Met Raven in 2003 when I worked indies. A lot of people bought into the reputation that he was a dick. He was never rude, mean, difficult, and he never insulted anyone. He simply knew how to handle himself on the indy scene- get your money upfront, don't do something that's gonna get you injured, and know you're the one drawing money- not some local guy who nobody ever heard of.
Me, and another worker picked him up at the airport in a rental. We got 10 miles down the road and he said we needed to get a different vehicle- his back was in a lot of pain. We turned around, traded for a minivan, which was better for everyone. From then on, any time I got a rental, I got a minivan. But, the other guy I was with thought Raven was being a prick for wanting something with adequate room. So yeah, his bad reputation is undeserved I think.

This is the 2nd Raven interview I've watched recently, and he seems like such a great positivr person. He's so (sometimes comically) honest about his life and career. And he never speaks negatively about anyone. Even people who he knew or thought didn't like him, he would have something positive to say about them. He's a great story teller and awesome memory recall. A true veteran of the sport with such an iconic character.

Too bad his United States title run was so short, literally a day. He brought the best out of Goldberg. He wasn’t necessarily wasted in WCW, but I always thought of what if you drop the Raven character mid 96 through 1997 WWF. Def IC champ material, and at the time the product was becoming more edgier.
Imagine the matches vs Austin, HBK, Hart etc. who are around his size, and Undertaker and Mankind. Just crazy possibilities

Your comparing jake Roberts to this genius?

THE SUMMER CAMP STORYLINE WITH BEULAH, AND TOMMY DREAMER AND RAVEN WAS A GREAT ANGLE // ALSO THE STORYLINE WITH SANDMAN VS. RAVEN AND RAVEN TURNS SANDMAN'S SON AGAINST HIM AND BECOMES A RAVEN FAN, ALL THE STORYLINES WERE GREAT IN ECW, BEST FEDERATION, EVEN IF JIM CORNETTE SAYS OTHERWISE....

Agree!! I love Cornette and could listen to him talk wrestling for hours on end but his opinion of ECW was always very old timer-ish to me. I mean come on Corny, u booked for Smokey Mountain and OVW and u got a bad opinion of ECW? 😂

These shoot interviews won’t exist with current gen wrestlers. Or at least will fail the test of time. We all know the Internet killed the business. Scripting promos and going PG killed the business as well. It’s so boring today. People just want to hear about the good ol days of wrestling from legends like Raven ✊
