A few months ago I had to be sent to the ER as a result of pancreatitis stemming from my alcoholism. It was bar none the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. They gave me a shit ton of Dilaudid which I didn't even know was legal in NY. I can't imagine the agony of pancreatitis along with 8 pounds of ground beef fighting your insides. Good Lord. (47 days sober today though, never letting that happen again. Drinking isn't worth going thru that again 😭)
Edit: I love how people are getting personally offended by me thinking they don't give people Dilaudid anymore 🤣
Yeah pancreatitis blows. Shit is not fun. Also good on you for being sober. A while ago I had a problem when I was in the army. Once I got out I I didn’t really make a conscious decision to stop I kinda just did
Good job on 47. Keep going!
This is crazy. I'm on my way to visit my best friend in the hospital at the moment, he went in for pancreatitis among other things, cause he is an alcoholic. The Dr said his pancreas is eating itself at the moment, kidneys were shutting down and they put a stent in and got out black sludge from his kidney. He can't eat or even drink water. They thought maybe he had pancreatic cancer but it was a cyst like he had had before. Only 51 years, crazy how bad alcohol is for you. My friend probably won't make it home, least not any time soon. My uncle actually quit drinking after pancreatitis cause like you he said it was the worst pain ever.
Well done!
Wow, I didn’t know alcoholism could cause pancreatitis. I probably ought to decrease my intake 😱

I've started doing the "Presenting to the emergency room" hand motion in-time with when you do it
honestly this has just made me realise that if you ever make a food challenge at a restaurant you should probably consult a doctor to make sure it isn't potentially deadly first
That'd be really hard to quantify. Like he said in the video, we really only have 1 study (with only 2 participants) that shows the effects of competitive eating on the body. And what might be deadly for one person might not be deadly for another. With GF, he said he couldn't remember if he even chewed every bite. He might not have been so severely affected had he chewed more. Likewise if he'd slowed down a bit. Or if he'd done as a normal person and simply failed to finish.
I think really the only advice that can be given is that competitive eating is ill adviced. GF is an example of an extreme, acute example. But the long term effects on someone who never had such a dramatic event could still be serious later in life.

Something like this happened to my dad. 'All you can eat steak' was something he took as a challenge. Except, when he got to the ER they did imaging and decided the big bulge in his GI tract was a fatal cancer. They were about to operate, but his potassium and magnesium levels were too low, so they gave him an IV with both and waited until his electrolytes were healthier .... and that night, 'a fart the lord and his dead relatives had to hear' was followed by 'the biggest poop ya ever saw' (as reported by my step mom). Next day he was stable, and they opened him up, ran his entire GI tract, and found zero evidence of the great big lump of fatal cancer the ER reported. Boy, talk about embarrassing.
Glad he was okay!

It’d be interesting to see if competitive eating has any long term affect on feeling full. I wouldn’t expect too much of an impact, depending on the food, since the stretching of your stomach is just one of several feedback mechanisms. It seems to me more like a fallback that only kicks in when eating low satiety food (stuff like bread and pasta), with healthy food the other mechanisms stop me eating well before my stomach is at its limit, but who knows?
It would be interesting to see the resultant poo.

I'm glad this guy made a full recovery. I was actually feeling pretty bad for him. Yeah, he did it to himself but It was also just a normal guy who apparently loved hamburgers, impulsively took a challenge he wasn't ready for caved to the peer pressure of the other restaurant patrons and ended up getting in way over his head.
GugaFoods also did an outstanding job creating empathy for GF.
@CaptOrbit, yea I felt the same that he wasn't doing something like "tryna eat 20 Tide Pods coz Tik-Tok 'friends' dared him."😐But I wondered about these "professional eaters" Dr. Bernard referenced. Aside from the possibility of internal organ damage/perforation etc., my concern was the amount of the ingredients in these foods being dumped into the body. We know the estimated "RDV" for things like cholesterol, sodium, fats and proteins etc. I could not believe someone could eat almost 80 hot dogs bun and all. In one hot dog you may have 200-500mg of sodium. Now if we took the low end 200mg in 76 hot dogs that's 15,200mg of sodium, that's like 10 times what the Institute of Medicine recommends daily and they consumed it in 10 minutes.
Then let's consider say 2,280mg of cholesterol at say 30mg each hot dog, some may be more or less. For the average meals I consume, that would be ~152 meals worth of cholesterol or almost 2 months worth of food in "10 minutes." This is insanity. I can't believe people can dump this much fat, cholesterol, sodium etc., into their bodies with seemingly limited effects.
Even the FACTOR meal that Dr. Bernard held up seemed pretty high in these things, 750 calories, 56g fat, almost 900mg sodium and almost 200mg cholesterol, still less than fast food.
I remember many years ago a radio station did a water drinking contest, and whoever 'wee'd' last would win a Wii.
Consuming excessive amounts of ANYTHING is very risky. This should be common knowledge by now.

I had done, and won, eating competitions previously, but never with such a disgustingly dry burger. I had a hard time breathing and the pressure went all the way down to my naughty bits. To add injury to insult, I had to walk a quarter mile back to my motorcycle and drive the 6 miles home on bumpy back roads.
I used to frequently gorge myself, and had trained for the competition by chugging gallons of water. But, nothing prepared me for terrible cooking. After that, I rarely over eat, eat better in general, and subsequently went from 340 lbs to my current 280.

Yeah people seem to not understand that competitive eaters train to do this and they have a system, that’s why it was mentioned that he, “didn’t think he needed to pace himself,” when he DEFINITELY did. You can see the women in the hot dog contests dipping the hot dogs in water, it’s ALL about the contest for them.
Some of competitive eaters have very high body metabolism. so even they eat tons of food, sometimes they didn't gaining weight even just for 100grams.
Love the colab
Guga is such a great actor 👏🤣 glad to see Guga flatulate and make a full recovery as well.
The sheer dedication it takes to eat 8 pounds of pure beef is admirable. I don’t wether to be concerned or amazed
Both. Probably both.
Lol, I found it both very concerning and amazing
Tide pod anyone?
As for me, I choose terror
Look up beardmeatsfood
I love the way he's so respectful and non-judgmental of competitive eating. The way he shows respect makes me respect him. That's a quality I can cultivate too;-)
Props to guga foods for playing along with this recreation. I just imagine the pitch being "hey want to pretend to be a guy who eats a burger so big he almost dies?"
'GF is a 40 year old man'
I see, the discord experience!
I was put on ozempic a few years ago. At first it was great! It controlled my blood sugar levels so well that I was able to completely stop one medication, scale back my insulin use to only 6 units, and eat almost normally, without the typical sugar restriction and calorie counting that go into life as a diabetic. I even lost 50 pounds, without even really trying.
Then I began to have frequent, then constant severe nausea. I ended up in the ER again and again with dehydration, acidosis, and nausea so severe that I couldn’t even keep water down. After months of this, I finally figured out that it was the ozempic.
I’ve now been off it for three weeks and the nausea is almost gone. I have only used one dose of the prescription anti nausea medication I was given in the past 2 weeks, when I was having to take it 2-3 times a day before.
Gastroparesis is no joke. It totally derailed my life for too long.
I had the same reaction to Ozempic; it was horrible. My Dr switched me to Mounjaro. Day & night, the Mounjaro keeps my blood sugar well controlled without the constant nausea & misery. Now it’s out of stock some fairly often because so many are using it for weight loss
@@LaurieAnnCurry I’m going to ask about other meds in the same drug family next doc appointment, because I’m having a hard time regulating my blood sugar levels right now. And the weight is starting to creep back up now that I no longer need to upchuck every few minutes! So glad it worked for you! Encouraging!
OOooOOOzeeeempic OOoOohhOoooh!!!
Semaglutides scare me. Slowing your stomach and GI tract to that degree, constantly, can't be good for anyone
@@BliTzeDGames I’m starting to regain some since I’ve been off the Ozempic. I’m ravenously hungry all the time since I’ve stopped taking it.
Normally, overeating usually lead to vomiting, because our stomach can't digest that much if it's too full for a stomach to handle, thus, sending half of the food back up through vomiting, and other half to digest the remaining
I'm glad it ended well for GF. I will not being attempting any eating challenges, but will let myself enjoy a buffet here and there.
Pretty cool when you see 2 youtubers you watch independently, collaborate. This was a fun one. Glad the patient recovered.
Angel is next, doubt he will be so lucky...
@@crazyfingers619Who's Angel? Hell, who's this "Guga" guy everyone's talking about in the comments?
@@Psythikguga is a chef who specializes in meat
@@Psythik They explained that in the video. The patient in the video, GF, is Guga, of the channel Guga Foods. Wonder if he was speaking personally or just in-character in the pinned comment above when he said he was glad to get that burger out!
I used to do competitive eating challenges in my friend group. I think what helped is that in 2012, I had a boss who would sometimes pay me to eat. He'd order from local catering companies for big events and only 1/3 of the food would get eaten by the end of the celebration, so he'd pay me to spend my entire next shift in the break room eating leftovers.
My baba did the same, sort of. I'm from a Ukrainian Canadian background and at family events I'd eat 3 plates, say I'm full, and ask to sit down. Then, my Baba would prepare one more giant plate and tell me that once I finished this one, I could sit down.
At the time that I did these challenges, I was frequently watching Matt Stonie and learning from his techniques, also I'm just a big guy, 6'5 270 lbs athletic.
Ha! I was reading thus thinking thinking, "Holy shit, how is this guy not way overweight? Maybe he works out like a madman?" Nope, just the size of NFL linebacker. That helps!
@@joelhague5515 I actually spent 23 years around 500lbs. Then I lost weight, lol.
@@iainronald4217 ah, makes sense considering what must have been an absolutely mammoth caloric intake.
Never in a billion years did I imagine this Collab happening! But I am so happy that it did! 😭❤️
"Anything that came up, he would just push back down."😂😅
What a legend.
Poor guy probably wouldn't have got into that mess without the peer pressure at the restaurant. The description of the release of gas, the 2 minute fart as part of a happy ending was perfect. 😂
Idk this one seemed pretty self motivated - they even mentioned that the chef was hesitant to even cook it
It seems he was the one who was Insistent and determined to do it, despite the chefs hesitation
I don't think there was some big competitive eating event, more like a general challenge in the restaurant that's up for anyone to try whenever
If so then there's even less outside pressure
I don't think this is really a case of peer pressure, but a case of classic human overconfidence, likely followed by stubbornness and pride
@@beththegreen Previous challengers failed and bopped out after 2-3 bites. I think the chef just didn’t want to waste food.
Only seeking attention
Should have won a long ass fart award too 😂🤣🤣🤣
Still his decision to do a foolish thing just to have his picture on a wall and a "free" burger. The cost of his hospital stay and all the treatments received, which most health insurances would never cover, far outweighed the "free" burger's sole benefit.
After watching a number of these videos, it makes me wonder why people working in an ER don't start asking "Have you done anything stupid or inadvisable in consuming food or medications?" Seems like that could help the medical professionals out a great bit. Also: DON'T DO ANYTHING STUPID OR INADVISABLE IN CONSUMING FOOD OR MEDICATION!
people do hide information so if they asked that, the patient can get nervous or shy telling them what actually happened
They usually ask if a patient is on any medications, and when/what their last meal was.
@@macstevinsthat's why I say the most important piece of advance to ever come out of the hellhole that is tumblr is the post
"life advice for teens:
Tell the cops nothing
Tell the paramedics everything
Your looks are fine"
That's a non professional way of speaking and it makes the patient hesitant of providing more info
Being a doctor, the question that have you done anything that you shouldn't have done or is there anything you want to tell us, is my last question, when I don't get any satisfactory answer justifying the condition of the patient..
No way he used the "its enough talking" phase 😂😂😂❤ lovin this
