I want an action figure of it.
It's probably a good thing that Data Design didn't make a Sonic game.
that's just what the sonic fans need. another game that will live on in infamy and will have videos made about it ad infinitum.
@@amateurprogrammer25 well this dating was before the BS age of DDI
it wouldve been ninjabreadman with a sonic skin
it would just be Ninjabreadman but with sonic
@@TheRamblemanWhoSings exactly lmao
I can’t wait for fans to put DDI Sonic in Adventure, Robo Blast 2, and Generations
As is tradition
Yes
Do it!!
Yes
Then what next? DDI Sonic in Enter the Gungeon?
@@nikostormkilla How about DDI Sonic playing baseball in that weird McDonalds commercial
More information is being sent my way about this...
May end up doing a follow up vid if there's enough of a demand.
I’d watch it
I would recommend sharing this video to SSMB or Sonic Retro
I would love that😍
Do it, do it!
Keep us updated
"Obscure Video Game History You Don't Care About"
And I took that personally!
Lol my video on Die Hard Trilogy made me say that! XD
This model does kinda look like it might have been using Richard Elson's Sonic the Comic artwork as reference.
Quite neat how all this lost media is being discovered lately
It's not even a bad design. It looks like a different world where sonic adventure never happened and sonic retained his classic appearance
Or if Sonic SATAM had a 3D game.
This seems like the Sonic Adventure Design in that universe
Very true
Yeah, it's like a different evolution line where Sonic doesn't just get taller and stretch his spines longer, but he also gets stockier and splays his spines out a bit more.
Plus high little ears to go with AoStH's tiny-eared brown Tails, LOL
I wish that happened sonic adventure sucks
That sonic model looks like it would be in that one cancelled sonic movie
Sonic wonder of the worlds I think?
Fun fact about that 3D Zool game, it is theorized that game became Ninjabread Man, Anubus 2, and the rest of the infamous DDI copy/paste Wii platformers, this is due to a cutscene that leaked of the unfinished game showing a world of sweets with designs that lined up with Ninjabread Man's level geometry
It was confirmed this week via some screenshots that were released from it:
twitter.com/ObscureGamers/status/1336996584324677637
That design kinda reminded me of one of the STC designs of Sonic before you revealed that it was from an email for Fleetway!
As infamous as DDI is, their version of Sonic is pretty awesome!
I had to reread that title to make sure we're thinking about the same DDI.
"How many of you have heard of a company called Data Design Interactive?"
From watching plenty of Vinesauce shovelware streams
Oh no... it's Data design.
_Cue Shane from Rerez losing his mind in the distance_
It kind of looks like Sonic but if a completely different, maybe foreign, company came up with the original design. Like a cereal mascot or something. I feel like it really shows how important art style can be.
A model this accurate to sonic is something I never thought I'd see from Data design
I'm 99% sure that Casper is from "Casper and the Ghostly trio" released in Europe by Blast, they used to publish those bad low budget games just like Phoenix Games and Midas Interactive from unknown developers, often they were reskins of other their games but with just a different graphics, which was Data Design's "style".
I'm pretty sure then that Casper project became to be Casper and the Ghostly Trio or Casper's Scare School (which are mostly the same game with different levels, just saying)
Also, that Wallace and Gromit Karting game probably was just another reskin of their PS2 licensed racing games, there are plenty of them.
Fun fact: DDI has actually made a (pretty good) Lego game which also had a Lego theme, Rock raiders
The design was probably based on the DIC cartoons which never had the gold buckles on the shows
I've been a Sonic fan since 1991, and thought I knew everything about Sonic until I came across your channel. Once again, you continue to blow my mind with your Sonic knowledge.
oh, hey, they found assets of the Zuul prototype that eventually became Ninjabread man. neat.
I think I still like this weird Sonic model because despite, as you said, looking like a clayish early 3D model, it still looks like Sonic. It's accurate to Sonic's design, just in a weird style. It's oddly charming and... cute, dare I say. Not bad coming from DDI of all people.
I saw this on Twitter a day ago! Glad to see this noticed.
I actually LOVE the claymation/stop-motion look of the model; what a great find :)
So do I; is anyone trying to recreate a functioning character model in a game engine yet? I could see a fan game with this Sonic...
tbh I kinda like it, just move the pupils closer together so he doesn't look too badly stray eyed...
didnt fully read the title so hearing Data Design and seeing the logo felt like a kick in the shins
I'm speechless, but Lost media in other words is a complicated topic in its self
It gives me those Sonic The Comic and Sonic Generations Classic Sonic model vibes and what makes it funny is the fact that the model's legs are posed in a part way split while the arms are stuck in a T-pose type position and I bet if Sonic: Wonder Of The Worlds did come out, I imagine this would be Sonic's appearance in the film, and I need a plush based off of this design.
Man, dude. I just really love your channel for things like this. Like, who else would I learn nearly everything about Sonic.
While it is interesting, everything else around it piques my interest a lot. We've know for a while Ninjabread Man
was pitched as a 3D Zool game, but seeing even just a still of before the change is kind of amazing.
DDI's games aren't, nor were they ever good. But it's still history, and even the bad bits deserve to be preserved
Reminds me of the Sonic 3D: Flickies Island box art
But damn this is interesting, I hope we find a raw model
I don’t know how to feel about this design… something about the head is off.
Imagine making a video about ddi in the 90's without mentioning their arguably most important game, lego rock raiders
The sonic design being for fleetway makes total sense considering they also worked on a few books for lego in the uk, including a rock raiders book
I always get a boost of excitement when Badnik uploads.
This model for some odd reason reminds me of the now defunct fan game Sonic GL, has this "charm" that reminds me of that time where fans always tried to do a 3D sonic fan game and sonic always had this drastic designs because people couldnt do Sonic in 3D very well and there was a lack of 3D sonic models ripped from the games, nowdays you can just search for it on 3D model resource and have a better sonic looking character than making it from scratch.
Off Topic: The Casper game you mentioned did actually came out but only in Europe on the PS2 and yeah, it was the same crappy game as Ninjabread Man, Rock n Roll Adventures, Trixie in Toyland, and Anubis II. It does still boggle my mind though that we would finally get to see the original version of all of those recycled game when it was going to be a Zool game.
It looks like if Sonic Xtreme Sonic and Sonic SATAM had a baby and this is the result of it.
Data Design Interactive was going to make a Sonic for Fleetway Comics to follow the Sonic 3D Blast game.
Just noticed one of these pictures look similar to the sega 60th anniversary sonic wallpaper
it looks like a mascot suit made into a 3d model.
also the 3d zool was speculated on before, specifically that it's prototype became the basis of their 6 reskinned wii 3d platformers.
The big socks look is so fun. I can't hate this funky little man
Man, so much lost or obscured sonic content coming out in 2020. Whether it's footage, prototypes or even unreleased, full music!
It's awesome to hear news like this, great work @Badnik Mechanic !
Makes me think of Sonic R
That playdoh look for Sonic is very nostalgic. Reminds me of Neverhood

"OKAY"
And no dislikes
And guess what, It Looks Badass Good As An model from the 90s and from An Limited Cheap Company, A merger between classic genesis Sonic and Satam sonic.
That 3D model is literally as old as me!
RUclips thinks this video is about Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island. I can't blame them.
What's the music from the second part of the video? The one that isn't Underground zone?
Also, great video!
The music is from Space Harrier!
"Oh no, it's Data Design.....
DATA DESIGN!!!
UHG, NO!! ADVERT YOUR EYES..."

My first thought is that It may have been created to use for a cover and it just never ended up happening.
Data Design Interactive? As in Ninja Breadman Data Design Interactive?
Yes.
This sounds neat already
I guess you could call it a irony, when Sega hired Data Design (or rather their D3 Technologies successor) to do that Sega Mega Drive Classics hub for PC and eventually for the consoles.
Imagine if Sega would stoop so low to hired DDI to make a new Sonic game instead of Sonic Team...
Which evil is lesser?
Senik the Hoogeheg is the first thing I said looking at the image. xD
Saw soon as i saw the thumb nail. I knew it would be something to do with sonic the comic, I mean whole of 3D Sonic's design seems to be Heavily inspired by Richard Elson's art work.
It looks like the Fleetway Sonic design.
Well, i watched the video, and now makes sense.
This model is actually based off of the Sonic 3 sprite
BRUH IMAGINE A NINJABREADMAN SONIC GAME OH FUCK
Also, that 3d zool game is already released under new skin, you know who it is, Ninja breadman!
Well that is ciertanly an interesting discovery, i hope the 3D model file of this design gets discovered. Who knows what we could do with it lol.
I love how RUclips thinks this is related to Sonic 3D Blast
.
Oh no not the people who made Ninjabread Man
So...what is Data Design’s new name, and where did you get that picture of where they mention that they planned to make Switch games...
I'd love to see the alternate timeline where DDI's Zool and Sonic games actually got released.
That Wallace and gromit kart racer looks really bizarre but I really want to play it
Did you know that there are 2 really good and impressive Wallace & Gromit games for PS2? The first is Wallace & Gromit In Project Zoo, a 3D Platformer / collectathon similar to Banjo-Kazooie and it’s really fun and has great music, notably the Mine theme and Boss Battle Theme. Curse Of The Were Rabbit is the second one, and it’s a 3D open-world game similar to Super Mario 64, where you stop bunnies from destroying veg and crops at day and fight really quite disturbing Were-Creatures at night. You seriously have to try them out, they are very fun. I’m not sure, however, how good the racing game would have been...
Model reminds me a lot of the Dic cartoon Sonic designs.
Even the Sonic 3 model was more on model...
i think the model was made to fit STC's style
I Was Like OMG ITS THE STUDIO THAT MADE NINJABREAD MAN AND ACTION GIRLZ RACING! I was Literally
S C R E A M I N G I N T E R N A L L Y
Well that's something I've never expected to hear
The yellow buckles you say were missing aren't part of Sonic's design at the point in time that was made, they were added when Sonic Adventure redesigned Sonic for 3D.
Ok I've got 2 things, firstly classic sonic doesnt have the yellow buckle of his shoes, you would know this since sonic mania has come out and all the other classic sonic games, I think sonic mania is a good way to say 'sonic doesnt have a yellow buckle' because in most of the episodes he shows his shoes and stuff like that. secondly how do you find all of these crazy pictures and info?
I would say Classic Sonic's official _design_ always had the buckles, but it may not have fit into his gameplay sprite, and Western artists were always referencing either the sprites or a few pieces of stock art where his feet were turned outward, so they never knew about the buckles, the same way they didn't know the deal with Dr. Eggman's cape.
People are gonna be modding Adventure 1 and 2, Generations and Lost World to have DDI Sonic playable!
the 3d models reminds me of action figures paper back art for the figures
3D sonic's mouth is WAAAY too much to the left, and it doesn't look right.
My theory is that this model might be an early development model for Sonic Adventure. But since this video is a Classic Sonic model Sega probably changed it early on to the model used for the Dreamcast release of the game. Just my opinion
ik things can be tough righjt now but i hope you and you're family are doing good. have a good day or night badnuik!
Thank God we got Sonic 06 instead of a Data Design Sonic game.
The head being too small, and the ears being in the wrong position are driving me crazy, but it's still a pretty good model
I like how sonics body looks but not his head
Oh wait,I know these guys! DDI are bogus tbh.
So its Fleetway that commissioned this weird 3D Sonic? Interesting.
when i saw the model i kind of thought of Sonic Xtreme
I mean make the fingers more round and in my opinion it's good but I mean if they made an action figure of it
I would care less about the fingers this would be cool
Ah yes, chunky looking Sonic
My favorite design
I won’t lie when I say even for a 3D model meant for a magazine from ‘98, it looks kinda mediocre by that time’s standards.
That Sonic actually looks good!
It's a little bit odd/goofy, but I would've mega appreciated it as a kid.
Would've been cool shit, like the EU 3D Blast cover.
The model really reminds me of the Mario SGI renders, but with Sonic instead
They're both just as ugly, lol
Will we ever see elements from the Shiny Entertainment, Real-time Associates, and Lab Zero Games attempts at the series?
Scott the Woz is sighing in relief right now.
I really wish it was in the comic and the second it comes out I will buy it
i'd say they need to get those games up and working as much as possible. And probably release them for DC or PC
Anyone know what the music from the last half of this episode is from? It's not in the description and I have no idea where I've heard it before
Space Harrier.
@@BadnikMechanic Thanks!
:)
Who else came here after watching Rerez's video on DDI?
What's the music in the background starting around 2:40?
Space Harrier Theme
The model looks interesting, unique style
I was just happy to hear an AT4W joke
He's a magnificent Bs***ard I read his book!
Very weird design, his back doesn’t have the correct spines. However he’s not missing buckles on his shoes (as mentioned in the vid) because that’s how the classic shoes were: only red and white.
Sounds weird, but it feels like this model was inspired by Batman's design in The Dark Knight Returns. Maybe it's the broad shoulders.
looks like the sonic the comic design, I like the comic so... I like the design too
(edit:) oh, so the design was for sonic the comic, what a coincidence :)
