- Doing some weaving making some broken twill diamond weave fabri, so I thought I'd make a little video to demonstrate the function and and anatomy of my table loom. It's been about a year since I last used my loom so although I had to shake off some rust, this was a very happy reunion!
I'm using a LeClerc Dorothy 4-shaft table loom manufactured in 1981.
The finished product is at the end. Enjoy!
Music is "That Was the Day" and "Jamie Raeburn" by the New Minstrel Revue, be sure to check them out!
Be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram for more neat stuff.
I just got my first table loom and it is a Leclerc like yours. I am looking forward to starting to practice!
Your video helped me figure out how the pawl and ratchet works on my vintage Dorothy.
I was just gifted this loom and I have absolutely zero experience, so I'll be watching this over and over haha
thank you!! i got this loom as a graduation gift (my family found one on fb marketplace for $25, and my mom is familiar with weaving so she knew what an insane deal that was) but my only experience has been with a single frame warping board type loom that i made myself so all the levers were super intimidating to me, this video gave me a much better idea of how this works :)
Holy cow, that's an even better deal than I got! I'm so glad this helps, there is a lot of great info out there! If you're looking for learning resources, the best I've found are two books: Warp and Weave by Robert LeClerc (same as the loom!), and the Handweaver's Workbook by Heather G Thorpe. With these two books, you'll understand everything in the weaving process, why it works, and what to do with it in the loom you've got! They even have basic patterns to show you the different types of weave, from tabby to broken twill, and how they all differ. I use that part all the time. :)
You can keep up with the pattern repeat is really impressive. I have to use a row of coloured beads to keep up with pattern.
Beautiful
Amazing
Very interesting
i was wondering if you knew why my shafts aren't going up? I have the same loom as you. They seem locked. do you know how to lock/unlock on yours?
Can you share your warping pattern and sequence of weaving?
I don't have a way to share it via RUclips comments, but if you shoot me a message on my Facebook page I would be happy to share :) look for Joke of All Trades on Facebook, same profile picture.
What is the name of the tool that you use to "comb" the warp, to keep it in order?
No fancy name, it's called a weaving comb or a loom comb. Definitely a big help!
where can i get this loom ?
Hi, is this the 15.75" or the 24"? Also... are the releasing of the shaft levers a bit loud?
Hello! This is the 15", and yes they do make a bit of racket-- but honestly I find the click-clack to be satisfying!
Hi, It looks like I have the same loom as you. Mine says "Nilus Leclerc". Do you know where a person can find set by set instructions on how to operate the loom? I've tried looking to see if I could download a manual but had no luck. I was gifted this loom from my brother who purchased it at a garage sale, and I'm totally green but excited to learn how to work it. lol Its obvious I will have to look to see if I can take some sort of course online to better understand it all.
Theres a place called Camilla Valley Farm Weaver's Supply in Ontario that has a bunch of Leclerc loom manuals available for free on their website, including a guide to figure out which you have if you are unsure. Definitely worth checking out!
