Abbadon is like someone who watched his father figure fall to alcoholism which resulted in him swearing off alcohol for life while he simultaneously opened an Everclear distillery.

So, from what I understand, the 13th Black Crusade was originally a campaign ppl actually played, and Chaos actually lost hard. So to keep that up, they let the Imperium "win" both the space battles and ground war, and had Abby forced to sacrifice an irreplaceable superweapon to literally rip the galaxy a new one
From what I remember Chaos won the ground war pretty convincingly. However the space battles were determined by Battlefleet Gothic (not the video game). Which was won by the Imperium. So you ended up with Chaos winning a world, but losing the battle in orbit and having no access to fresh fighters.
Ah yes, the Blackstone Fortress.... Such a powerful superweapon that Abby decided to just yeet it into the planet like an Ork landing craft.
Makes you wonder what might happen if he tried using it *as intended....*
I started playing the Gaurd then. I remember Chaos won the ground but Imperials just murdered in spaced.

My idea for an Alpha Legion video:
Isyander and Koda sit in each others seats. The camera is upside down. The video plays in reverse. The background items have been shuffled around.
As they walk through the episode, Koda reads out all the lore while Isyander asks questions. Every character in the Alpha Legion is referred to as Alpharius.
And release it on whatever the opposite of a Sunday is

To Koda, Abaddon is really genuinely likeable on the Talon of Horus and Black Legion series. It opens one's eye so much to what it's like to be living in the eye of terror too.
That series rocketed Abaddon from a meh minor guy to one of my favorite charachters
Him just wanting to be done with it all and then sighing and accepting the burden of leadership because all these other chaos marines are tired of killing each other and he's one of the few people left that they respect is peak

I want an Abbadon game where it’s like a fucked up version of a dating sim of where you gotta keep like a dozen different factions in line and each one has some very distinct and unique needs that all have to be fulfilled, and some of them are contradictory and some of them change. You gotta balance keeping everyone in line and not killing each other, while also trying to fight a whole bunch of wars.
Horus did it in one because he had a whole army that took orders and followed them for most of it, powers beyond what everyone else had, either technologically equivalence or superiority, and the element of surprise. Abbadon has none of that and is still clawing out wins.
Also Tau Crisis suits. The Dark Eldar can stay in the losers bracket.

Any episode is an episode about the Alpha Legjon if you really think about it.
If you expect the Alpha Legion, it's only because it's part if their plan. Next thing you know even if there us an episode dedicated to them, there would be a subliminal message and a trigger word in the end that would make you forget the whole thing. You'd remember that such episode has already been posted, but you won't remember what it was about, and when you come back to check it, it's already deleted.
They did a great job fleshing out Abadon in the Siege of terra and horus heresy books
Really? I‘m into book 42 and Abbadon didn‘t do much of anything, besides being a dick to Loken. But maybe Siege of Terra shows more
What's funny is that Abaddon's not been failing. From the _very first Chaos codex_ it's been shown that he's been up to sometime. Second edition mentioned what each Black Crusade did, and it's been touched on here in there in a scattering of supplements.
The problem is that since GW never really referenced to these properly, players had no idea of the original lore, so people thought they pulled a retcon with the 13th.
The memes had overtaken reality, to the point where it felt like an asspull. 😂

Hard retcon: Changing lore and contradicting it, not trying to justify it in-universe. It's never addressed or acknowledged. See: the Primarchs.
Soft retcon: Changing lore and using an in-universe reason to justify it without contradicting it. See: the squats.
What's happening with Abaddon is neither of those-it's just a standard storytelling technique. It doesn't change or contradict anything, it just uses existing story hooks.

It is a fact that GW does not make long-term narrative plans.
It's one thing to iron out the details as you go, but another to make gigantic narrative altering decisions on the fly the way they do.

That moment in the End and the Death where Garviel meets Abaddon again is even more tragic, because Garviel offers to go with Abaddon and act as a messenger should he ever change his mind and open negotiations with the Imperium, and Abaddon dismisses the idea out of hand, *but agrees to let him come along anyway*. Their brotherhood nearly survived the Heresy, but Erebus couldn't let Abaddon leave the back door open.

Abaddon and Guilliman are ironically in a very similar boat. If they want anything done right, they need to micromanage the ever loving crap out everything within a 30 mile radius and hope someone is actually paying enough attention to get the duct tape out to start sticking things together.

All in all they have to do bad things to keep themselves alive. The pain literally makes them look younger and gives them energy. If they don't they wither away and become husks, slaanesh comes to eat their soul when they die. When they get eaten by the dark prince they will have bad things happen to them for all eternity. The evilness of the faction comes mainly from that is how they live and their bodies feed off of it like food and water.
Some of the oldest I believe are just straight up evil and did this before the birth of slaanesh.
A Hades style game featuring Abbadon feels like it would fit better as you can then have the chaos gods and the booba they offer be a central mechanic and trying to balance them and their favor

GW didn't decide what exactly that scheme was until the 13th Black Crusade came out, but the pieces have always been there.
I'm not exactly very familiar with 13th black crusade lore, so enlighten me about this:
Does the lore actually refer back to what Abbadon did during the previous crusades he did? Like maybe he attacked here during crusade xth to gain X which is now is used to power Y, which he excavated during crusade xxth, and so on?
Or is it just a simple saying, all the previous crusades were meant to achieve this 13th one! without actually explaining properly how exactly it works?
@@spearsageyes and no from what I recall. It’s always been implied that the Black Crusades where not just “attack the imperium.” Campaign and might have been to cover some hidden objectives Abaddon had, but it was never covered that well.

@@spearsage a lot of it was him destroying Blackstone pylons all in a gigantic gamble for them to weaken their hold on the immaterium to have cadia be the nail in the coffin on the 13th and split the galaxy allowing chaos to bleed thru a lot easier. But it also had the effect of making psykers way stronger and librarians also stronger and it is the reason why the emperor is now stirring on The Golden throne
Episode 6 of fortifying for the imperial fists. Enemies have been pushed back from our outer trenches by artillery. Also I vote for the high lords of Terra.

Its revealed that hours maddess and unstable ness was a ruse the truth is his judgement was loaded by power but he was incontrol and planned the emperors attack making intrequet counter plans to him.
I love that we found out that the one fundamental thing we held as fact-that Horus had his soul obliterated-ended up being a lie.
Such an incredible plot twist, with such huge implications
