Hello, I'm from Brazil and I would like to share some information about this show. - Gugu liberato unfortunately died at the beginning of the year in a domestic accident :( - The futuristic theme was based on the concept that the participants were inside a video game - The participants formed two pairs and the winning pair won a Sega Genesis, which in Brazil was called Mega Drive - Play Game was aired during the Silvio Santos Show, which was presented by the owner of the SBT channel - TecToy also had a great partnership with some game magazines, I remember that in some of them sonic appeared with eggman and the writers answering questions about the universe of sega. - Brazilian Eggman appeared in several other shows as a poster boy for the Play Game, as well as in magazines. - A childhood friend of mine was once part of the Play game audience, at a time when he had not yet been shown, and no one believed him when he said that Robotinik appeared and said the amount of points that the children had made XD . If I wrote something wrong, forgive me, I'm still learning English ;)
Brazilian here, I was born way after this show was broadcasted, and honestly, I had never heard of it before this video got recommended to me. Very interesting stuff! Also, I feel like it's worth mentioning that Gugu Liberato passed away last year in an accident at his own home. Even thought he did usually go for a formal look in other TV shows, like you mentioned, he also always appeared energetic and caring in his way of hosting the programs, I sure have good memories of watching him on TV.
I remember I was once having a conversation with some guys from America about the cartoons I watched as a kid here in Brazil, and at some point I mentioned SBT, and my brain kind of glitched for a moment, because it felt super weird for me to type "SBT" in the middle of an English text.
Video will go live Friday 12th at 8PM (UK time), RUclipss scheduler is currently broken and is displaying the wrong times, click 'set reminder so you'll get a notification when the video goes live.

Brazilian here. Gugu Liberato, the show's host, had a very youthful and playful personality, he solidified his carrer as "people's person" host, being the host for many other talk and game shows aimed to lower classes in the same TV network. At the 90's Gugu was at the peak of his carrer, not only as a TV host, but as a brand. Gugu had many lines of toys with his name for kids from the 90's up to early 2000's. It was only natural they would call Gugu to be the host for Play Game, in fact, for many viewers this was the only reason to tune in and watch this show. His "serious" tone only started after he left SBT and went to TV Record years later.
I'm from Brazil and I have never even heard of this before, this is honestly amazing! On the topic of the video, Gugu Liberato sadly passed away not so long ago, he was a very important person here in Brazil and it was really touching for everyone in the country when it happened.
Hello a Brazilian here to say about the name "play game" it is very simple because learning English at that time was difficult and that simple name already sounded really cool
I loved the interaction that this video provided between the Brazilian and American Sonic fan community. It is so cool to see people from our country appearing in the comments section of this video and talking to other people in the community or passing on more information about the show. I would like this type of interaction to be more frequent. also awesome vídeo, guy, you did a great job! :D
What a great video, i commend you, unfortunately i was too young to watch this show, i was born in 93, however i know i would lap it up as i would watch any show on TV back in the day that talked about video games when the internet was in its infancy. If i got to watch this show as a kid i bet i would have a lot nostalgia for it and It's really weird to see a "gringo" talking about a show from my country i didn't even know existed. I'm glad you made this video though
1:10 Giochi Preziosi wasn't the company behind Bim Bum Bam but they bought countless ad spots on the prgramme. They're a huge toy distributor here in italy
I am from Brazil and I was born after the 90s, I only knew about the Blue screen-game part and I have to say, I am surprised to hear that the show had its own game! Tbh you would kinda expect that from Tectoy, they would do a bunch of games from the ground up (such as As Férias Frustradas do Pica Pau, not very good btw) and officially licensed rom hacks of games such as Wonder Boy for famous tv shows and comics here in Brazil. They also did a lot of rom hacks for the tv shows El Chavo del Ocho and Chapolin Colorado, which are both 'proprieties' of SBT (the channel has the license to broadcast it here in Brazil and the rights to make merch). Thank you very much for making such an amazing video on this topic!
I imagine that the tapes with this are still on SBT's archive. Don't really recall if they were one of the channels that just had that burn up or something and I imagine that if someone was to contact the channel, they might be down with helping out.
RIP Gugu Liberato Im from Brazil and i never saw this show on my life, and i think my familliar never saw it too.. but years ago, in other channel called Globo, they created a TV Show called Video Game, i dont remember if they really play videogames or just.. answer some questions and.. yeah, also you made a great video, and now i want the brazilian voice of Eggman in sonic cartoons to dub that robot voice :")
I know this is little offtopic but just a little remark, Bim Bum Bam was actually just a cartoon programming block aimed at children that were coming home from school, those hosts you see including the weird pink rabbit are actually the hosts of the whole variety-tv segment of that block that aired inbetween commercial breaks. It wasn't a Sega or games related show, but just a plug between Giochi Preziosi (toy distribuitor), Sega and Mediaset (the TV network which is owned by a bigger conglomerate that was the Fininvest Group owned by a certain little Silvio Berlusconi), and that whole partnership was leading to the production of Sonic SatAM as Fininvest ( using the Silvio Berlusconi Communications moniker) was the major investor of the series WHICH IRONICALLY had scarce airings in Italy despite of how popular was the Sonic brand at the time. Weird unrelated history I know just to say that the whole Sonic italian plug was way bigger than it actually ended up to be.
Damn, as a fan of the franchise and a brazilian, I've never heard of this show anyway, rest in piece Gugu, made my childhood notherless :( *QUATRO MIL PONTOOOS*
