It appears that Amazon, yes that one, has decided to use Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog as a means to reward it's employees for good performance... Sort Of.
But more to it, it's a reward scheme involving their own company mascot named 'Peccy' and their Peccy Pin promotional scheme.

(Former) Amazon employee here. Here's some input that I can give about the situation:
Every warehouse gets its own set of generic pins that they can give out to their employees. The most common pins, to be exact. These are given out when it reaches a holiday/peak season, if the warehouse hits a milestone, etc. Then, there are the pins that are given out to certain people, like Employee of the Month, and, as you found, the Top Picker. Warehouses can decide if they want to use those generic pins they get sent by corporate, or they can try and make their own pins, as we can see with some of the franchise Peccy pins. I do not think these have to go up to corporate, because they are only giving out these pins to people who are inside that warehouse (I do not know much about that process, but I could ask about it).
As for this pin, it was given out to an employee who picked the highest amount of packages of the belt than anyone else in their warehouse (which is pretty impressive, since, from my experience, everyone in a warehouse can hit about the same number of items, so someone would have to pick a lot more packages than any other employee.) Since they usually give these pins out once or twice a month, this is an extremely rare pin, since it was probably given out once or twice, period. That might be the reason why it went for such a high price on eBay: it could be one-of-a-kind.
Also, if you would want to see some more cursed promotional Peccy stuff, let me know. I have a few things I could show you.
WOW
Oh! I didn't know that!
So basically, Amazon makes up for its crappy working conditions with a Sonic pin... very cute (not).
wow great info! still hilarious XD and cool!
Oh man, thanks for the information! So weirdly fascinating 😳

Is this a Sonic Adventure reference by any chance?
@@lonradb yup
employee here, I believe this pin was fan made by a manager for their co workers. And I do know my warehouse is open for art submissions for pins, posters and shirts. What I believe happened here, someone submitted this design got approved without the higher ups knowing.
And I do believe there a bunch of them out there, not one only employee gets a pin but many or hundreds. Never heard of a "one of a kind" pin and I have lots pin from my warehouse.
Yeah, I doubt it Amazon actually accepted this, I mean, even it was, it's an internal item that nobody is supposed to know about...
no i don't actually think so.

On the topic of using Sonic without permission, has anyone noticed that the most recent set of Nectar Points adverts are blatantly using the ring sound effect?
It's at least an extremely similar sounding noise. It's so strange and jarring to hear; it sticks out and it's really apparent.
I have been to several gas stations with cash registers that make that same noise. Its so freaken weird.
i'm pretty sure this is because sega sammy makes the software for a large amount of cash registers for some reason
You know after that Amazon Delivery driver going through hell and high water just to deliver the packages that were ordered. I think the Blue Blur best fits Amazon lol

All of this is so damn dystopian. This mascot, when i saw it, my face nearly melted off, it's the peak of horrible corporate design. It's like a Minion, which were kinda genius, except it's got no soul. What else, a horrible hymn mandatory to sing every morning? The pins. Why pins? Does anyone ever want to wear a corporate pin? "Oh look i'm so proud of my overlords". Remember "Pieces of flair"?
That being said many of the modified Packy into various pop culture characters are actually kinda good. Still not ever wanna wear.

Well that was... really underwhelming! I was expecting it to be like, using Sonic in there warehouses or something, but a promotional, non-public, employee award, keychain? I mean I guess it's kind of weird, but I was expecting something way more... atrocious, I don't know, still pretty bizzare!

Oh, so this is what you were talking about... WAIT WHAT!!!!
I literally just ordered some sonic stuff off of Amazon and it's coming today!
Great video as always! :D
Sega is surprisingly relaxed when it comes to copyright. There's a reason why you don't see fangames based off of Nintendo properties very often, yet with Sonic there's a huge community based around them. Amazon can get away with this, not just because they are a huge company that Sega probably doesn't want to trifle with, but also because Sega probably just doesn't mind. It helps that these pins aren't made to be sold, so as long as Amazon doesn't market these themselves and it's just the employees doing it, then Sega will probably just continue happily ignoring it.
You actually see Nintendo fangames be made extremely often, people make them they just get C&Ded fairly often.
When the creepy music played I was sitting up prepared to run and then it showed Amazon as I was preparing for a Jump scare
5:17 that looks like a minion burh
4:41 I was really hoping that he wasn't going to say the orange crewmate from Among Us.
Remember that truck that chase sonic in sonic adventure 2?
Sonic was just trying to escape from the truck companies that wanted to use him.
Worked in one of their warehouses for a year and I never knew that abomination's name was Peccy.
Amazon: Sees Sonic at trucking companies
Also Amazon: Gonna have to force my way in
I know why all these truck companies use Sonic. They want to get their stuff delivered as fast as Sonic
Sonic with a gun pin is all i took from this
As someone who worked on a bunch of stuff for amazon in the past as an unofficial artist, I can safely say no, not really.
I mean each FC is different but when I was asked to work on some avengers inspired artwork for new instructor lanyards and hi-vests. I was asked to make it similar but not enough so that we'll get in trouble with Disney if an employee decided to post it on facebook. A sort of "keep it in the company" sort of deal.
Hell, a lot of the stuff I made is barely even showcased in my own FC. The last thing I made was a series of Peccy graphics in a Tetris theme to promote storage safety but despite given a tight deadline and making said deadline, I never heard back about the progress of that campaign.
WOW weird a big company is using sonic? WHAT

The situation is... if they aren't "selling" these, it's most likely legal. Giving something away as a reward that they made themselves, completely legal. They forgot one of Sonic's eyes though, pretty sloppy. It seems they've used many other characters too. If it wasn't legal something would have been done by now .
8:21 OH YOU GOTTA BE FU---NG KIDDING ME!!!
I work at Amazon off of Riverside in California and I've NEVER heard of this? I'm even a delivery driver there. I've never seen or heard of the Sonic or Peccy pins. Especially Peccy being in different costumes?! It's definitely in select locations.
00:37: They’re clearly worshipping the gold altar that they’re facing, not Sonic lol. I know you probably didn’t mean they were actually doing that, but I also wouldn’t want viewers confused. Especially that I love Buddhist statues and altars, they’re wonderful imo. Can’t tell what exactly their altar is, but it’s really a very universal thing to put the things we love into one spot and admire/ contemplate etc.
next step : disney make a sonic movie without sega's consent.
Wait... There's a trucking company here in Norway using Sonic as a mascot?
How was I not aware of this?!
Surprise!!!
Check out my other video on it!

Now I'm getting a side job at Amazon for the sole purpose of the elusive sonic Amazon pin
3:27 he said this but one day delivery in a nutshell
0:07 knowing that this is something from my country that I didn't see for some reason is just so weird.
Sonic almost died to a truck In SA2.
SEGA prositute Sonic to anything from toasters to at games
My local radio station uses sonic ring sounds from sonic on the genesis for their money giveaway.
Amazon Sortation Center Employee here. I have a couple pins that were randomly given out. Most location have "swag" specifically from(?), and for that location. i assume the sonic one was just limited thing and eventually changed, like most things. It's just internal gift on amazon's part. anyone selling them is on the independent seller. I assume there's no copyright premission, but sega probably doesn't care as it probably doesnt affect them anyway.
technically those fanmade sonic pins being sold by an etsy shop are probably more illegal.
after reading some comments, Rumble Squad has a much better description.
Theory:This i think was made in Sonic day to celibrate it
was that the giant ant intro music from Red Alert?
6:05 lol and right in my hometown nonetheless.
Actually I can kinda see why trucking companies would wanna place sonic on all their trucks and stuff since sonic is known for going fast, maybe they wanna use him to make people think they'll get packages on time and fast. It still doesn't make it legal but it's just a thought
i dont care if this comment is cringe but my first "real" job was amazon last year, i cannot describe how much i hated it and how much it drained me mentally, the surroundings were so depressing and i couldn't keep up with the pace of picking or packing, to see one of my favorite characters that is a form of escapism to me used in that way makes me feel genuinely ill, it doesn't sit right with me at all. i remember id work in the massive dark shelves in the very bottom of the warehouse on quite days or early in the morning the only person id see for a while was my manager who had a persona 5 wallpaper on his laptop he was nice, i did meet alot of nice people who were in the same boat while picking, packing was mind numbingly boring.
They are dealing with SEGA not Nintendo... they are pretty chill when it comes to using their characters for a different kind of use 😆 even without asking... I think they even are kind of happy for spreading the awareness of Sonic. I mean... look at fan games. Nintendo instantly tries to ban Mario projects but sometimes Sega even Supports Sonic fan projects.
True ive never heard of sega taking down something using there ip so i doubt they care amazon isnt making money off of it ethier
0:46 sionc the hell monster
0:07 It isn't Tails. He's yellow, not brown. And the fox on the juice doesn't have two tails. It's just a generic cartoon animal.
Sonic's design is well made and memorable of course many companies will try to use his design. 😅
I’ve worked at amazon and there’s a little sign in one of the picking areas that has Classic Sonic saying, “Gotta Pick Fast!” Or something like that. Amazon is full of weird little references like that, at least the one I worked at did.
“Or used their services in some way in the last 24 hours”
*Sweats as someone who never used Amazon in my life now second guessing myself*

That tails render on the juice box though I have no words to describe how I feel about that also have you gone over that before if so could you link the video to me if you've actually gone over it before annyways though great informative video keep up the great work on these videos
Sonic Is speed, Sonic Is life, so, he must be imprinted on trucks to grant unlimited speed.
Fun fact I've seen usa military badge with mario and luigi from the 8 bit super mario bros on Google so weird bootlegs like this are crazy
And even shriek or shrek
Amazon passes those out and if they don’t pass them out you can always go to HR and get them is not in employee of the month thing maybe certain pins are
Peccy looks exactly like Diskun, the mascot for Famicom (Nintendo) Disk System mascot!
Google “Diskun” and you’ll see the resemblance.
I was unaware pin collecting was a thing. I'm kinda interested now.
pecky is literally the famicon disk system mascot.
uhhh amazon uses these type of characters to make pins to give associates .... keyword GIVE, no profit made off pins, they are aloud to be used
Wait, a Sally pin!?
After seeing the title my first thought was Sonic Prime lmao
The DCX8 Immediately gave it away for me. I've been to that exact location, and saw one on a yard dogs vest. Never seen me at other Amazon DCA tho.
Gog damn- that pin of Sonic w/ a gun is amazing.
Also that Sonic pin oh him in a chair- awh it's a bootleg. I thought it was official. :<
Gog damn thought the world of pins is a huge a rabbit hole.
Sega can’t catch a break, everyone is using Sonic without their permission these days
Places like these use characters and etc all the time to build morale around the workplace, I’m sure it probably breaks copyright law but it would be like suing and office building because their themed calendar that month was Sonic. Not really an issue for copyright holders nor would it even be cost effective to file a lawsuit. A similar case is that Amazon warehouses around my area abused the HECK out of Danbo, a character from a manga called Yotsuba&!, to the point where people thought he was the official Amazon mascot and looked at me crazy when I told them where he was actually from.
peccy looks like diskun the famicom disc system mascot
Oh, don’t worry. Big companies get away with this all the time- for example, Disney’s “The Lion King” stole from Osamu Tezuka’s ”Jungle Emperor Leo”. Disney was able to get away with it because they claimed to not know about the original source material.
