    You already know how to please the Machine Gods at this point so thank you so much. And make your voices heard for which faction you would like to see next!
    -Isyander
    Everything below is for the omnissiah. But like, you can read it if you want. Just a synopsis of the video you're watching.
    In the Warhammer 40k universe, Death Worlds are notorious for their extreme and perilous conditions that push the limits of survival. These planets, scattered across the galaxy, challenge their inhabitants with hostile environments, ranging from lethal predators and poisonous flora to treacherous climates. Such worlds are not only narrative backdrops but pivotal in shaping the indomitable spirits and unique cultures of their people.
    Catachan, often called the "Deadliest Planet" in the Imperium, is covered in dense jungles teeming with monstrous creatures and lethal plants. The Catachan Jungle Fighters, renowned for their guerrilla warfare expertise, are born survivors, hardened by daily perils that would overwhelm any ordinary human. Their skills make them invaluable to the Imperial Guard.
    Fenris, an icy world of harsh winters and savage wildlife, is home to the Space Wolves, one of the most feared chapters of the Adeptus Astartes. The Fenrisians, shaped by their relentless world, embody the ferocity and bravery of wolves, traits celebrated in their Space Marine counterparts.
    Krieg, a toxic nuclear wasteland, offers a different tale of endurance. After a devastating civil war, its inhabitants are forced to live in underground bunkers. The Death Korps of Krieg, grim and unyielding, are the product of this relentless environment, trained from birth to sacrifice all for the Imperium's cause.
    These Death Worlds, while inhospitable, are crucial to the Imperium's defense strategies, often becoming prime recruiting grounds for its military forces. The inhabitants' daily fight for survival equips them with unrivaled resilience and combat prowess, invaluable in the eternal wars of the 41st Millennium.
    Amid the grim expanse of Warhammer 40k's galaxy, Forge Worlds stand as the industrial fortresses of the Imperium, essential for their production of military materiel. Planets like Mars, the center of the Adeptus Mechanicus, and Lucius, famous for its nearly impenetrable defenses, epitomize the union of religious zealotry and technological prowess that defines these specialized worlds. These industrial hubs are critical in supporting not just nearby Death Worlds like Catachan, where the harsh environments breed some of the toughest Imperial soldiers, or the icy world of Fenris, home to the feral Space Wolves, but also the disciplined regiments of Krieg, who endure their own toxic, shell-blasted landscapes. The continued survival and combat readiness of these harsh planetary environments are deeply intertwined with the ceaseless output of war machines and weaponry from the Forge Worlds, showcasing a symbiotic relationship that fuels the ongoing wars of the far future.

    • @blasphemouschaos
      @blasphemouschaos 4 месяца назад +51

      I mean, would we really call it "mildly obscure" considering the player base is quickly overcoming D&D in estimated population? Like, that's the gold standard of geekdom, and 40K is rapidly gaining ground on it.

      @@blasphemouschaoswhat’s the sauce on this?
      I’d wager that most people who watch videos like this don’t even play the game…I don’t think views on lore videos correlates to player numbers. D&D is SO much more accessible to actually play, and is so adaptable that it can be what ever you want it to be…whereas even your head cannon 40k factions are still fighting sci-fi battles in space.
      I don’t wanna just outright call bullshit…but this factoid sure seems smelly at first glance. I’d be interested to see where you pulled this from, and just how butt shaped that location is.

      @@blasphemouschaosI generally see obscurity as how well something is known by non-fans/the general public.any nerd, geek, or gamer worth their salt is at least aware of 40k so it's absolutely not "Truly Obscure", but my grandma has a SIGNIFICANTLY higher chance of knowing what D&D is than even having heard the words "warhammer 40k". Basically if something hasn't yet broken into mainstream consciousness at all I consider it at least a little obscure.

      @SerasXHarkonnen 4 месяца назад +14

      @@LexYeenThere's a suggestion that some of Catachan's wildlife, such as the Catachan Devil, is of Tyranid origin. My theory is that a Tyranid scout ship happened upon Catachan a very long time ago and it did the thing it usually does, sends Tyranid genetic material to the planet to corrupt existing flora and fauna, which I imagine was already pretty hostile on Catachan but this dialed it up to 11. Thing is the hive fleet never came and so life on Catachan evolved independently, perhaps forming a broodmind that was quite primitive because there weren't any highly intelligent Tyranids around, this could be why the planet will unite to turn on any foreign lifeforms, they have some level of psychic connection. Anyway when the Tyranids show up eventually, the creatures of Catachan don't recognize them as allies because they've been separated for such a long time and both evolved separately, plus Catachan creatures are more hybrids rather than full Tyranids, and so Catachan sees them as foreign invaders and does what it does. The Tyranids for their part try to do the thing they do by spreading their genetic material to corrupt the flora and fauna but, seeing as how the existing flora and fauna have already evolved from Tyranid genetic material, this either does not affect them or it's actively rejected by the creatures of Catachan who would have some form of controlled evolution like Tyranids have. So then when Tyranids invade, they're effectively fighting other Tyranids that are a bit different based on the genetic material that adapted and evolved with, and perhaps Catachan has some pretty tough things before anyway so they just end up outclassing the invasion. Tyranids can adapt genetic material from those they kill, but can they adapt material from another form of Tyranid that doesn't want them to? Maybe not, maybe that's why they can't adapt to Catachan. This is all just an idea but I like the idea of Catachan resisting the Tyranids cuz the world is basically just one independent Tyranid entity in its own right.

    As an Australian I love that we're just a death world to you guys. I mean I get it, between the harsh environment in most of the country, drop bears, and all the poisonous stuff we have, it makes a lot of sense.
    As far as the gun situation, yes we had a big gun buy back and heavily increased gun restrictions after the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, way after the Emu War which was in 1932, and it's hard to get guns in the city but if you're a farmer it's pretty easy to get a rifle. You aren't going to get anything crazy like an assault rifle, but hunting rifles are common and often essential.
    As far as the Emu war, yes Emu's are native, farming however, is not. There's a reason indigenous Australians didn't have much in the way of farming, it's because the wildlife here doesn't play to well with it, you don't have any "beasts of burden" cuz our largest native animals don't play ball like that, and those same animals are generally herbivores who, like the emu's did, just decimate farm land. There are other factors too but that is one large reason for a lack of farming before colonisation. We had guns and we still lost the Emu War, which yes, we sent in the army so it was a legit conflict, if that gives you any idea how resilient our wildlife can be.
    Also, yes the emu's weren't belligerent, the same cannot be said of cassowaries, largest omnivorous bird in the world and often titled as the most dangerous bird in the world. One dies not simply fuck with a cassowary.

    • @LilFeralGangrel

      Except there's plenty of evidence that Australians Aboriginals had agriculture. It's more likely that they their own ways of dealing with Emus and might have hunted them for food as well.

    • @SerasXHarkonnen
      @SerasXHarkonnen 2 месяца назад +1

      @@LilFeralGangrel There was agriculture in some areas but it was limited, you don't see the same level of widespread agriculture that you could find in other parts of the world for the reasons I mentioned. As far as emus go, the issue came about because they were destroying agricultural land that was cultivated in areas there previously wasn't agricultural land, so there wasn't a problem until westerners came and effectively created one by changing the ecosystem of the area to farm.

      Coming from rural Texas in the US, I feel like I can relate in some ways. I live in a different state and still shake my clothes for critters. I still check with a mirror, light and stick before grabbing things from normally undisturbed places. Crazy folks with guns are way more dangerous than the critters. Lots of druggies go out to the sticks to avoid the police. Humans are the most dangerous beings.
      The heat still kills some folks in the summer. Dont get me started on the politics.
      Lots of things make you miserable like ticks, chiggers, fire ants and such.
      Still doesn't go as hard as some places I hear in Australia. I got to visit the Equadorian Amazon on cultural exchange. They check thier clothes and boots for critters too.
      Still usually it's folks who don't understand and respect the local environment that are most likely to get hurt.
      I enjoyed your comment.

    Spiders the size of your fist, or dinner plate for that matter, are good. They trap and kill pests and aren't poisonous.
    It's the small poisonous ones that can kill you. They aren't allowed in the house.

    • @Santisima_Trinidad
      @Santisima_Trinidad 4 месяца назад +3

      I mean, spiders the size of your fist do leave rather large wounds when they bite you, which can get infected and fester pretty easily, but yeah, usually a lot less venomous than the smaller cousin's.
      Course, then you get to the really small spiders which have fangs and venom glands too small to penetrate your skin and deliver enough venom to have any significant effect at all.

    I would like to give a minor correction to Koda regarding the the task force they sent after the emus. It was three guys and a army surplus jeep, with a single maxim machine gun chambered in .303 British. While the machine gun was effective for a few, many would have already scattered or simply tanked the .303, because giant karking bird in Australia. They were largely unsuccessful in thinning the population of terror birds and the emu remains a pain to those living in the outback.

As to keeping a tyrannosaurus fed while it would be difficult for it to survive in the U.S. One would likely thrive in Africa, or Aisa. One of my favourite Death Worlds is Atonement, because it's so unique. No centipedes the size of freight trains, no continent shattering earthquakes, no failed space marines lurking and marauding, no dinosaurs (funnily enough that planet with the dinosaurs is literally called "Cretatia"). Just extremely high levels of Cadmium in everything, which is incredibly toxic. The air, soil, plants and wildlife are just full of Cadmium so humans can't settle. In all other ways it's great, lush forests, beautiful vistas - it's just everything's chemical composition was designed to kill people.
    As for the Dune world that was mentioned, I think it's Belisarius IV? and the planet with 2 of every deadly creature is called Indiga, for those who want to search it up for themselves.

    I learned this a little bit ago: a bolter round is .75 calibers. A 12 gauge shotgun shell is .74 caliber. So you can bring out a shotgun shell and say it's a bolter round quite easily. Except for not being a gyrojet, but who cares.
    The "monster can" size is based on measuring the models guns and scaling it up 1:1, which isn't necessarily the most accurate as the models are designed to look good more than be perfectly lore accurate.

    Due to horrible housing market policies in the 60's-80's, urban sprawl has left the (conveniently avoidable) core of Milwaukee as little more than a rotting derelict. My friends and I jokingly refer to it as "Milwaukistan."
