Every Art Style Ever RESPONSE [Rant / Speedpaint]

- Hello everybunny, I recorded a reaction type of shindig with this video a few months back, and had an error in the file (which you will notice in the video- is missing a chunk of Fran's video, but you can still hear the audio). I kind of gave up on it for a bit because I didn't want to reedit the entire video all over again, but decided to just finish the last bit of it and put it out anyway. Please forgive, it's a bit more ramble-y than my normal videos because I on the fly reacted instead of putting together a more composed vid like normal. DO NOT send hate to the original poster of the video!
This is about a video by a user named Fran, who with a splash of humor critiques what she dubs "every art style ever". Don't worry, your artist big sister Yuki swoops in with some Hot Takes™ on a video probably all of us have forgotten about and don't care about. But hey, I don't like this concept that there is a right or wrong way to draw so HERE I COME BOIS
Anyways, sorry for a long one (Fran's clips are sped up to save time)
I hope you enjoy!
Also, I won't be hurt if you speed my videos up if you need to lmao!

And yet she draws mlp shit which was a popular art style during 2011-2016 but nobody shit on them like she did on ppl w/ “Steven universe” art styles lmao
"Some people just draw to draw"
Yes. People keep forgetting this. Some people just draw because it makes them happy, regardless of the style they choose or the speed of their development.
Just LET. PEOPLE. HAVE. FUN
On Pinterest I can post a pic of ur art in the comments of a post, NOT asking for constructive criticism, yet somebody who thinks they r professional gives PARAGRAPHS of constructive advice and critique. Not everyone draws to make money or to gain followers. It's cool if u do but not everyone does this. Some people just draw to make themselves happy and that is completely fine. like u said "Just LET. PEOPLE. HAVE. FUN"
True as an artist, drawing is my comfortable hobby it makes me happy I didn’t care about likes and followers I just want them to be inspired
You’re sooo right about that!!👏👏
She sounds like she is going to be that art teacher that won't let her students draw anime and then puts you down for doing it lol
My art teacher doesn't even let us draw people. Like completely trying to avoid the anatomy course
@@thetiredartist4818 reminds me of my dad telling me it's a sin to draw humans resulting into me hiding my art from him....
nah but if its a figure drawing class and the students draw anime then the teacher has the right to be mad tbh
@@nekochadechu Whaaaat? What is wrong with him? Ignore his coments and keep drawing, you're not doing anything wrong!
ねこちゃnekocha that’s ironic cause drawing people is like one of the most popular topics, don’t stop drawing ^^
"I know it's just your art style, but you do it on every single art piece." Uhhh, yea??? That was honestly so dumb lol
Does she expect us to have a different art style on every single drawing like? 😂
IKR LIKE THAT'S WHAT AN ART STYLE IS
"uh yeah i sure hope it does"
Ah man I really like this drawing, welp time to change my art style
I don’t want to be that person but I think she was referring to using the same poses/face expression/ and same face shape in every drawing just saying
Its EXTREMELY ironic that to this day people still call Steven Universe a "CalArts" show when Rebecca Sugar herself ( The creator of of SU ) and most of the crewniverse's storyboard artists went to SVA in NYC....Literally the art school thats the FARTHEST away from California lmao
gcheese isnt “calart” referring you a super generic style
Bee yes but to say that it’s only the result of “CalArts” the school as a whole is inherently flawed and extremely biased at worst
All I’m saying is that blaming ONE school for an art style trend across modern animation is extremely ignorant
gcheese I’m not super familiar to it, but was it only one school???? I didn’t know :(
Bee Calarts stands for California Arts it’s an art school in California ( obviously) and is a single college not multiple and most people who have no idea how the animation industry works blame this school unjustifiably for a “lack of creativity” in modern cartoons
So what I'm hearing is
"These *CARTOON* art styles do not have perfectly realistic anatomy, and I don't like that"
Nice excuse to draw deformed anatomy, that's the reason why these idiots won't be at kim jung gi level with that kind of mentality of never wanting to improve

Yes AGREED!! And, if you EVER want to go into art for college you cannot just turn in anime. They want diversity in art
@@hanakokun8641 I think people who draw in anime style because they like it don't really have in mind to go to art college or would only present anime. And only turning in realistic looking art wouldn't pass either. I drew myself in 7 different styles and barely passed because "there were much more possibilities I could have used"

The moment you enforce rules on art, it no longer becomes art.
If you want to stick out it’s encouraged, but if you don’t that’s okay too. No ones asking you to be that one in a million if you don’t want to be.
preach it soulfest
There are rules to art, like balance, proportions, emphasis, variety, movements, rythem, harmony, and of course color theory. These are the principles to art. Have you ever been to a single art class? Because art does have rules.
r o s e g o l d
I mean, to improve, you kinda do. You have take that step to improve, yourself. And it’s not always fun. Sticking to your comfort zone isn’t going to get you anywhere...
A Random Yaoi Lover those aren’t rules they’re just guidelines on how to be a better artist. No one says “ok in order to be an artist you NEED to have a perfect balance between the variety of your art and the anatomy in your art and your understanding of color theory must be perfect.” what the girl in the video is saying is more so rules because she’s shaming people for drawing the way they want, even if the anatomy and variety and everything else in the art is exceptional, and trying to dictate the way people can create art.

@@-randomuser-4897 oh sorry if you got the wrong impression ! i was talking about the user yuki was responding to ^^
I think one of the main problems with that old vid is that she’s kind of assuming everyone that she’s critiquing wants to get to an industry character design level. Not everyone really cares to improve and some people just want to make art how they want to make it because it makes them happy. Another thing is her video is VERY opinionated about what she personally likes and dislikes in someone’s art style. I think she makes some very good points for the people who are trying to get in to the industry but some of her points are just..?? I don’t even know? They don’t make sense to me lol.
Edit: also you mentioned something about her getting shamed off the internet and... you’re basically right lol there was this HUGE drama ages ago between her, spoctor and some other people but that’s a whole different story
Agreed. Imagine people just drawing for fun, unheard of!
OLD video, why is this girl trying to bring this up again? I don't agree with Fran but I don't think it's right to pull up old stuff someone did to cancel them?
@@archive5581 I don't think she brought it up to cancel her; I believe that it is important to acknowledge previously made mistakes by other people, so that you personally don't make those same mistakes. Some people do this quietly, and without even speaking a word of that knowledge gained. And some people have a platform.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I don't think she made this video to stir up old drama. I think she just watched Fran's video and was like "huh. I don't agree. I'm gonna talk about this." And that's basically it.
In all honesty, and with good intentions in mind; I don't believe that you commenting this was a fantastic idea. I assume you didn't really think too much about the points brought up in the video itself, and instead quickly came to a very biased opinion on the true intention of her video. I'm not trying to be condescending, or trying to start an argument, but I did want to give you a bit of food for thought.
Hope this helped on understanding a different perspective 😊.
@@archive5581 if you think this video was trying to cancel them then you really need thicker skin. Criticism DOES NOT equal cancel culture 🙄 and a year is not that long ago. hi im minqie!! and i was in the video!!!
tbh being in the video was kinda surreal to me, at the time i was 13/14 i think?? and honestly SOME of the critics pushed me to experiment a bit more, but only because i felt like i had to appease Fran -- it was weird. some of the shit she said was high-key kinda stupid - the main thing being that the overall art style hinders art growth. i had that "tumblr style" for a bit and it actually pushed me to experiment a lot with coloring and shit !! i feel like that part of my art journey was really important , if i hadn't gone through it then i really wouldn't be in the place that i am in with my art !! im proud of that era tbh and her video can't rlly take that from me :")
and what's especially funny is that she KNOWS she critiquing kids--and the way she goes about her criticism makes it seem like she expects this stuff from us -- like its BASIC art knowledge but we were (mostly) all really young and still learning. idk! its whatever!

Drawing In Perspective
It’s still stiff, and I really can’t tell if that’s foreshortening because the scale of the shoe would be significantly smaller, etc. even if it was, the pose makes no sense (I’m not agreeing with Fran or shitting on the artist)
36:19 may be a attempt at foreshortening, but the right foot should be been turned slightly to the right, because the different lengths of the leg doesn't look like foreshortening. But the drawing after that is actually good foreshortening.

I love how chill you are about all this, and you're completely right - let artists do whatever floats their boat! They'll progress and change and do whatever they want at their OWN pace. It's their art, let them do what they want with it.
I fully agree.
But what if they practice the wrong way and never improve at the end? Renember perfect practices makes you better
@@livetochange974 there's no such thing as perfect practice, practice makes progress. If they wanted to improve they'd learn on their own and practice when they know they need to learn it and have the will to
@@frenchfry55 yes but the correct way makes you progress even more...beginner artists mostly draw from their imagination or trace other people's artwork which will never make them progress, instead go watch tutorials from actual great teachers who knows what they are talking about and teaches you anatomy the right way, go on Google images and just search naked man or woman poses and just copy them all, you will learn way more that way than just learning from a random youtuber who knows not it about art (lot of idiots on youtube teaching you the wrong things), please elaborate on what type of practice you talking about? Practice isn't just sitting on a chair drawing what you have in mind for 8 hours a day, watch some kim jung gi interviews and you'll know why he's that good, not everyone will progress the same way if they draw for 1 year
@@livetochange974 I used to be a tracer until I grew out of it by watching other youtubers on my own time and saw how they could quickly make their own characters without bases and that made me really want to learn, I already had art class that taught me anatomy and since then I found my cartoony style. It took me a few years to get where I need to be because I was the one that decided that I want my art to get places. It's best not to get mad or force a beginner artist to improve their art if they really don't want to, if they actually asked you for advice and asked you how to get better then it's okay to try to help them , but if they don't want to change they don't have to and their find their way in art on their own.
I find it funny how people complain about the "same-face-sindrome" as if it was something that started with "steven universe"/"cal arts" when it's been there for decades. Hannah Barbera had a lot of characters with the same face. Most anime/manga drawn my the same artist have the same face (take sailor moon for example... They all "look the same") and... Well, Steven Universe have characters SO UNIQUE in between them.. Steven looks NOTHING like Amethyst, Garnet or Pearl... Pearl Look NOTHING like Nanefua, Rose, LArs or Greg... And so goes on...
And I feel like i'm totally free to talk about anime/manga made by the same artists having the same faces since I draw manga and suffer from that sindrome a lot ahahhha
I've been drawing and paintimg quietly for myself for years now and people are constantly asking me why I don't share/promote my work.

To me it just sounds like Fran is jealous of these artists who are just drawing in cartoon art styles, and so decided to make a video talking down to these artists who she calls "beginners" when she hardly knows anything about anatomy (as shown by her red lines)
ikr when she outlined the one artist's drawing with the red hoodie and was like "THE TORSO IS JUST A BIG SQUARE" and I was like GIRL THAT'S A BAGGY SWEATSHIRT??? and when she "corrected" the one's anatomy because the legs were different lengths, her sketch was soooo much worse than the original
Yeahhh that outlining she was doing is the worst way you could define the body
Yeah as a 12 year old, I agree that children follow trends. Kids get inspired by the things and people they like, we can't control that.
Edit: I didn't think this would start a huge discussion thing xD
edit two: the internet is a scary place for kids but I am no longer a child. My point still stands however. People WILL copy others whether it's behaviour, speech or art style, and it doesn't even have to be someone they look up to everyone is influenced in some way by other people. ALSO I'm not arguing against This video! I'm saying that it's inevitable, not that it's bad to follow trends
yeah same here, trends are fun to follow sometimes idk
Yes
Yeah, but what if they’re drawing just for fun? I know that if I was doing art exclusively as a hobby, I wouldn’t pour endless hours into understanding how clothes fold, how human anatomy works, how hair falls, how fat or muscle works, etc.
I’d just have fun doing what’s in my comfort zone, even if that comfort zone is drawing the exact same image over and over. If I never improve, so what? It’s not like it’s going to harm me in any way shape or form, I’m just having fun doing what I know how.
You have to understand that a good portion of people who draw and post their art online aren’t planning on pursuing a career in arts, they’re just doing it simply because they enjoy it.
Yes I know. But she was telling people who are very obviously drawing in the cartoon style (a style that is extremely well known for stretching, bending, and stylising proportions) to draw proper, realistic anatomy.
her anatomy-based critiques would be mostly valid if she were critiquing people who were attempting to imitate a realistic or semi-realistic art style, but she’s not. She’s criticising art styles that are purposefully simplified and stylised in such a way that they’re not meant to look like a real, living, breathing human. hence the word ‘cartoon’.
i understand that nobody should be attacked based on their opinions (even if those opinions aren’t necessarily ‘helpful’ or ‘good’), but it’s the internet, and we can’t really do anything to help that.
....I don't think 12 year olds should be on RUclips.
@Yes
What if you've already studied realism and started to copy an artstyle you really like?
honestly my opinion on the video was that; she was trying to express a point that in younger artists there’s a big similarity between artists, and she thinks that’s hindering their growth. she had a point, but it was excuted poorly. Fran isn’t a bad person, I consider her one of my mutuals. but, the problem with her is that she had a point but she excuted it poorly.
vinyl there are large similarities in almost every artist at any age, it’s nearly impossible to be original with so many variations in art based media
I get what she means but other youtubers said it better. She could have said, younger kids love this trend of round boucy looking characters and it's getting repetitive and might need to add their own spin to it. But name dropping children... while making fun of their style.. I mean I heard now she wants to be in a better place and to rebrand herself

Bruh okay ima only adress a part of this video.. first od all, when shes drawing the lines about what the limbs look like... she isnt really considering prospective.. like, a limb can appear shorter when its farther away.. also because of my scoliosis, my right leg is longer than my left, to the point where there a subtle limp, and im nit the only person.. BUT THAT COULDNT POSSIBLY HAPPEN TO A CHARACTERRR
Honestly her tone in the video and how she bashes the "tumblr style" just screams of her wanting anti-sjw points.
Frr im sad I used to be like that lol

i remember back in 2016 when being anti-sjw and anti-feminist was HUGE, and looking back on it now it’s crazy how different things are now
It’s giving me “not like the other girls”
"You might think this is the same!" No heccin duh, it's the same character. That's definitely not a good example of same face syndrome if you're looking at the same character. If anything it's hard to draw the same character that consistent.
Edit: whoops they're different. But that's an aesthetic too
Not to mention the width of the face is different
art from different people looking the same has been a thing for a long time. medieval art all looks like something from the same guy but it’s not. it looks like that because of the time period. art critiques are good but you need consent for that. it’s really mean to call people out on something they worked hard on imo. smh
Feel like she's thinking in a 2D head space this entire video she made and then calls these people wrong for adventuring into a 3D space. She claims the characters arm is to short when it's not cause the character isn't straight on, or that characters head was to small but that could have also been the person making a perspective mistake which is a COMPLETELY different monster than anatomy. You can have amazing anatomy and be shit with perspective. Maybe she wouldn't be so salty about other peoples work if she spent more time actually working on her own skills like that coloring she was complaining about lol.

12:30 in some cases, Same Face Syndrome is what MAKES your career. Just look at Sakimichan. We're all positive she can draw more than 2 faces but because everyone loves her 2 faces and pays her for it, she chooses to do the same 2 faces for everything. Her career kind of depends on it.

I’m here to say I draw realistically and still draw circles for ears cause I like the way it looks. This girl is heated over nothing. Leave the tumblr kids alone. Thanks yuki!
I feel like you’re that mom at a sports day that’s like ‘Do your best sweetie!’ And like ‘ You’re doing great hunny!’
Anyway I love your channel and you really inspire me! Keep up the good work!
It baffles me how people are trying to make the argument that adopting the "cal arts" style or the "tumblr" art style is bad for your career. So... you're saying adopting the industry (or what will probably become) the industry art style will stop me from working in... the industry...?
Fran: every kids art styles are the same
every young artist: *cri*
I don’t think Fran (or any artist for that matter) really should be focusing on style but rather their skills.
(Just because these people draw in a “similar style” doesn’t mean they’re at a similar skill level.)
Me being 12-16
-cries in attempted anime-
😂😂😂
*cries with you*
*cries in "Tumblr art style"*
I remember when I first saw that video, I felt so bad about my art style that I changed it completely. Now I've come full circle and I'm finally happy about my style again.
I like at how 39:47 she outlined the hoodie lol
Ikr-
It always makes me cringe.
it was too painful to see that.
And the "head" is literally the face
honestly i drew over that myself and there were a few minor minor things but overall it was proportionate?? like does she know how baggy clothes work
when i first saw her video, it made me feel really upset. i thought that art style was cute, and tried my hardest to draw like that. even though that style isn’t my taste anymore, this video makes me feel valid.
Omg but can we talk about how amazing your art is!? I love how the dress looks and the little details it’s just so pretty :’)
im in highschool rn and i went through a heavy HEAVY anime art style phase during middle school. rn, my style has nothing to do with the anime art style and honestly that phase of mine really helped me. like REALLY helped me AND it helped me get into 2D animation which is now my dream major.
some of those styles, especially at 36:23, definitely are very incluenced by galactibuns/cryptidsp00n/cryptidw00rm and the animatics he used to make, but honestly most of them are kids and kids will be influenced by popular artists! i used to be too, but my art has changed since and the artists in the video probably have changed styles too!
telling kids that their art sucks, "correcting" it in a public video and going on and on about a supposed common art style thats just a few traits you dont like, thats not gonna help them get better. op of the original video just comes off as a prick.
Me: *Forgot Fran existed*
RUclips choosing to recommend this to me: “I’m about to end this man’s whole career.”
Fran: *says anything about that artstyle*
Yuki: Well I think it’s cute!
Rule of thumb: Ask before you critique,
Sometimes people just wanna have fun.
Her: critiquing this girl and bringing up multiple points against her arguments with a well-written video essay
Me: *”how does she draw clothes like that”*
OK yeah that video is bad but your art?????BEAUTIFUL
my art style has traits from both anime and tumblr styles cause that’s what I grew up with. I’m only 16 though, I’m sure it’ll become more developed.
(oh and can’t forget about homestuck’s influence haha)
K weeb?
Spencer's Bullshit your art looks cool!
skellyaart Instagram but you also draw anime :’D
@@livetochange974 what the hell is your channel description though (just asking 🙌)
@@ssip7339 I'm just a idiot artist don't mind me, wait actually take a look at my instagram I draw naked woman's :)
"Why does your art style look the same in every drawing???" Uh... Sweetie that's the point of an art style, to look consistent. ❤️
I like listening to rants while I bake, and the amount of times you say honest to god LOL, although I agree with you on alot of your points and I love your whole vibe
Fran: hates on the "Tumblr artstyle"
Also Fran: Has an mlp oc
The thing is that most of that art she showed was old, and like I get what she saying but at the end of the day they didn't ask you to make a video on their old style and they have probably have gotten so much better at it too.
I just found this little gem of a video and channel ugh I’m in love ☺️
As someone who started drawing anime at a young age (6-8) I gradually started expanding my art style by making proportions more exaggerated WAYYYY different than my old art
I just recently started liking my art style after YEARS of hating it and I finally started to feel like I was going somewhere with it... before realizing I have a “tumblr art style”
Ah, yes, Fran, who's most iconic moment in history is falsely claiming a minor to be a pedophile just because she lowkey didn't like him, and her apology wasn't even an apology.
And she said "I don't think I ruined his life" like, woah
I love the 'hello, every bunny' so cute aaawww
Man, that girls sounds like she just manted to say "hey, I know all this stuff! And I can tell you why YOU are wrong :) please, I need validation"
can i just say, your shading process is mesmerizing
This whole video radiates the vibe of that one girl in the bathroom of the club saying that you’re beautiful and she loves you and I honestly love that-
"I know it's just your art style, but you do it on every single human" Uhhhhm y'all who's gonna tell her?
Artstyles will always look similar; since the artist is consuming that art so subconsciously they draw that way. Either it stays that way or they leave that artstyle to explore. Artstyles probably can’t be copyrighted since it’s a type of drawing, even with fan arts they aren’t exactly like the the original artworks ect
"If you draw a straight white woman with a heart-shaped face, ya ain't special"
Me, a straight white woman with a heart-shaped face trying to draw a self-portrait:
"......well feck."
I-
Feelsbad.
You saying people can draw the same thing really makes me happy as I've been told personally to kms over doing that and just doing art in general when I've done nothing but vibe. You breaking this person's video down is very well done! Hats off to you! You've gained a new sub!
I totally agree with your reaction. This person is obviously very young and has some BIG opinions. It was hard to watch because frankly most people have been at that point where they had a big opinion on something, decided to share it, and end up getting dragged, all because they are young, inexperienced, and can't understand the issues with that they are saying.
She is wrong on a lot of things. Cartoonists don't need to make everything proportionate to another.
What she is perceiving as "mistakes" related to that "style" honestly seem like just inexperience (nothing to do with the style) or deliberately stylistic choices (i.e. no knees cartoon).
A lot of things she identifies as problems with the style seem more like "learner mistakes".
The frustrating part is I checked out her chanel a little and not only does she also seem like a beginner, but she also has videos shaming another artist.
"He drew for 3 hours and all he made was this garbage" was the gist of one of her videos and that's just really uncool.
I hope she takes the feedback and learns from this- oh wait, the comments on this and many other videos are disabled....
Well then.
What she should've said was, "hey i see younger artists stuck in same face syndrome who often have art like this. if you are using this style as a crutch, here's a video with tips on how to fix it: ...." but instead she went on about how much she hates the style with no real substance on how to improve, bashing the shit out of kids/teens who maybe don't want to get better, or, who are working on it anyways and COULD HAVE used a more informational video on lighting, color theory, how to simplify into a style while keeping it diverse-looking, etc. She gave them no help, she was just rude lol.
On a side note, I really love (well your whole style) but I really love the way you do ruffles and folds in fabric!
I wish I had watched this video when I was younger.
Your point about how it’s okay to stay complacent in art for a while, really was a difficult idea for me to grasp back then.
The fact that you said that it’s important to take care of your life outside of art, really hit home for me. Because that was how I finally convinced myself that it was okay not to constantly improve, because I have others parts of life to manage and improve in.
Regardless of when I watched this, I’m glad I got the point refreshed.
I actually like my art like some times I’m like oh this is cute and I know it’s not good but it makes me happy. And then I see other people’s good art n I’m like shit I wish I drew like them. That’s my problem lol.
This is so relatable 😂
Crazy this video is 4 years old. Tbh this video is mainly what got me into the commentary community more and art drama, i got so hyper fixated on it for a lil, comfort video fr
A couple of the artists Fran critiqued/complained about didn't even give her permission to use their art
I think i’m very insecure about how my artstyle looks.
I pulled an all-nighter to make a drawing and showed it to my brother, he said
“it looks good, but it feels like your artstyle looks like every artists in instagram”
He doesn’t mean to be harsh and all, but i felt really insecure because of it for some reason idk
I watched that vid before just to suffer myself :v
Watching other artists with an iconic artstyle really made me jealous too
U really helped me to put my mind out of that video with this rant. I also draws with a typical anime style :v
The fact i’m on my art block made me feel worse because the thought of like “ i’m so pathetic, my art isn’t even good. Why do i struggle as if i’m a pro”
U inspire me sis :vvv
God- your art is so cute and your statements and takes are so valid- my only thing is that I wish you had a more consistent editing style for your videos?
Sometimes the video is in the corner, sometimes the video is over the whole screen, and sometimes it's just audio- the last one is especially annoying when you're trying to address things in the video you're critiquing. Still- great video! Loving it!
when she said about the faces being the same, you can see that the faces are not the *EXACT* same, they are just similar, and she outlined with a thicc red line, that makes it look like the same shapes, but i did it, if you put them all one on top of the other, and overlay them, you will see that they are not the same. checkmate atheists
She calls Steven Universe an SJW show cause it has representation, I can’t with her...
The artist she showed us that had the same face syndrome actually had different face shapes. Like omg
"The anatomy is-"
Fran: Wack
Tbh I'm kinda mad this video got recommended to me bc I just wanted to forgot that stupid incident but I'm also pretty happy I crossed paths with this video bc you draw Ichigo, my fav childhood heroine, amazingly and I love that piece sm 💕
Somewhat related, but hearing the whole “same-face syndrome” speech over and over made me feel... kinda bad. I mean, I’m all for improvement and yes, same-face syndrome is a real thing and is a real problem in the art community, but I’m not talking about same-face syndrome. I’m specifically talking about the people who push the “fact” that if you draw similar things then it hurts your art and talent. What they don’t get is that I personally don’t draw to get into the industry. I don’t draw SPECIFICALLY to improve (most of the time), I just improve over time. I draw just to draw. I draw because I have the creativity and “talent” to draw. It’s fun to me, and sometimes I do art therapy. It’s overall very beneficial to my mental health (of course it’s detrimental in many ways too), and being told that “same-face syndrome” (when really it’s just drawing similar things) is hurting my art isn’t that encouraging. idk maybe that’s just me lol
i remember whenever i first watched that video i was so pressed that i created a character that included almost all the "bad" features she mentioned purely out of spite. i still use that character to this day, and I've gone from that single character to an entire world and story with dozens of other characters.
I don't like it when people go after children and tell them not to draw in an art style they enjoy. Lots of kids get into art because of their favourite tv show, comic, or game. they might change styles along their artistic journey, or never deviate. And that's completely fine. No one has to be the best artist ever. Art can be just for fun. When you're young, it's best to encourage the child with something they like, and maybe offer some help with teaching if the child wants to learn more.
If someone enjoys an art style that has little variety and same face syndrome. that's still art and totally fine. If the artist wants to grow and try more, then yes, they can learn to do more. You could be a great artist, having the time of your life by drawing the same character every day all the time. Jackson Pollock did very similar paintings and he's still considered a great artist.
I think it's so awesome how we can convey so much, as artists, with very few lines. Cartoony/anime styles can be very simplified, but we still understand what is being portrayed. I don't think we should demean artists who choose to draw mouths with two dots or one line, a nose with a dot, eyes with dots, a hand with just a circle. That's not objectively bad. It entirely depends on what the artist is trying to achieve. I think it's wrong to say that art is better when it's more true to life by being properly proportioned (Picaso anyone??), variety of body shapes and face shapes, etc.
I also think it's really low to go after literal children who were probably not asking for critiques and just posting for fun as a hobby and being publicly shamed. She should go find someone who actually wants to be critiqued.
Even the super cute soft chibi art style that’s all over Instagram (you know, with the sparkles & pink/purple & the gridlike background). I see that all the time & I follow so many of those artists. There’s nothing wrong with having a similar style to someone else
I mainly came here for the cute art. You did great, Yukibunns!!
Duuuuude, ty for serving the tea, but honestly I couldn’t focus on the drama, your art is too adorable. The way you do lineart is fantastic; clean, beautiful weight, and so detailed. Thanks for the awesome content 💖
There’s so much hate against the “tumblr art style and Calarts art style” but I think that style is so cute and expressive. The people I know who draw like that are always such nice and funny people.
no one gonna talk about how inspiring it is to watch her draw-?
Having similar art styles isn’t a problem, you still aren’t going to draw the same thing and you will still develop.
Just because my art style seems to be going in a way similar to *ABD Illustrates* doesn’t
mean I’m not constantly learning and getting better. 😑
Edit: I’m also not about to totally change my style just because it ‘stops my development as an artist’
Honestly, those artists she showed could have a bright future working for animation! I think they're neat
