Riding The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad With 476

- On Monday, June 10, 2019, I rode the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Locomotive 476 was the engine chosen to pull our train. 476 put on a great show and the ride was spectacular! What I find amazing is how back in 2015, I went into 476's cab when it was on display not knowing that 4 short years later I would ride behind it. I would never have thought it would have even been restored! Hop on the Silverton Train as it takes us up the Animas Canyon from Durango to Silverton and return!
Disclaimer: I apologize for the long length of the video and the shakiness. I did not want to separate the video into multiple segments because it would not flow well. Since the video is long, I recommend watching it in multiple sittings if you choose to do so. It is hard holding a big DSLR camera with a rocking train and zoomed in far to show things far away, thus causing shaking.

Dadgum! You had me beat to Durango by just a month! I was headed by 476 and 473 myself, and had a great time! I’m glad you got to go too, and see this historic line!
Freedomator this is a great line for sure. glad you got to go as well and had a good time!
I realy enjoyed seeing the 476 engine in motion. Starting and backing up. Great train action. The 476 is one nice looking engine. It has a great engineering design to it. It would be nice if Lionel would add the engine to it's line. Thanks for sharing one great looking engine.
Thank you Nick! I really appreciate it! I agree, 476 is very pretty. ALCO designer it well. I agree. Lionel needs more engines like this. Thanks again!
I didn’t even realize 476 was back! Good video!
BNSFRAILFAN77 came back February 2018. Thank you!
I wish I could go and see this in person. I bet it’s better when u see it for yourself
Ford Lover it really is. The video here doesn’t do justice to how beautiful it really is. You’re limited with only what I showed with the lens and the parts I shot. If I were you, go now, you never know when it might be too late. Especially with the fire, lawsuit, and 493’s conversion to oil. You really don’t know how long you have that it’s like this.
Once again, incredible footage. I really support your and hope you grow to a huge Channel.
Aww thank you so much for the kind words! I thank you for doing that :)
MPT 1225 your very welcome.
Great video of train 🚂👍👍
Ronald Stephens Thank you
I went there when I was younger and remember taking the train from Silverton to Durango, sadly I didn't get to see 476 or 473, but still an amazing ride!
A virtual Railfanner it sure is an awesome ride! Thank you!!
@@MPT_Productions Indeed it is beautiful scenery for perfect photo's I hope to go their again one day!
They also restrict speeds to about 6 MPH on the highland area due to how close to the edge and how much the cars tend to rock when at higher speeds
@@neworleanssaintsfan2903 I hope you get to go back! It is a great place
@@neworleanssaintsfan2903 Yeah I've heard 5-10 is the limit. The only time they go faster is on photo charters on runbys.
Awesome!
Thanks a lot!
Nice footage mark
Thank you very much!
Very nice
SP Productions thank you
Nice!!
Pennsy Productions Thanks man!
Lucky! Awesome foodage!
Roundhouse Warrior Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Your welcome! Also "study hands"
Roundhouse Warrior lol
My dad fired on this back in the 50s he loved that train
That’s awesome
@@MPT_Productions I love just watching these engines and I love listening to the whistles because Dad knew what each one meant it was so ingrained in him what those whistles meant and the lamps that they use those had meaning and you know what I'd like to ask him questions but he's going home to the Lord but it's like oh I love these trains there's just nothing like it
@@goberrich91 glad these bring back good memories and you enjoyed. I’m sure there are trains up in heaven for your dad and for all of us when we get there some day
_hmmm am I watching a RUclips video, or a feature length film................._

What if 168 can visit the Durango and Silverton? I believe it's at the Cumbres and Toltec and was finally back under steam again!
Brian Falzon that could be cool
When I went to Durango two weeks ago I got to see 476 but, I rode behind 473
Max M nice
The song that started at 3:48 made me think of how bad a trumpet player I am, rip.
Jared Axton rip lol
#AWESOME aye I got a question, what kind of camera did you use for the video
Thank you so much! Of course the time I didn’t put what camera I used I get asked lol. I used a Canon EOS 80D with a 18-135mm lens
Noice
cld1522 Thank you :)
I’ll might get me a camera like that when I can afford it, right now I have SONY camera, and I am looking into to find me a stand for my camera
cld1522 I use a magnus VT-350. It’s perfect. Pretty whatever height you want it can go to and when the train goes by the camera won’t shake at all. I think I got a tiny bit of movement on one shot with it. That’s basically it though. It may be good to start with something a little cheaper and work you’re way up. This is one of the best DSLR’s out there from what I’ve read and based on what I’ve seen with this camera I agree, but you don’t have to get a camera as expensive as me. A couple hundred dollar (500-900) won’t be bad either. All up to you, and do the research!
476 was build by ALCO in 1923.
Jack Salvin correct
Mark: "I have really steady hands"

Train Chamber Joe: “I have really good description reading skills” 😆
