The voice to surpass Ryan Drummond.
It says "Here i am", not "Oh beer" lel
That little Sonic jumping about the screen is really adorable.

@@dakoolmama gracias senor!
Do you think that this inspired that gimmick from Studiopolis?
Screw Classic, Dreamcast, and Modern Sonic--- We need CGI Russian Sonic.
*COHNK
Bomber Blurr Big the cat is the best sonic
*СОНИК
Yup, *C O H N K*
Соник, or Сонник, just like that guy spelled it.
Let's not forget this show aired 2 years after communism ended
And people say Mario is a communist
Thanks Gorbachev.
then sonic was made when communism started?
Actually 3 years
Looz Jizz
Well, yes but actually no...
He doesn't say "Oh Beer", he actually says "А вот и я", which means "And here I am".
Thanks. I was trying to understand what he actually said X)
Thanks for the translation! :D
Before the text came up on screen, I actually thought that Sonic said "ELF BEER?!" xDD
"And here I am" sounds all nice, but it's still hilarious to us English speakers hearing him go "Oh Beer".
Thanks for translating
I dunno, the intro looks like normal early 90's CG
rogue and emmy tennis
It was EXTREMELY hard to create 3d CG back around that time and took massively expensive computers to do so. Practically no one with 3d CG skills existed, and it usually took a programmer's knowledge in order to even use the software. So, anyone who thinks the CG was bad is looking at it through the wrong context. It may not be up to today's standard, but for it's time, it was not too bad. Honestly.
For comparison, Toy Story 1 wasn't even released yet, and the largest CG production precursor to Toy Story was Veggie tales. So, look at it from that context.
@@XadaTen yes, they have to give the guys some credit lol
CG wasn't really getting too much attention until 1992 but it was nearly worldwide by 1996 I'd say.
That actually sounds like a cool idea. A console specific quiz show with competitive game play. I would watch that today.
*Krusty's cigarette falls out of his mouth* "What the hell was that!?"
ENDUT!
HOCH HEICH!
Het!!!!
Interesting that it aired after the Soviet Union collapsed. I feel like in the 90s in Russia were a time they were getting more things outside of Russia
Or at least trying to catch up with the west as I put it.
10:43 In here he says: "А вот и я!" which kinda translates as "Here I am!"
Oh beer, you're right!
The show’s intro predicted sonic adventure
*Sonic 3D Blast
Well the explosions gave it a more “sonic adventure” feeling
Oh hi sanic
@@FrijolesyQueso and the helicopter.
the intro is clearly elements of different sega arcade titles, hangon for the bike, Afterburner, ect
Did you know?
*Sonic 1 came out the same year when USSR ended up existing.*
Welp, one russian youtuber made a theory that Sonic symbolizes America, while Eggman symbolizes USSR.

Do a “it came from green HELL zone” green screen video
More like “Het” Death Screen!!
The story (Im a russian and i know lots of things about this show): 1992. USSR collapsed only around half a year ago. A group of russian people make a deal with one taiwanese company to produce new cheap consoles for russian market (which was on enormous stagnation). This console was an clon of NES (The original one was still under support.) and it was called Dendy. The company called Steepler promoted it in late 1992 and in early 1993 new consoles entered the russian market and got ultra-popular. Not long later, SEGA made a deal with Steepler to produce Sega Mega Drive (or Genesis) into the same market. That embarrased Nintendo, and in late 1994 (the time first chechen war began) it made agreement with Steepler, that russian side will fully stop dealing with Sega and start promoting not yet outdated SNES and Gameboy. This embarrased Sega and they started this show about Sonic, which aired from 1994 to circa 1995 to promote their consoles. The show aired on TV channel called РТР (current Россия 1).
I"m sure a show like this helped to legitimize Sega's reputation in the country very well.
What a nice story on Video Game version of Cold War between two superior Japanese Video Game companies (early 1990s) Nintendo vs Sega!!
"Green Hell is looking a lot more like Sand Hell right now!"
But seriously, great work, Dave!
I really want to see this done again by Sega in some way. Maybe a Sonic Mania tournament or something and have an animated sonic in the bottom-right animated by the sonic mania adventures/ Sonic Racing team.
It reminds me of Bullseye. A show during the 70's - 90's where people played a game of darts, while an animated bull mascot appeared for timeouts, reading out prizes or introduce the rounds. I loved that show as a kid; had no idea what was going on, but that animated bull made me smile.
Why Mania Tournament? There's no Amy in that game.
@@YujiUedaFan
She will be animated on the show though, for those watching at home; as a cameo with sonic. That and she will be on the intro of the show.
She's not playable in mania but is in the same world via canon; as the last animation proved.
@@lPsychoMax I guess, but I'd rather each character get their own paths for each level or at the very least, a slightly different story that isn't just Tails having Sonic's story. Though, Mania needed to have an actual plot to it outside of nostalgia pandering, because the Phantom Ruby just feels like a lame excuse to bring GHZ+ other old zones back.
I get that they want to keep all characters silent and don't want long cutscenes, but there should be some difference between how each character progresses through the game other than it being 3 basic stories about the timespace mcguffin with Sonic/Tails' path, Mighty/Ray's path and Knuckles' path. I also want to have the opening cutscene lead up to the game, like in CD and not have it be a weird trippy dream sequence.
The idea of any anthropomorphic mascot makes me smile. That must've been pretty fun to watch.
0:08 Oh no! A creepy Sonic model is associated with text that's illegible to readers of the Latin alphabet! Run!
That little Sonic is adorable. Even crying Sonic, that's rare to see. XD Too cute
New Badnnik Mechanic yessssss, i live for your niche Sonic content
*nice
I have no idea if the shows intro is blessed or cursed.
Its a blessed intro.
Blurrsed
No it's clessed
They may have received instructions from Sega to promote other Sega franchises in the intro sequence. The motorbike could represent Hang On, the F1 car Virtua Racing, the chopper Thunder Blade and the fighter jet After Burner... but I could be wrong.
The bike does strongly resemble the Hang On bike at least anyway.
Idk, that Russian CGI sonic looks pretty decent when compared to the Pakistani McDonalds Sonic commercial
First time I heard about this was on the sonic show that had those weird fake subtitles. As well the person who was behind editing it didnt know Russian.
Also that this show has charm and that intro has that nice 90's aesthetic and no you can't change my mind about it!
Where do you FIND this stuff?
The spirits show me dark places.
@@BadnikMechanic that scary as hell
Oh Jesus what is that monstrosity of 90's GRAPHICS?! OH GOD!
The second half of your "It Came From Green Hell Zone" music sounds like a theme from Jackie Chan's Police Story.
The ambulance sound sums up Sega’s demise in the console business😂😂
Keep in mind that this was made three years after the Soviet Union fell.
Somewhat off topic:
_My head cannon is that the cat in your profile image is the badnik mechanic. When the cat is done building/fixing the robot they proceed to play with it till it breaks and then starts the process all over. It originally started as a attempt at world domination but their hunting instincts prevent them from following the plan to full fruition but they keep trying anyways._
"Oh, beer" ~ Sonic The Hedgehog, 1994
I actually remember seening one episode of this show at kindergarden when I was around 3-5 years old.
I already knew what Sonic is (and SA actually was my first game that I played, aside from Space Pinball on Windows XP, and first ever game franchise that I saw and enjoyed), and I still remember walking to the kindergarden to watch Sonic X on big for that time TV with my friends. Maybe because of that educators knew what Sonic is, they let me and some other kids go to the special room with balls, toys and three or two (can be wrong in numbers) simple but functioning PCs.
For a long time, I was thinking that educators actually had two or three Sega Genesises lying in this almost empty room, but then I saw this video and this intro, I remembered that same Sonic model and Blue Spheres-like background, and then that cute 2D Sonic animation, that I though before was my corrupt vision of one of the first Sonic commercials in USA, that one with angry theacher-woman. I immediately remembered some frames of only one episode that I and some kids saw (guy in silver costume with silver blaster), but I can't remember anything more sadly. That was just a miracle that my educators had at least one episode recorded.
But after that day, we never went to that room ever again, I don't sure why, maybe because that room wasn't a part of my group.
I can't meet my educators anymore and ask how they got this thing, because I'm really away from that place now, and almost all educators had left that kindergarden since I went to fifth grade, but it still amazing, that someone was able to remind me on that and restore one long gone piece of my childhood :)
Fellow Mega Man PFP
The intro though, reminds me of Sonic 3d Blast for genesis.
I'm so used to the saturn/pc version that whenever I see the genesis version I just see something like this intro of sonic schoolbus; probably nostalgia is missing or something. But at least it's Miles better than sonic R; despite my love for it.
it still cursed as hell
Why does this show look so familiar, I can't quite place why but I feel like I've seen it somewhere before but I've never watched stuff like this before..
Your theory about the assets being gaming related is pretty spot on, but as far as I can tell, it goes a bit further as they all appear to be references to popular SEGA arcade games. The bike to the Hang-On series, the racing car to Super Monaco, the helicopter to the Thunderblade series and the plane to the After Burner series. Makes sense because as you mentioned, despite Sonic being in the name the show has more of a general SEGA focus.
I know one guy that knows about this. His name is Kinamania. But he is from Russia
Actually his nickname is Kinaman, but his channel is called Kinamania.
*It came from the green hell zone*
Het!!
With that animated Sonic, I was hoping it would be like Press Your Luck, but with Sonic Whammys.
I love the aesthetic of that set: Post-Apocalyptic Birthday Party
Finally RUclips recommended me something good
I remember in the UK there was a TV show called "Horrible Histories" on the channel CBBC, this TV show had a spin off which was a quiz show and reminds me a lot of this. Also recently on the UK channel "Dave", there was a video games quiz/panel show with celebrities playing video games from past, favourite games and new games. This was called "Dara O'Brien's Go 8-bit"
This brings so many memories back! I remember couple of episodes of this show. It was a year before i got Sega. I was going to be a sega/sonic maniac for years and this show was a start of that craze :D
Funny that even in russia people dont know about this show - it was quickly defeated by a better show - Dendy the New Reality (a show about production of famiclones their games and etc.)
And the intro was pretty damn badass at that time. Don't forget that the FIRST 3D cartoon (Reboot) will be aired only 2-3 years after this show and people dont even have full 3D videogames (only games like Doom/Hexen/Wolfenstein)
Ironic that the SEGA show got beaten in popularity by a show about Famiclones…
@@BinglesP SEGA was much more expensive. While famiclones and cartridges were everywhere and affordable during the economy crisis of 90s in russia. Plus the Steepler company that made a tv-show "Dendy the new reality" (basically an advertisement of famiclones products) made a deal to force more famiclones and games on the market. Also this why most of us never even seen SNES or snes games. It was all those stupid yellow cartridges everywhere.
@@bouncyrobots2658 Oh, I see. That makes a lot of sense. I just thought it was ironic, how it mirrored the heavy competition between SEGA and Nintendo in Japan and the United States. Still, thanks for clarifying.
@@BinglesP yeah it was a weird time. I'm still happy it was like that because we got everything from all countries (nes games from japan that were never released in USA, weird versions, versions with multiple videogames in 1 cartridge or even prototype or beta versions of games (i had beta version of Sonic 2 on a cartridge that somehow reached us) and stuff like that). It helped me to be inspired by videogame industry and move out of country so i'm not in it during this terrible time. Yay to famiclones i guess
To be honest I thought the intro was kinda cool aside from the aged cgi.
Oh Beer? Sonic, you better not!
Again, always impressed with ya digging into the interesting things not many people look into! Great stuff as always Dave!
Could only imagine how they make Mean Bean Machine setup.
The red eyes are still creepy
0:25
Haha got em
that's once cute hedgehog
Something can actually be done about the black and white episodes
Richard Russell invented a chroma recovery program that analyzes the chroma-dots on a black & white videotape or telerecording of a color program, and restores the color by getting the color information from it.
If the guy who owns the video tapes of those black & white episodes could transfer the tape in better quality (enough so you can see the chroma-dots), there's a chance the color could be recovered.
thus sounds awesome.
*this
That intro is very horrifying.
I'm so glad you uploaded a new vid
Sonic in 1994 crying: I wonder why the heck he's crying?
Sonic in that one Sonic 2 prototype crying: Aw come on! I wish he would survive and not die to that faker!
6:48 one of the rare moments where Sonic actually cries
Looks pretty decent.
I want to hug that animated sonic
Always love watching these interesting, informative, and just entertaining story of videos
The siren sounds like Wall-E saying Eva
Sonic has been attached to so many weird things that we keep learning about.
Reminds me of the Super Mario Challenge, a game show where two contestants try to beat several Mario levels. The set was designed after Mario 1 on the NES and the host was even dressed as Mario
The intro scene we do see makes me think of Hang-On, Thunder Blade and After Burner, all SEGA arcade games, so it could've been Sonic running through SEGA's library.
O my gawd
It makes it more scary since I’ve been watching creepy pastas all week
Also sonic looks a bit scared like he’s seen some stuff or is depressed
I enjoyed this! ^_^
Thanks for sharing!
The helicopter is also branded by sega lol
That Sonic drawing is the best thing to come out of my country yet.
I only have one question, why is Yevgeny in a soldier outfit with a toy raygun?
I’d assume that it had to do with the game of the week
@GeeboysGamesandMore I was thinking about that too.
It's because the episode in question was themed after aliens, so I think that is what aliens look like on Planet Sega.
Harvie Richards Fascinating
9:13 it sounds like “uga uag uag”
😳
Remember when The Sonic Show did a joke fansub of this, presented as real? And then it slowly devolved into just riffing on Tanner?
Oh great, Tim's suffering from borephobia again
14:12 Turns out, there was a Sega themed show aired in Yugoslavia called "Sega kids".
As far as I know, there's absolutely no footage nor screenshots of this show
As someone who's into game shows as well as Sonic, this is certainly something I find to be very interesting as it's a mix of my two biggest hobbies.
This reallllly sounds like something out of 'Video Power' or 'Nickelodeon Arcade'. Uhuh. Strange.
Oh beer? :)
There was a cool one in Canada in Toronto where i grew up called Video And Arcade Top 10 where they had kids playing against eachother , contests, and news but the main part was the two games the players would play, it had a few seasons i watched it for awhile on Saturdays as a kid it was awesome
I always watch your videos but I was asleep so sorry about that dude
God I love a good mystery
Now I need to know about that mascot at 0:28 :D dying to see og footage
OH MY GOD HES SO CUUUUUUTE AAAH
Green Hell Zone gives me chills damn
*Yuji Naka in the mid-90s:* wait there was a russian Sonic quiz show? im gonna look it up
*Google or whatever search engine they used back then:* 7:02
*Yuji Naka:* dreams, huh? ....hey Sonic Team i got an idea for our next game
So they got a console as a prize which they probably already had. Still cool. Reminds me of Nick Arcade
the opening is amazing almost the same quality as the really 3d youtube channel
The fighter jet in the CG opening is an F-14 Tomcat, also the main plane in SEGA's Afterburner.
10:42 "OH BEER"
Did this show predate Sonic Ride?
If so, then this is the first time Sonic was CG.
Cute little Sonic animation. Pity he didn't say a lot, but I adore the little cutie-pie.
"Oh Beer?"
Did you mean: Oh Vodka?
I would watch the hell out of this if they made a new one
This looks like a good video 👌😁
I like how you showed the clip of the animated sonic thinking while you talked about what made this show infamous for! Although i never thought that russia loved SEGA..
For a lot of people in Russia in the 2000s the first Sonic thing was Sonic X. Everyone even called the character "Sonic X".I didn't know it was a game series until i got Heroes for New Year's (on PC of course).
I don't think people realize how bad CGI was in the early 90s when you don't have the budget of Jurassic Park. Compared to a few Sega ads I can remember from the era, this isn't even the worst CGI Sonic.
Honestly I don't mind the early CG intro. It looks decent for the time, and even if it didn't age well it still looks kinda charming.
ok why is anybody not talking about the animated sonic that is adorable and really wants a hug also his voice acting is cute?
Heehoo, I saw your video back then in 2019! I'm back here since my friend contacted you and told me to leave a comment on your video, so here I am! :>
Feel free to contact me if you might have questions based on german or russian commercials. :)
Your research was amazing though!
I appreciate it. Multiple videos I saw about the show are SO wrong though. Alot of things got taken wrong on the russian portion I would appreciate if I could educate you about what you might've gotten wrong. :)
Feel free to comment any corrections since I doubt I'll be returning to this subject unless any new episodes get posted.
For 1994, The intros cg animation is actually pretty standard, if not above average. The first season of reboot aired at the end of 1994 here in Canada. Well a lot better with texture work and shading in the first season, it also had very basic animation. They invented the zipboards for them ride around on instead of having to animate them walking because of how complicated it was.
Oh beer
Did Badnik pull a Valve on us and not bring a "I Came From The Green Hill Zone 3?"
just the name of this title alone gives me smells of lost media since ive never heard of this before
This show was paired with Adventure of Sonic the Hedgehog on its airings. I think Sonic's dub voice in AoStH reprised the role in this program.
Why am I binging this channel
Because it's great!
0:26 *he pulled an ok on us*
...by the way, these videos are from my you-tube channel 😊 thank you 😊 It was me who recorded these TV programs on my VHS tapes in the 90s. And a few years ago, I digitized them for my channel.
