  • This video has two parts. In the first one, I introduce you to my new loom, a 4-shaft Dorothy Loom made by Leclerc. This is a table loom that has been converted into a floor loom with some add-on treadles. In the second part of this video, I talk to you about a project that I have undertaking: testing yarns to see which one is the most absorbent. To do so, I wove 8 dishtowels, each with a different weft fiber. #loom #weaving #yarn

    THE PATTERNS
For this project, I designed the warp pattern myself. For the weft pattern, I used the drafts provided in Anne Dixon Book: The Handweaver’s Pattern Directory in between pages 32 to 36. Here’s where you can get this wonderful book in the US: woolery.com/handweavers-patte...

WOW, what a great project. It will be so helpful in choosing future fibers for weaving dishclothes. And by the way, your Mom's quilt is gorgeous. You are such a talented family.

Great to see your new loom in action. What a wonderful loom! I love your dish towels to… it will be interesting to see which is the most absorbent fabric. It was clever of you to go to your mums and let her hem them😂

Thank you so much!! I'm really excited to see the results too ☺️ It was a good exchange of services with my mom: she helped me out hemming and she got 4 new dishtowels 😉

Hey, I think if you unscrew and remove the sectional frames you'll find a regular warp beam under there. You might have to make an apron rod but that can be as simple as a dowel tied on with string

I think you are right 😊 I wish to give sectional beam a real try! But if it's not working out for me, I might just do that! Thank you 😁

The more looms I see, the more I want to build my own custom loom with pedals...

@@garybenson whoo! counterbalance always looked intimidating. I did make what I am calling a 'Flooring loom', I used flooring panels I found In the garage. :). It's becoming a 4 harness, direct tie-up. I just started drilling and boom, a loom.

What’s the verdict: which towels do you like best at this point? I have the same loom-it was my Grammie’s-and I have yet to make something on it. Towels might be a great starting point!

All of them 😅 I made a follow-up video about those towels. As promised, I tried to see which ones are the most absorbent. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/bul7ddrN37M/видео.html
How cool that you have your Grammie's loom 🥰 Anything you would weave on it would surely be awesome!

Do you prefer your Dorothy or Voyageur table loom?

    • @Curly_n_Yarny
      @Curly_n_Yarny  2 года назад

This is a good question 😊
First, I don't own the Voyageur table loom. But it was lent to me for so long that it sure felt like I did😂
Also, I feel like I need to say that I have only used my Dorothy as a floor loom with the add-on treadles. I realised that I prefer weaving on a floor loom than on a table loom. So for that, I prefer the Dorothy loom because it offers the option to transform into a floor loom. I'm not a 100% sure, but I don't think that the Voyageur can do that.
Still, if I were to want only a table loom, I think that I would prefer the Voyageur. The main reason for this is that the handles for the shafts are in front of the loom instead of on the side. I find that it makes it more straight foward to see which handles are pulled and which one need to be pulled next. Also, I feel like it might be more ergonomic having the handles in the front than on the side.
In both cases, I enjoy weaving on them 😊
I hope this helps you! Let me know if you have other questions 😊
