I honestly don't care about Super Bowl. I do care for the Olympics and World Cup. And I was not aware of Gojira's presentation at the Paris 2024 opeining so I was pleasantly surprised when I watch them. It was fantastic. Nothing will ever top what the French did with Gojira. That was surreal. Beautiful. Powerful. Epic.
French guy here. As requested, the depiction of Marie-Antoinette says "Ha ça ira, ça ira, ça ira. Les aristocrates à la lanterne. Ha ça ira, ça ira, ça ira, les aristocrates on les pendra." Note it's said with a typical people's accent from Paris. Though not that common nowadays but clearly recognizable. The "ha ça ira" can have two meanings, literally "it'll be fine" but it can also mean "that's enough". I tend to believe in the context of the whole song which also tells about a better future, it's the first meaning that's implied here. The full translation: "It'll be fine, ... The aristocrats to the lamp post. It'll be fine, ... We'll hang the aristocrats". For those who don't understand the imagery behind the lamp post, the idea is to hang aristocrats there. Regarding the boat, it's the coat of arms of Paris. This coat of arms mentions the city motto in latin "fluctuat nec mergitur" which means "it's tossed (by the waves) but does not sink". Lots of symbols regarding what happened during the french revolution particularly in Paris. In four years at LA it would be marvelous to have the big four doing some american historical song cover.
@@McLernonMulitMediaindeed, all this metal-opera show was relating a part of the french revolution. As it was guessed in the video, this is a sort of cover of a song popular during the french revolution called "Ha ! ça ira". This song seems to have been inspired by Benjamin Franklin, who, when asked about the american war of independence, invariably replied in his "bad" French: "Ça ira, ça ira". Another important historical item is the place where they played (Conciergerie) was the prison where Marie-Antoinette was held before her execution. It was the king's castle during medieval times, that's why it looks like a castle. Now it's a museum. On a less historical aspect, the view from the roofs with a hooded figure from the back is a nod to the Assassin's Creed video game which is developed by a french studio (Ubisoft). This character was there at all the opening ceremony shows.
Keep dreaming. Advertisers that pay for airtime during the superbowl never will allow a metal band. They are too afraid viewers will switch off during that performance. So they will pressure to keep the show VERY mainstream.
Metallica is not mainstream? Metallica is played during every sporting event in the U.S. and Metallica fans are in the demographic of people who have disposable income. I agree that Slipknot may not have a shot at the show but how about AC/DC?
Not in the eye of the advertisers. Metal still has an image and the way everything is polarized in the US nowadays, I am not sure the general public will be pleased. They could of course “sell their soul” to a big company, but how would their fanbase react? The reason Gojira could play at the olympics is that the event is less commercially based. The superbowl is on big commercial, where accidentally also American Football is played. I would give Metallica a better chance for the 2028 olympics.
The superbowl musical performances have been nothing but crap for many years and generally I do not watch for that very reason, a bunch of B musician lip syncing to backing tracks and autotune that is not music or even close. Gojira just put on the most epic olympic performance ever and finally Metal is front and center on the world's largest stage making the superbowl shows look like amateurs. Go hard or go home. My personal choice would be Rammstein however lets keep it American for now and go with Metallica for a full half time show and now with this olympic opening off the charts-LA has to fit in Metallica in the show. Another hugely popular superbowl halftime would be Kiss or more current Ghost.
I’d love to see Rammstein. They know how to present a visual. As far as Ghost goes, America is far too Christian to allow them to play at the Super Bowl.
it doesn't have to be Metallica to do the Halftime show......do Slipknot....In Flames.....Gojira.......Volbeat.....Mastodon......and even to diverse a bit......Korn.......Breaking Benjamin......the list goes on
What's the point. They would just default to Metallica and they would be boring as hell. They wouldn't pick a lesser known but more interesting band. We're talking a major media event in America here. They will go with the Lowest Common Denominator and safety.
I think Metallica would do the genera justice and be better than the other crap we've seen for the last two decades. It's not like to Super Bowl needs help selling tickets. But they want the name recognition I"m sure

Don't blame you but one can dream

Thanks! I knew there was an interesting set of historical items behind the symbols!

Maybe there's some new guys doing good job as like Gojira.

Rammstein would be cool. I think for a first metal band they'd probably pick the biggest American band

Metallica will be amazing
Makes the most sense to me anyway

MASTODON FOR THE SUPERBOWL
