Good conversation! I follow Cory and consider him to be a great source of information. The conversation between the two of you brought out information from him that I had not heard. I also appreciate what I learned from you about dirty tanks, something I have never tried.
I also wonder how movement and water flow/agitation plays into the oxygen balance. In a pond, lake or river there is generally an inlet/outlet, springs, wind, rain and whatnot and that wouldn’t be happening in my tank other than water changes, top ups or the air stone (and sponge filter).
@@LisaTheWulf thank you and it was a great conversation on my end as well. Very true with your theory on oxygen! Cory had convinced me to add oxygen back in at the very least.
Cory is right about the dirted tanks. Like always, research research research before setting one up. Great points. I love dirted tanks as well but they are not for everyone. I also agree with Cory about the oxygen part. I still run filtration so be it sponges or hobs on all my dirted tanks. All is well. I could run them filterless but why? As always, do what you love
@@kdr1048 no I agree with you and honestly it was a great talk with him and opened my eyes on how I’m maintaining my tanks. He actually is sending me some co op air stones and think I will be at the least putting airstones back in. I love conversations that’s how we can learn from each other

Hey patty i felt like you were exactly describing me when you talked about the resurrection tank only difference is i dirted mine and added plants in a 5 gallon, i get my water from chicago river
@@Moteb208 awesome I find that tank so incredibly intriguing. There is so much life I’m really curious to see how it develops long term. How long has yours been up and running?
@ 6 weeks it’s showing signs of life, the plants are slightly melting but doing ok I’m considering adding small fish to help plants, it is in the window drastic temp fluctuations even with a heater, saw some rainbow shiners at store, tank might be small for them. I know i should wait a month for parasites. Maybe i can add neo caradina
@ nice, yeah that might be a bit cramped for shiners and they love flow as well. Shrimp would be doable for sure. I don’t plan on stocking fish in mine, I want everything like the aquatic isopods to reproduce and the copeds and seed shrimp so I can use them to feed fry. Keep me updated I’m definitely interested in the progress of yours
Also a year ago i did a 3 gallon without substrate and even thou the old river water is cycled out thru water changes theres tons of critters in there and what i do is put the baby fish in there until they get big enough to hang with the big boys, ill still add food while they learn how to hunt. Really interesting tank you would like it
I hope you document the axolotl tank! I will be setting one up in March for my sons birthday (he has also been asking for over a year) and have been watching ALLLLLL the videos.
@@sweetpaulie yes, probably in the next couple months. I have new logo design which I will probably show this week. I recently lost my Fahaka puffer after having him for over 6yrs. Lost power for 10 days from Hurricane Milton. I got him when he was about the size of a half dollar, and he was 13 inches when he passed. Anyways, I'm just writing this to let anyone who is interested in keeping bigger puffers that the food bill can be VERY cheap if you plan it right. I got a 300gal Rubbermaid tote, cherry shrimp, ramshorn snails and marmokreb crayfish a month before I bought my puffer. After that, the only money I spent on fish food, was flakes and algae wafers for the crayfish and shrimp. Believe it or not, the biggest fish I had was the cheapest to feed!
@@aquablaster86 I’m sorry for the lose of your puffer and you have some great tips thank you for sharing. I feed a lot of frozen raw shrimp I buy then supplement with snails, clam in the half shell and the occasional live crayfish. It’s actually cheaper to feed mine than my other fish. Might be different with the big MBU puffers Cory kept though . Thanks for sharing those ideas 😁🙏
I just wanted to chime in. You're totally right. My state all crayfish including markrebs are illegal. So I don't have the cheap option :( But yes, my limitation doesn't exit for most others :)
