    Your open mindedness is refreshing! As a fairly new fishkeeper (3 years) I’ve been setting up all different types of tanks: aquasoil, lasagna with lava rock and flourite, sand, sand cap, gravel, and just put dirt in one last week…I think it’s fun to try new things and see where it takes you! I’ve gleaned so much from RUclips but am leary of anyone saying they have the best and only way. Your easy going approach drew me toward trying my first dirted tank. Thank you!

    Patty, respect for having your methods challenged and for responding in a professional and reasonable way and for being open and willing to accept possible flaws of your own. Patty you're awesome. Thank you for being so sensible and setting a positive example. Your conclusion on listening first, and then deciding if you want to agree or not is so important in life. This idea that we are married to our ideas, and a disagreement with an idea that we have is a smudge against us personally is not okay. My tanks where definitely matured and i had cichlids like electric blue acrua, kribensis, apistogrammas breeding in my gravel tanks. Then i came across father fish. And i seen him with the dirted deep substrate and i seen the way his tanks had so many plants and like i said i been wanting to have planted tanks. But all 3 of my tanks had gravel and fry. At first i was just gonna cap them but im just like you i seen a challenge and started over and made my 55 and 10 gallon dirted deep substrate tanks. Everyone thought i was crazy cause i still wanted the cichlids and them breeding. Fast forward almost 2 years i have electric blue acrua and my kribensis spawning in a dirted deep substrate tanks. Also i got into white cloud and my betta all in ff style tanks. I have 3 different microfauna tanks and im culturing green water for the daphnia im gonna be getting next week. Hi. I personally don't like to use any pumps for my tanks unless I really need to, it's because I hate the noise in my room. I remember from Diana Walstad book that airstones quickly remove CO2 from water, which is not good for the plants, and more oxygen for fish is needed only if they are gasping for air, especially in the morning after lights turn on. If the fish are gasping, it's probably something else not right in the tank, like not enough stem plants or too many fish in one tank. If they gasp a little bit, it seems logical to try to fine-tune it by increasing the intensity or duration of light. Anyway, I just don't like my aquariums to depend on lots of electrically powered mechanisms, especially if they are noisy😅. Anyway, I'll dedicate time to listen to your and Cory's conversation. Hope you'll get well soon

      exactly the same here. no noise. nothing at all. I get regular power outages and my fish are safe everyday and happy as they are. I won’t be changing anything.

      @pattys_aquatics  5 дней назад +1

      @@igorgilza I agree with the noise it was one of the main reasons I cut out the air about 8 months ago. I may invest into a linear air pump I can mount in another room and pipe it into the fish room to cut it down. I also may put the pumps on timers. I used to do that and run them only at night when the oxygen levels would be at there lowest. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
