I just wanna say, the quality and cleanliness of any restaurant is completely dependent on the staff that runs it. I’ve worked at a Popeyes before and our restaurant was very clean and safe, because we had employees and managers that truly cared. We power washed the floors every week INCLUDING under all appliances, and in between that, we would sweep mop and squeegee our floors every night. We always followed storing rules and always made sure to clean and stock before the next shift. Sadly, when eating at a restaurant, you are really just relying on complete strangers to serve your food safely, you just gotta hope they care enough.
Having had numerous pet rats, I can verify that, if they put their mind to, yes, the term criminal mastermind fits! I returned home early from work, to see my 2 girls rush back to their cage and close the door behind them!
In the early 70's, I worked as a waitress at the Marlborough-Blenheim Hotel in Atlantic City. I never saw rats in the kitchen, but it was always a very by place when I was working. However, the employee lunchroom was just off the kitchen. Sometimes when we were eating lunch, rats would run across the overhead rafters. A bit unsettling...
After seeing that video, it was a done deal for me! Never again did I sat foot inside Popeyes after that. Smh, I'm so done with dining in restaurants now after watching this. A big Thank you for exposing these places.
Things like this won't necessarily scare me away from eating fast food as I'm sure we all have eaten contaminated foods. Better to just eat home cook meals.
People complain yet are also too lazy to take care of their own food prep. If you are going to take the risk, don’t be surprised if you eventually get sick.
People get mice in their houses when it gets cold. Even more when you live near fields. Buuuut restaurants can NEVER have an issue. I can understand it happening. Them not taking action to fix that issue is what’s the problem.
WOW! Thank goodness for these honest people who posted these videos! We all eat out from time to time and need clean food~ No Excuses! Clean up these places and do due diligence to keep these places clean!
I've usually been to restaurants that are well kept clean and rodent free. So when my Mother-in-law squealed in side an IHOP because there was a roach chilling on the wall beside me, and the manager stood on my seat to squish it right above our food... I was shook.
I once worked for a place in Londond where dealing with rats was our daily task. The owner did not care, told us to clean the poops from counter and till every morning and that was it. When I went for toilet there were rats running under my feet all the time. Never left my personal belongings in the "staff room". I left the place after less then 2 weeks. Chef was not washing his hands after toilet. That's why I prepare my food at home.
I worked in restaurants for years . I've never encountered rats or roaches . The cleanest restaurant I worked at is The Holiday House in DeLand , Florida . Mrs Cook ran her restaurant with an iron fist . Everything had to be followed to get specifications . Her son was second in charge . The food was the absolute best . When the restaurant closed at night a cleaning crew came in and cleaned the restaurant from one end to the other . If I ever were to have a kitchen like I want it would be modeled after their kitchen . There are separate areas for pots and pans , silverware , dishes , glasses and plastic to be washed . Mrs Cook was a pleasure to work for even though she was strict . I admired that about her . She has written many cook books and was a water ski champion. She was a good Artist too .
Guys, I can truthfully say that Chick Fil A has an amazing system of cleaning, and they are super strict on cleanliness rules, so there’s at least that
Had a friend order food from Popeyes in North Carolina and when she got home there was a live mouse in her bag. She took a video of it and the manager tried to say she put it in there.
If you ever spot a rat or other violation that restaurant shouldn't be doing, report it straight to the health department. Managers are just going to sweep things under cover.
I worked at a Popeyes that was newly built so everything was kept clean. A couple months later I left because of the environment (the managers). I did come back because they begged me to and let me tell you. The kitchen was the dirtiest I’ve ever seen it everything was a mess needless to say I went back for a day and never returned.

Rodents and roaches aren't just in fast food restaurants, any place that deals with food is bound to have roach and rodent problems, it's part of their nature to crowd and nest in places where a lot of food is accessible. I work in a Grocery store I haven't personally found any in people's groceries since I don't stock shelves I mainly doing checker and courtesy (Courtesy is helping my managers with stuff they don't get time to do or go get carts), but I'm sure there's rats and roaches in the back rooms where the food is stored to be stocked.
I work in a grocery store (also checkout) and we do have mice/rats and sometimes bugs such as flies. Once in awhile a bird will accidentally get into the store too, and fly around.
It's a shame. Rats can transmit deadly diseases and most likely have a painful bite, but I would still try and pet them if I saw one at the local Mcdonalds. A shame, for me and the rats.
Wasn’t there a study done about 15 years ago that tested the amount of transmitable diseases per 1000 rats in NYC and found that the chance of getting sick from contact is less than 1%, with the main cause of disease being the insects and parasites rats tend to be host to?
Nutria. It would be perfect. They are plentiful and cheap in Louisiana, tasty seasoned just right, and it would give Popeyes another connection with it's roots. Why it's right up there with fried frogs legs and alligator tales. They could do a medley, call and it Southern Fried Taste of the Swamps.
I remember having small Cafe field trips back then, and since we live in a poor place there was quite alot of trash around the heart of the city. Funny thing was even though we arrived a day earlier than expected, before the cafes officially opened they sanitized, called pest control to get rid of hiding bugs and even cleaned it even after sanitizing the whole place. But then those cafes were small family owned businesses
The owners of the restaurant knew what was going on in this place. Most all restaurants do this. They don't worry about cleanliness until time for enspection.
Someone didn't cover the gap under the house so that meant mice moved in when it got cold. They didn't go into the pantry. They didn't take food. They hung out around the water heater and got into my closet. Lost part of a scarf. They had a virtual buffet open to them and they went for the warmth. If you have any kind of opening, you're getting something. You could scrub those floors, you're getting SOMETHING. Plug up those holes. No janky plumbing. No janky heating. No janky ANYTHING. If you can fit your thumb on the opening you need to expect a mouse will try to squeeze through. It's all they need... and they will try to get warm.
exactly. they're just trying to survive, and we create some comfy shelters. it's just how it goes. we had a cockroach problem in my condo for a bit and my ex bought some foam sealant and closed up every gap between pipes and walls. i've seen maybe 2 since then
14:52 yeah, I wonder why there was no other cases when the employees trained in that local where they found the rat didn't take immediate action and called the sanitizer, they just did after this man recorded this video and posted so the public could be fully aware of it :( A shame !!
Anyone who knows or see rats at a restaurant or anything else that crawls or creeps in their food and it is not on the menu .. should not think its normal to eat there .. please run far away ..
Almost every kind of place that has a kitchen, like hotels, restaurants etc. will have to deal with rodents or cockroaches at one point and is a constant thing to worry about. I've had a family member that worked in a hotel as someone in charge of cleaning and as a receptionist. Pests are practially inevitable to avoid, despite how well maintained the place is.
I know a friend that has worked in many restaurants and he claims that there were not a SINGLE restaurant that he worked at were rats free. Sad reality but we're still gonna order them lol
Rodents and bugs are inevitable in food related industries. The difference, however, is if activity of a pest is found, in a good facility it is immediately investigated and handled. Not left alone to worsen like in that video that gentleman showed.
To be real... if you eat in a large downtown area of a city, there will be mice/rats! I live in New Orleans and have worked in high end restaurants who clean thoroughly every night, have the pest control come out at least monthly (more when its bad) and there was nothing that made them fully go away. With large building touching/so close together, old buildings, food, etc. they will always find a way in. It's a fact of restaurants in large cities and I do believe some restaurants do not do enough to fight the issue and it becomes disgusting. The ones I worked at did what they could. The mice would mostly come out in the evenings when not a lot of people were there and every night the food was picked up and put away in air tight containers and in refrigerators. I don't believe anyone ever ate anything unsanitary or that had been contaminated by any mice. Now there are absolutely restaurants in the French Quarter and downtown I would never ever eat anything from! This is basically to just be real and let you know its a part of the restaurant industry. We can combat the problem but they won't ever go all the way away. If a restaurant looks dirty, the service is bad like they don't care (they certainly don't clean if they don't care about guest) and you are in a downtown area, then do not even think about eating there!
When my children were small if someone invited us to a restaurant I used to say, NO THANKS. Just to protect my children, and I didn't care what the person was thinking about me. I thought I did not have to give any excuses, yes I'm rude sometimes.

Exactly. It’s not the franchise. It’s the people in the store everyday. Filth comes from lazy workers and pest control is a management issue
I work in a factory delivering to McDonalds and I can say they’re one of the most involved customers. They regularly check if our employees are treated well and check that all the hygiene rules are in place… I hope they treat their own employees the same
This is exactly why I’ve been learning how to cook for myself this past year. I’ve worked at several fast food establishments and they’re all so disgusting it turned me off from eating out. If it’s not rats, it’s roaches, if it’s not roaches it’s gnats and flies all over the food and if not rodents/ pests it’s just lack of sanitary measures🤢. Just in the past few weeks I tried eating out again and immediately got severe food poisoning. These places are NASTY do yourself a favor and cook for yourself, trust

So true, I only eat subway because I can see it being made literally before my eyes and it’s not heated.
@@Kai-fo4dn Aww!! Thank you! That’s so sweet💗
Grocery stores are not immune to rats and bugs either.
Lol, i lived off fast food during the lockdowns... would eat out about 3 times a week. I go to a sit down restaurant once they open... bam. Food poisoning. FML xD
As a pest control technician. I can immediately say it was negligence on the restuarant side.
No restaurants, no buffets, no fast foods, and no gas station foods... I've learned a whole new aspect of health and wellness
I’ve worked at a few restaurants and NEVER have I seen a rat. Grateful. Tighten the belt on food handler cards, surprise UNANNOUNCED health inspections and I think EVERY business that wants to make money, will comply. It’s not rocket science to stay clean and pest free.
Me too. I worked in fast food for almost 30 years. and I've never seen mice or rats. I always checked my breads and my meat to make sure that there are no holes or any type of dropping near by. In every restaurant I worked at. we always had pest control come out and they had boxes, that they put all around the store.
Well, at least at the fast food restaurant I worked at does not have rats. The kitchen need to be clean every morning.
It is a huge stress when there is only three employees.
As former worker in the culinary industry, I have seen it first hand. I was told by my boss not to say anything or I would be fired. I quit a month later. It has now been over a decade since I have worked in a fast food or High end kitchen.
Omg, I wish you did something about it! Honestly your ex-boss should be fired 🤦🏽♀️
@@zazaa.444 I went to public health, where they conduct inspections and the place got shut down. It was for the best. I don't know if people like bugs with their meal. Consider teaming up with a single person that you trust + be a good manager / server and just start a small business related to food. You could even just do a food truck if a restaurant is too much for you right now.
I know this sounds like boomer talk, but if you keep your morals and values and persevere, who knows, you could be owner of a big food chain in 2040~2050 or even less.
@@zazaa.444 To be honest, a lot of workers are scared to report any thing to their boss and/or manager all from the fear of being reprimanded or fired. It's not right either for employees to be scared to report any thing to their employer.
i've worked for private catering companies and family owned diners and also widely known chains, and I'll just say that in my experience, if there's a restaurant, there's mice/rats.
You'll have pests if you deal with food. Its how they deal with it when it happens. Just keep the place as clean as possible and store food property.
Don't forget the roaches
I'm glad that the McDonald's I worked at actually had us clean and scrub everything every night. We hated doing it because it was a lot more work but we still had to do it. It was actually pretty clean there always. They told us if we had nothing else to do we could always clean something

I’ve been working at McDonald’s for seven months so far and I haven’t seen anything like this. Our managers make sure that we clean at least every hour. Like if it’s not busy, we take the time to sweep, mop, and wipe things down. I would say that it just depends on the negligence of certain employees to keep the establishment clean

Yes.
I love how shes talking about the rodents as if their criminal master minds
They are lol

I've usually been to restaurants that are well kept clean and rodent free. So when my Mother-in-law squealed in side an IHOP because there was a roach chilling on the wall beside me, and the manager stood on my seat to squish it right above our food... I was shook.
I would have left. The meal needed to be compted because I would have ruined my appetite.

I remember having small Cafe field trips back then, and since we live in a poor place there was quite alot of trash around the heart of the city. The only way you know a restaurant is good at cleaning is when they hire someone with a cleaning obsession
Sorry but having rodents in your shop is like having a leaky roof. You don't know you have a problem until it rains.
The owners of the restaurant knew what was going on in this place. Most all restaurants do this. They don't worry about cleanliness until time for enspection.
I worked at taco bell, and we always had critters coming in constantly because people insisted on keeping the drivethru door open
well the rats seem like they were having fun running around the restaurant’s floor

Guess I'm happy I don't eat at any of those places. Rats are so easy to get rid of. There's no excuse v🤬
