Thanks , that is good info. I have an 03 E500 , just installed new compressor and went to replace the relay. New relay only has 4 pins, old one has 5, sounds like I need to reinstall the old one and go to the dealer to get the right replacement relay.
I just had a 2010 GL450 that was blowing F122 (25A) for the starter. The previous shop changed the starter and still was having the issue. The claimed they changed the under hood fuse box.
make sure you take negative from battery before any work, keep old relay and fuses in place while replacing just take negative off and you will be fine
Hi Lou, how do you open that back cover on the fusebox in your hand? I tried to open it cuz I suspected a ground issue (and I was right) but couldn’t figure it out. Can you do a video maybe? Thanks, that was very useful info!

I have a 2013 S550 and I'm experiencing an issue where the right side keeps sagging. The suspension compressor stopped working, so I replaced it. However, the new compressor still doesn't turn on. I've checked the relays and confirmed there's power. My question is: if the valve block is malfunctioning, could it prevent the compressor from turning on at all, or should the compressor still activate regardless of the valve block's status? Essentially, I want to know if a faulty valve block can stop the compressor from even starting up.
I've been watching quite a few of your videos, good stuff. I'm thinking about getting a 2011 GL450 V8 (no mention if turbo) 110,000 miles. Are there any specific items I should know about it ? Youve made me less afraid of "airmatic" actually looks quite simple. My mechanic skills are very novice. I can do basic maintenance items. Not scared to try anything lol. Should I run or seriously consider it for $12,995 ?
Have it inspected before buyin. Those cars were solid but over the years no one has taken care of them. If it was already “dealer” inspected then take it to another dealer or shop.
Hi Lou I have a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL 450. The air compressor has no power I checked the fuse has no power. I took out the relay and there’s power in the relay and the relay works perfectly fine. What do you think is the problem could you help please?
Great video Lou. Forget electrical engineer, you should be a college professor. Lou on the test that you're talking about, where you pull the airmatic relay out and try to start the car, will it be a crank no start, or a no crank no start? My R class has a no crank no start problem.
I replaced the compressor on my GL 500 including the relay. Days later, strange messages appeared on the display, LR malfunction - visit a workshop, airmatic malfunction, pre-safe not working. According to these reports, while we were on vacation last week, the engine went into emergency mode and hasn't started since yesterday. Could this all be due to the aftermarket relay?? It is a 2009 march Version of GL 500, 4MATIC
I read all these comments where people have questions and need help but this guy just ignores pretty much everyone. It's not like he has a bunch of subs and I understand why. Don't have a RUclips channel if you don't want to help people. Especially claiming to be a mechanic. I've also read comments where people ask simple questions and he's a total wise ass. The only time he responds is when somebody is giving him a compliment. I suppose he has a channel to stroke his small ego. Some people's kids.
Lou I just changed my valve block but prior I heard a loud pop like a shotgun shell. After one shock FRont right sounds like it's leaking big time. Would a blown shock prevent the rest of the car front rasing, the compressor comes on for about two minutes then shuts off. What do think Lou. Richard
A quick question? My Rear Sam got water damage and i need to replace it therefore, if i want to replace my fuse box because of the burnt ground (which I repaired and is working fine) but want to replace the fuse box can I buy the upgraded one and if so will the wiring harness plugs, fuses, relays work the same way as with the non upgraded one.. (2008 GL- 320)
@@buksventer4189 you will not need to buy the upgraded one. The process is just to replace it with the correct one. You do not change to the later year one
Lou I'm getting ready to change the air shock that blew out, but I have a question before I do. When it blew out I was sitting parked with the car idling. What do cause the shock to blow out. Days prior I had a problem where both fronts where real low but the rears where high. So I pushed the raise button which worked for the few days then the front right blew out. I then changed the valve block. After the shock blew, what do you think is happening Lou
@@RichS-xr6xz you can have a sticky valve block that keeps air going to the bag when it should not. You can have rusted links on the level sensor so the true level is not known so it keeps pumping air.
@MasterTechLou As always Lou, thank you for your quick and knowledgeable response. Tomorrow, I'll start removing and installing the new shock, hopefully all goes well. Thanks again, you're a true Mechanic
Thanks for info i did get one from Mercedes dealer OEM with 5 prong but i have problem with airmatic 40A fuse burn after 30 min driving car why is burn the fuse. When i install new fuse working fine for 30-45 min then burn again !
Actually I know you just said you got a dealer relay, but be sure you installed it in the correct position. We have relays that will burn contacts and stick closed causing the compressor to run till It seizes and blows the fuse. So the issue is either the relay, or the compressor or connection to it.
