    Just had to comment a word of thanks here for being very thorough! I’m attempting to rebuild one of the old can-old rotor Velineon motors...and they have changed the rebuild kit since your video...it no longer includes all the different bushing set ups that you need for the old can style. You video and the thorough shot of the instruction sheet was enormously helpful for me!! It is the only place I’ve seen the info I’ve needed to rebuild this motor. Thanks bud...keep up the good work.

    Its recommended you do this once a year depending on how much you run your Motor. If you run through a lot of dirt and mud and really push your RC hard on a day to day basis, then rebuild it any where from 6-8 months.

    I had my slash for 7 months and I just had a bearing completely blow on me it's a horrible mess it damaged the spur gear and I need to rebuild the motor. There's those lil bearing beads everywhere in the motor and gear housing. I had a spur gear that I put on and I ordered a rebuild kit so when that comes I'll be going again. Great video Stay Awesome!

    Im in the process of rebuilding and your video was great. I wish my bearing came out as easy as yours did. It actually broke so only the outer ring of the bearing is still stuck at the bottom so im going to try and figure out a way to get that out now. Thanks for your time though. Let me know if you have any ideas cause there is no guaranty that I'm going to finish tonight...

    I used a hack saw and cut a groove in it then I used a flat head screwdriver to unscrew it. Or you can use a torx wrench that is slightly bigger then a 2 mm allen wrench.

    Great instructional video. I recently experiences some concern with my Velineon motor in my Traxxas Ultimate. I have had the truck about 6 months. It has seen mud, snow, slush, water (bashing conditions). Just the other day I noted the motor as locked. I advanced the spur gear and it broke loose. I have applied power the motor since and it seems fine. I guessing that you would suggest it be rebuild. Thanks

  • @silverrick90

    throw your bearings in the freezer for a bit when seating them in the can and motor plate. less force required to put them in place because the cold will slightly shrink them.

    Hey there - By chance would you know if I'd be able to follow similar maintenance steps for the Traxxas 2200kv motor that powers the E-Revo VXL 2.0? I accidentally landed in a ditch and the truck was half submerged for about 10-15 seconds. I'm concerned I'm going to have to do some comprehensive maintenance sooner than later. BTW - I followed your tips on how to sling water out of RC tires. That helped a ton! Although the first dremel hole was a tad messy :p Thanks for all the vids!

    I run on carpet oval so dirt isn’t a problem I ran flag pole race where u run an oval then around a tire. We can’t use reverse and I got stuck against tire so I was bleeping throttle and got some smoke coming out from car and got got hot. I let cool down hour or so and I notice it still has speed but a lil laggy on takeoff. I pull motor and everything looks really clean. Getting hot I’m not sure if sator or wiring might have gotten messed up. Didn’t know which. Bearing looks good actually whole motor looks good just notice lazy start then from before Checked all my gears and all them ok. Didn’t know if u might have answer. Thanks

    Remember to silicone glue "fill in" the two extra motor mount holes,..... these extra screw holes allow dirt and sand a passage to the inside the can.

  • @darkeclipticheart
    @darkeclipticheart  12 лет назад

    If you cant use plyers to unscrew it you can use a drill or cut a slot in it with a drimel or hach saw and then use a phillips screwdriver to take it out.

  • @darkeclipticheart
    @darkeclipticheart  11 лет назад +1

    Nope. You don't have to use any grease on the inside. Just make sure it's clean and you're good.
    Always a good idea to use locktite on screws that hold metal to metal.

    Just picked up a motor with a front bearing collapse, so rebuilt it to put into my slash 2wd. I have a lot of end play on the motor (0.03 inch, 0.75mm). it is a new style case and new style rotor. (exactly as yours). i put the 3 shims in exactly as i took them out (in the same place as yours at the rear). how much end play should there be? shaft looks good with no visible wear, bearings fully seated. can I re-shim the motor (if so what type of shim are they as mine look like mica washers!) much appreciated for an answer as dont want to use my slash in case i wreck the new bearings (with the extra end play it sounds like the brass bushing is running up and down the shaft when i turn by hand causing a rattle noise)....

  • @joshriver75
    @joshriver75 5 лет назад +1

    Preventative measures aside, what indications would you get that a motor could use or need a rebuild?
    I bought a used slash pretty cheap for my son(its my first experience with a brushless motor). Pinion and spur were horribly noise and I just couldn't seem to get it adjusted right. I decided to remove the motor to inspect and realized it's not turning freely. It feels like a stepper motor in hand. I measure the voltage across the three poles by turning with a drill and all are about equal. I'm stumped?

  • @darkeclipticheart
    @darkeclipticheart  12 лет назад

    You can use brake cleaner but you really don't have to do anything with the motor but get out the debrees with compressed air. Anything beyond that could ruin the motor.
    Sometimes they come with rubber sealed bearings but they aren't recommended.

  • @TRAININGFLAME

    Do you think that a dirty, or seized bearing inside the motor would cause heat issues?

  • @Snowtrails11
    @Snowtrails11 11 лет назад

    my shaft spins freely by my fingers (motor w/o power or hooked up at all), with what seems like no friction. i bought it second hand and i have yet to take it apart until now (Was searching for a video to help with end housing) so i will try it, but i fear that the motor is shot due to it not accepting reverse input when on sport mode.
