Police recovered 36 casings from 2 high caliber guns in the street, 8 slugs in the house, didn’t even bother taking those in the walls, TV or furniture. They came through the siding and drywall of a porch then the inside wall and across the room in the opposite walls. I just left the room when it happened. In spring I discovered the roof was peppered with holes too.

ALL, except the .30 caliber Carbine fire a very powerful round. German MG34/42 fires the same round as the Mauser 8MM (7.92x57). In fmj these rounds would pass right through that house and out the back, even if they hit the 2x4" or 4x6" beams! One "Long Burst" of that MG34 would end this show early...

That was SOP. All medics got the nick name DOC, and never carried a weapon. The ones I was with in Vietnam were the same. We called every one of the DOC and they never carried a weapon. The we're the Really brave guys.

I don’t remember if it’s from WWII in the pacific or if it’s in Vietnam. The medic is a local hero. The town is the county seat and it’s on the waterfront of the Pacific Ocean and a river. My God! I'm glad that you guys are OK (I'm assuming that's the case.) It's a shame that any maniac would fire a high powered weapon into an occupied residence. Of course I don't know why anyone fired at you, but I'm sure that you couldn't have done anything that would deserve such an act. I keep my weapon collection in a 600 lb. safe so that no burglar could put MY guns into the streets. IMO All responsible gun owners should take such safeguards.

Side note as a WWII researcher I've seen many Americans who were KIA IDPF file you wouldn't believe how many traumatic amputations were listed. meaning they died artillery and mortars
The U.S. troops would (as with others) have the rear soldier / soldiers looking around to the rear, they wouldn't be all "blindly" looking forward, and German troops (and others) don't "conveniently" run forward into fire.
