As a black man, i feel very proud of the teachings he is presenting. I too have learnt alot from Afrikaans as an African and as a British/Cameroonian citizen. We should learn from others than to attack those who have come to live with us and have done so well for us. Afrikaans are Africans and regardless of our diversity in terms of culture, we must figure out how instead of being jealous of them, we can learn from and work with them for the collective good of the African continent.

    Greetings of Peace and Blessings.
I myself studied and understood Afrikaans and actually played Rugby and quit in a choice between an academic bursary and sports uncertainty, coming from a rural upbringing, with only a few goats and chickens as family assets. I actually played in the 2000 Craven Week in PE. Of cause, in those days, we were qouta players, only 4 Africans from predominantly white rugby provinces, excluding Border and Griquas, who were all African.
Coming back to the subject of Afrikaans and Afrikaners. I have a few acquaintances who are Afrikaners but I wouldn't call them friends because they are afraid to be seen as friends to an African. Isn't it ironic: Afrikaners who can't afford to be seen befriending an African in Africa. Yet according to my beloved brother Pen, these are men and women who are devoted to the love of Africa, I mean their clan name says it "Afrikaner", who could argue with that. What my beloved brother Pen tip toes around is: our new Africans, Afrikaners, hate the guts of most Africans. Even to this day. But speaking from a point of privilege, my beloved brother Pen, can afford to proclaim his love for people who, behind his back, call him by an Arabic term for a "dsybeliever" beginning with a K. Speaking of Arabic, a majority of the Afrikaans vocabulary actually comes from the Muslim slaves they brought with, through the Dutch East India company, especially Malay and Indian muslims, who would use the "K" slur to describe their captors, the now "inter-european" Afrikaners.
I am not one who seeks to see these brothers of ours leave our shores, because it's African to be hospitable to one's guests, a value that got us "conquered" by people we assumed to be "trade" partners. I believe the Afrikaner brothers have made a home here in Africa but I am of the view that, the broers would rather see South Africa's tectonic plate separate along the lines of SADC and move us into an island they can rename Mini-Europe: the broers hate our guts to the core.
I keep hoping that, just like in Botswana, the broers would adopt our languages, understand our differences and actually intermarry with our people and truly embrace the continent and do away with all this eurocentric haughtiness, just like the Arabs did from Djibouti to Egypt: then they would earn their self-titled name of Afrikaner, because they would really have embraced the continent. But with Orania and Afriforum on the rise; the love of the continent and its people will continue to evade our broers. And I am one who says, as soon as our beloved ANC is finished with the destruction of the country, our broers will in majority head back home to Europe, where they will be reluctantly welcomed, with skepticism of whether they still harbor genocidal tendencies exhibited by their forefathers between South Africa and the Congo...

Good talk on how Afrikaners came here to trive and conquer. What I take from this talk is: It seems that the struggle we as blacks face, had changed. At first, we were oppressed by a people we could easily identify. Today, the oppressor changed colors. Yet because of a violent history we still find ourselves fighting the oppressor of the Apartheid era. Yes, we need to tackle land issues. But it seems to me people put an awful lot of energy into it, rather than fighting the REAL enemy. The governing powers.
They are oppressing us by looting everything we work so hard to get. Much like in the story of Animal Farm. All we want is service delivery and a laws and regulations that won't make it so hard to create jobs. Not a day goes by where we're not faced with yet another corrupt politician. Mining for votes and leaving us to fight over the dust.
It seems that I'm off point now. But, the enemy is not the white Afrikaans dude living next door. We sit in the same darkness and drive through the same potholes. Our taxes are looted the same way. Our enemy is the ones enriching themselves, and they often look like ourselves.

    • @Penuelism
      @Penuelism  3 года назад +9

      Very correct.
I'll go as far as to say that even during Apartheid, white people weren't the problem, it was the governing leaders.

PREACH Penual PREACH!!!....Also would like to add that the Malaysian people contributed significantly
to the culture of the Afrikaner people in their food, language and their music. And by extension what
is called Afrikaans culture is also very much a part of the so called Cape Coloured culture. Its not by
accident that David Kramer in his genius saw the musical connections and actually wrote Afrikaans
songs that were influenced and represented by the Cape Coloureds as well as the Koisan people.
The Cape Malay people still sing folk songs of the original Dutch sailors which were learnt
during their forced enslavement by the conquering Dutchmen when they returned on their ships from their wars
with the Malays in Malaya, Java and SE Asia. And honestly, its the Cape Malays that have preserved that part
of "Afrikaner" culture more accurately, and so much so, that for many years it was the Cape Malay choirs
that were invited by Holland to visit so that the Dutch could hear them sing their old Dutch folk songs.
Additionally, Malay words like piering(saucer), piesang(banana) and badju -> baatjie -> baaikie and a few others
very much became an integral part of the Afrikaans language we know today. Moreover, It could even be argued
that it was the Coloured and or the Cape Malay people who first spoke a language called Afrikaans in its early
incarnation since they were the first direct descendants of the Dutchmen and the Koisan women. French, English
and other language influences came later.
Finally, there are more Coloured and Cape Malay people that speak Afrikaans today then the White Afrikaners do,
maybe always have. Its just a pity that during the hey day of White Afrikaaners dominance in South Africa many
in their tribe/race tried to whitewash or "purify" the Afrikaans language from the rich history of its founding. And it
is because of that, that the White Afrikaner culture and language became widely vilified and rejected by the masses
    of South Africans.

Penuel once more thank you for taking time out to provoke our minds. I can concede one aspect of what you are saying and that is we need to be less emotional and put in work. It's emotions that relegate our truth to whining and bitching, in the meanwhile we are spitting facts. There's a lot of gaslighting when we say our piece and this becomes evident in how we end up looking at ourselves, something I'm picking up in this video.
It is a fact that we were living in this country n continent before the white man arrived n how we were living is also another topic on its own but fact remains, we were living and happy with our lives the way they were. I read in one of the comments below you suggesting that living within the system the way the system dictates is feeding the white man, something along those lines? That can't be correct and that's dismissive of the real issues to engage in, that's the gaslighting I spoke of. I also need to point it out that by saying we must go back to rural areas n stop wearing modern clothes is mischievous because we were there n happy, evolution came, something that can't be credited to a particular group of people, it's a life's process not an invention of the settlers. The narrative that life since they settled here is better is not entirely true because they gave us a system of life and governance that is detrimental to us. They sexualized our bodies, introduced inorganic foods, monetized everything and today you credit them for hunting n braai's, how do you think we lived before they got here that is so bad we wouldn't have survived had they not come here?
It's not all that is Black that's always bad. Our whole being's mainstay is togetherness and communal living but they demonized everything we were n our only fault was to be hospitable n trusting.

If I may, karabelo Ntsamai, I would like to say something in response to your comment here. I promise to be as sensitive to the subject matter as possible. Please do not feel attacked or offended but rather take it as the potential to have a different perspective and hopefully a different and more positive outlook.
Let's for argument sake agree that the many bantustans tribes of southern Africa lived happily(this can be disputed as we simply will not know whether that is the truth as supported by empirical data or anecdotal one's) and then the white man came in and destroyed that, it cannot be overlooked the fact that these settlers brought many quality of life inventions to enhance the living experience.
Also it should be noted that these many tribes fought vigorously against one another for territory (in the form of grazing land and water) and in some instances just to conquer another tribe. We cannot ignore this history. You simply either left this out to make your case or were oblivious to this fact. But in any case, no matter how you look at it, it can be said for certainty that this barbaric lifestyle would have continued for far longer if not for the settlers who had already, to some degree, overcome this barbaric way of living.
I can agree with you that it is part of evolution but as history rightly points out, the western civilization were many centuries ahead of the rest of the world. If not for said civilization, we would've probably still had monarchies and feudalism and perhaps even slavery. Yes, the white man brought the end to slavery which was practiced by all civilizations and cultures of the past and which are still in practice in some African and Middle-East countries today.
My point is that we all made mistakes in the past. Whether you are white or black. But as humanity we have come a long way to recognize these inequities and to rectify them. The west ( the white man) just happen to be the first ones to bring about these changes. Now as Humanity progresses, we all are bringing about the positive change in our lives. I wish that one day we can realize that although we are packed in our groups (our people) that we can still be one. We need no longer to cling to the past and blame this and that but instead use it to evolve.
I hope this hammered through something if anything brought a more positive outlook to your life.
      Greetings.

Monetization of different cultural groups economies was an imperial British colonial introduction. When Voortrekkers escaped British rule and moved north they ruled themselves and Sotho and Nguni peoples ruled themselves. When the British government took over Xhosas,Zulus,Afrikaners, Tswanas,etc... The British went about making sure that everyone had to use money and bartering was reduced.
Afrikaners actually went from being almost only farmers(albeit productive), to having to implement a self modernization program mostly in the 1930s in order to fit into the economy that the British government established.
That same British government of the time also put a system in place that had Sotho and Nguni people from traditional tribal areas come work in the large cities as cheap labour for industries and mines in temporary housing areas which became "locations" later on.
You must read Moeletsi Mbeki's research on the subject.
It is interesting that Afrikaners then became blamed for all Sotho and Nguni peoples suffering.
One sad fact of history though is that the 'National Party' made Afrikaners ashamed of their non white ancestors (Khoi Khoi, San, Malay, Indian and Malagasy,etc...) although in reality most Afrikaners in their genealogy also have these ancestors too.

I always believed this truth even before seeing this podcast. Street names were changed in PTA & there was a backlash that followed which made me realise just how self-entitled we are as S.A.ns, yet having not created that beautiful City to what we know it to be today.
Problem with Afrikaaners is the institutionalised racism their success came with. I wish they had realised early in their rise as a Nation that, they really have the wits but no land (regardless whether it was bought it still wasn't for the then seller to sell) , which could have brought them to do more to avoid racism.

Whilst the Afrikaners endured hardship, showed resilience in their past struggles - and have a “Boere maak n plan” mentality - let’s remember that they also have a chequered past - in terms of how they treated Black people - and that is not playing victim.

Mr Mlotshwa the Khoi and San are not from Western cape as they were forever moving based on the availability of animals and water. So dont give credence to the nonsense that the western cape belongs to the khoi and San people.

    • @jasongroenewald3683
      @jasongroenewald3683 2 года назад +1

No, this is an incorrect thought. The first wave came with Jan van Riebeeck and the VOC (mainly Dutch) to establish a trade post but later developed into a colony even if it never was intended as such. There were many French Huguenots who were religious refugees that came to the Cape Colony at a later time. Perhaps there were some prisoners but the overwhelming majority of them came either out of free will or necessity in search of a better life which was the common theme during the age of exploration, hence why America was eventually established as well.

"If we can take away the emotions", it's very difficult to do that practically. Yes, the Afrikaaners have achieved a lot and done a lot of great things, but so did the Nazis. Unfortunately, it is not possible to distil their evil deeds from their good contributions. A lot of their achievements were acquired or funded through exploitation, robbery and cruelty. You made excellent points that are valid only from an Afrikaaner's perspective. I have a simpler position, and I'll paraphrase a half Afrikaaner Elon Musk. If we want to change our world, we need to reason from first principles rather than by analogy. As Africans, we should be the last people on earth to reason by analogy. Looking at what the Afrikaaners, Jews, Muslims are doing or have done and trying to replicate that would be the textbook definition of reasoning by analogy.

All the problems facing black people, the reason can be found in Deuteronomy 28.... that book talks about African Americans & black people in general...
it talks about how white people came to ‘rule’ us....it talks about colonization and the stripping away of our rights.
that books predicted all these issues you usually raise about black people.
unfortunately, your confirmation bias of your belief of Penuelism, might cause you to not even consider this to be true & I wouldn’t blame you because you’re in too deep already.

Hypocrisy in real terms. To say they... they...they implies that they rolled their sleeves and doubled down labour to produce products. Now, unlearn and learn about; their segregation and discrimination. First listen to yourself, the they...they you are so emphasizing. You should join Andile Mgxithama...he can lecture you better.
As humans segregation and discrimination is a Crime to humanity. You should know better Penuel Mlotshwa. I guess you're Mopedi or Swati now that you're nomore Umzulu. You must please read the sources/books recommended by Andile. Start with "Stolen Legacy" by GG Jones 🤔

Sorry Sir, you are mistaken. The people that you are referring to are Dutch People and not Afrikaanas as per your assertions above. Think of yourself in China as a black person referring to yourself as Chinese..? I would like to engage though on that particular subject and how this Dutch People decided to call themselves what they are not and we all keep quiet. You can't be so wrong even in Court they not win. Afrikaanas is us, the black people and stop promoting nonsense.
