Fantastic review! I’ve been driving Porsches for 40+ years as my daily drivers and all of them have been base models! They give me everything I want in a sports car that is useable every day.
@@itguru2037 I also went for the base model, but I did go for a fairly lengthy, carefully chosen list of options. Owning a 911 has been a 40 year dream for me. I finally made it, and don’t ever plan on selling this car, it is a base 991.2. I use it as a daily driver and regularly undertake 1000mile days. It is the most capable, most exciting vehicle I have ever owned.
Excellent review. I just LOVE sorting through the comments and picking out the Magazine Cowboys…. “You can’t get a wizmalink option on a base.” “I’d never drive anything without a 12 speed manual.” “I just ordered a 2026.” Ah, the trailer park is rock’in today !!!
Great review. I have a 997 gen 2 base Carrera, albeit with a good few optional extras. I do agree, the base is more than enough car for most people and shouldn't be overlooked. It's plenty fast enough with 345bhp for the road, never mind a 385bhp version with more torque that you tested. I would say though Porsche should make a sports exhaust and sports chrono standard on all cars nowadays.
The 'base' 992.1 Carrera is so good. In some ways it is the best in the entire line-up. Get it without the sports exhaust, it sounds wonderful. Less really is more. The S is also really good. I do think the 992.2 Turbo S will be really good as well, but I might have delete PDCC
As you say why would you want more ; i mean just over 4 secods to 60 & over 180 mph top speed, comfortable seats leather interior, sports mode, good size front boot, the list goes on ; It is lovely count me in !!! Only problem i don't have 90k 😢
I own a good spec base model in Agate grey , the S is no good as a daily in the UK it will end up in a ditch when it’s wet or greasy , the power delivery of the base model is good for year round use 👍 great review
Great review - I've ordered a base 911 Carrera which will be a 992.2 with delivery in 2024. Don't yet know what the new models will be like, how many will be hybrids etc. Very good point about the steering wheel being the touch point of the car. Was considering and drove a Tacan but feel a 911 is the better option as more and more cars become electric, unfortunately the UK just doesn't have the infrastructure with many public chargers aways broken and costing practically as much a petrol. Currently have a Tesla Model 3 and even the Supercharging network is now not an incentive as it's opened up to other brands - too many Audis and BMWs parking poorly meaning you can't access the chargers. I don't have kids, just my girlfriend and a dog will be in the car so I feel a 911 is perfect. Previously had 2 Caymans and a Cayenne so I'm also familiar with the sort of space Porsches offer.
Thanks 🙏 Glad you enjoyed it. The Carrera 992.2 should be awesome if it takes all the knowledge and development since the 992.1 (Carrera T and upcoming ST). Congrats on your 911 when it comes. Check out my review of the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo if you have time 👍
Just took delivery of my nicely optioned C2, on Sunday. I’ve been driving a 2017 Macan S I bought new and an older BMW 330i. Before I get into the car, please pay attention to the dealer. They can help make or break your experience. We only have 2 here in Oregon……my C2 was handled by Sunset Beaverton…..and it was seamless. We won’t waste time with the other. In the short time I’ve had the C2, it has surpassed my expectations in every category. The 3 year wait allowed me plenty of time to hone my options……and I started the process looking at a 2021…..and ended up with a 2023….perfect ! A knowledgeable brand ambassador is essential as they can guide you to options that will make your car yours….and not overextend into Turbo-Land. There are a couple of options I would really encourage and the extended range fuel tank is number 1 ! It will give you about 23 gallons of fuel as opposed to about 16……and that translates into some incredible range between fuel stops. And in second place I would suggest getting the Sport Chrono. I think the first thing that comes to mind is someone that is going to race their car. In reality, it allows a much wider, easier to access vehicle control options. Very much worth the price. And one more to really consider…..the adaptive cruise control. It will be a godsend should you get in heavy or stop and go traffic. I got 14 way seats because of the addition of extending bolsters. You must have 14 or 18 way to get that feature. I think there are other seats that might make you just as comfortable. I did juice it up with beige interior ( Agate Grey exterior ) yellow seat belts and yellow tach ring. Gorgeous !! Those were the major ones that I really encourage you to look at…. And when you begin to put the first miles on your car, your will no longer wonder why Porsche people become so loyal to the brand…..you have just entered an entirely new level of transportation.
Im ordering my 911 this weekend after having reserved a build slot early in the year. Finaly my slot is here. Im ordering a S rwd. Why S? Because i want a manual and Porsche force you into the S. Thats their fault not mine. Id have considered a standard 911 if i could get it w/ the gate.
Wow! Congratulations. Sounds like the S is the right choice for you. Perhaps the manual will become available later in the 992's life as someone else has said on here. Did you get the sport exhaust? What colour did you go for?
You can't get the sport suspension on the base. That's the show stopper for me. I would probably find the the standard suspension too soft, and wouldn't want to go aftermarket on a brand new in-warranty car. So, yeah, they are probably priming the market for the T.
Wow! What a great pair to have to choose from. Both great cars, either will be the right choice. With the Carrera being a bit more practical, a tiny bit better for everyday use, and it’s a 911. But the 718 GTS has that engine and feels more the enthusiast’s car. Congrats 👏. Glad you liked the review, many thanks 🙏 👍
Nice video! Unfortunately for us who desire(d) a manual, we were forced to step into an S to achieve that. I would’ve been fine with a regular Carrera with the manual option, but alas, my S will be here in December.
Now that is what I call a fantastic "Real World" review. The base car is all I would ever need, thank you for reinforcing that thought process. Now the only question is base 911 or nicely specced Cayman or Boxster :)
Thanks 🙏 Glad you enjoyed it 👍. I’ve only driven the 996 Carrera 4S, but it was very sure footed. I’d say it depends on how bad you’re winters get. For the UK, the Carrera 2 is fine, but if I lived in Austria or Colorado I’d be going for the Carrera 4. 👌
I initially spect’d a C4……base with all wheel drive. After almost 3 years on the allocation list, the sales manager took me aside and advised me I would probably NEVER see a C4……he’d only seen 1 in about 4 years. He suggested I switch to either a C2 or C4s. I went with a very nicely optioned C2……and had an allocation in 30 days or so…. On the plus side for 2 vs all wheel…..with 2 wheel you can get the extended range gas tank. ( 23 gal vs 16 ) With all wheel, you cannot get this option. For about $230.00, in was a no brainer ! ( and one of Porsches less expensive options. ) The car has made port in Benicia, Ca……and awaiting a transport to my dealer. I think I’m going to like this one !!!
It's fine if you're know you won't want any of UHT expensive options.... Can you refresh live with a career gives m bones 911? Will you change your mind??😢
I think you will. The PDK is seamless as the paddles give you the best of both, almost. I’ll be driving a manual Carrera T soon so will let you know if after that I couldn’t live without a manual !
Porsche gets so many things right in their designs, but the one area where they fall down is in the front numberplate, which in this model looks like it's been stuck on as an afterthought and not integrated into the front design at all. Some BMW designs are even worse when it comes to this. It's almost like the designers don't take it into account when doing their designs, and when the cars are ready for the real world the numberplate is just stuck on anywhere and looks hideous.
Cheap and accessible everyday car, of course to believe that you're living in la la land. This trim in Australia comes in at 280K, half the price of a house.
Certainly not! I test drove a 992 and could not wait to return it! Next to my AMG GTC, it was a complete bore. I thought the 991.2 T was far more engaging.
I’ve yet to drive the 991.2 T, but I’ve heard great things. I suspect there’s a 992 T in the pipeline. Congrats on the AMG GTC though, sounds awesome 👍
That change about aluminium is not that huge 991 - .2 are also most of aluminium body wise on 992 was only change rear quarter panels from aluminium compare 991 rest is all aluminium on body like on 992. More aluminium was add into frame on 922 is 70% aluminium the rest is steel on 991 is 44% of frame aluminium rest different types of steel so there was biggest change.
Good stuff! Just ordered the base model today. My first 911!
Congratulations! 👍👌

I have base 992 and completely agree with all of your comments, the S is a license killer on U.K. roads.
Stunning car to say it is a basic model, especially in White. Crying out for yellow calipers if I owned it

It has lost the class of the earlier 911s
Audi and New Golf have lost the plot with terrible touchscreen interface, and lower perceived quality touch-points..
