the bent(does this mean broken?) ribs?)

    I honestly wonder about the merits of fitting. The main proponents seem to be the fitters themselves. Given that the quality and consistency of strike seems to be by far the biggest influence on performance, what’s the point in paying an up charge for a custom shaft? Looking at the results from your test, my main conclusion is that you’d play very good golf even without an optimal fitting. Fundamentally that’s because of your excellent ability? It would be interesting to see if your scores would change very much playing 10 rounds with one shaft and then 10 with another.

      You're clearly into your golf so you may have already seen it, but TXG's wedge fitting for a high handicap golfer is probably one of the best arguments for fitting. Granted, it's a wedge video not a driver, but to sum it up the gentleman getting fit has carry dispersion front-to-back go from something like 20 yards to just over 5 yards. And tightened up in side to side from a small lie-angle adjustment.
      Yes as a fitter I'm going to tout its use, but anyone with some sort of repeating swing will immediately have something that can be done to equipment to help

    • @danmcarthur8077
      @danmcarthur8077 5 лет назад +1

      Dispersion is everything. If you can tighten dispersion through a shaft and head fitting it can be huge especially when you consider it through the bag.
      That said most high end manufacturers have a decent array of shafts that aren’t an up charge and unless you swing really fast or really slow you’ll likely find a fit.

I add 4 grams extra head weight to increase head static weight to at least 205 grams. You know the Fujikura pro spec shafts are great. You just installed Evolution in your gamer PING. The shafts are not real deal, the shaft companies will tell you that they subcontract for mass production in China. You have to order upgrade to be satisfied.

    It’s a shame you couldn’t test the shafts all at the same weight. I tested the Tensei blue in 65g stiff and found it to be a very fade biased shaft (exactly what I’m looking for in a shaft as I have a big issue with the lefts). Goes to show how different we all are.
    I would say the biggest issue with getting fit is for the most part you can only really get fit to what the fitting centre has in store. Possibly the reason why there are so many poorly fitted golfers out there.

    Very interesting. When I got fit for my clubs just under 18 months ago, whilst we did go through some shafts I never really had the explanation of the differences. I am Mr Average: average swing speed, regular lie, regular flex, regular grip size. I have graphite shafts in both woods and irons & not unsurprisingly shafts are pretty stock, mid weight (65g) for both woods and irons.
    Last week I borrowed a 919 Forged from the club shop which was in a 95g steel shaft - the thing felt incredibly heavy and I doubted my ability to hit it well or long. I was completely wrong, it gave a very straight ball flight with distances about what I expected. Although I do think I lost a lot of feel from the club head with such a, for me, heavy shaft.
    It just shows that when going for a club fitting you need much more time with shafts (and ditch your preconceptions at the fitters door) than most club fitters can manage

  • @jonm2522
    @jonm2522 4 года назад

    Problem is that there are so many shafts to choose from, and sometimes the fitter or seller is trying to get you into the one that gives them the better cut/marjin. The fitting also cost a small fortune and the money doesnt come of a purchase of the driver.

    I went to demo the TS2 and expected the Tensei to be the best option for me but the Kuro Kage outperformed it by a country mile. The Tensei would probably work well for someone with a big slice. Didn’t even attempt to try the others bc I’m already too low launch and too low spin as is and the Kuro Kage got me around 13* launch and 2400-2500 spin which is decent for my 95-98mph speed

    Need to be looking at launch angle and loft when fitting a shaft. The smoke with a slightly lower loft and forward CG could have been the ticket. People automatically go to shaft and that is really not the bigger factor here. I normally play a 9.5 driver with a low launching shaft, but ended up fitted in the smoke mid launching shaft with a 9.0 head with forward CG. Need to tweak everything and not focus on just the shaft, which is more about feel and weight than adjusting ball flight, it should compliment the head configuration. The shaft is not "suiting the better player" it is there to match up with the launch characteristic of the head configuration needed by that player.
