Razer DeathAdder Elite VS Logitech G403 Prodigy

  • Quick comparison between two great mice (and the wireless G403 as well). It really comes down to personal preference and shape... hand size is probably going to play a bigger part because the DeathAdder feels larger.
The good news is that they're so good, you can't go too wrong either way, so maybe check availability and price and let that influence your decision.

For those of you who are deciding which one of these two you prefer, please read my comment.
After using the Razer Mamba (2012) for 4 years, now it has the double click problem. This frustrates me a lot because I strongly believe that I have not used the Mamba that heavily (not like 3 million click I guess). So, I decide to buy a new one today, Logitech G403, which is recommended by Zy on another video -- Top 40 mice of year 2016.
I always like the build quality and durability of Logitech mouse, but I find that the shape of Razer Mamba / Deathadder is more ergonomic, even for a small-handed person like me.
So, if you really have hard time deciding which one to buy. PLEASE make sure that you try both of them before buying. I did not do that and could not do that since the shop I bought Logitech G403 did not provide a sample to test. Now I am regretting a little because I really like a mouse that is more comfortable in my hand.
However, not everything is good about the Razer mouse also. Software is buggy. The button quality also does not live up to the price you pay.
In MY opinion, if you value the comfort of holding mouse more than the quality, choose Razer Deathadder. Otherwise, if you value the durability more, choose Logitech G403.
PS. Razer Mamba and Deathadder have similar shape.

I just bought G403...Damnnn this is the best shape ive ever met. Suits me PERFECTLY. Changed to it from G502 Proteus Spectrum. The latter is a veryyyy beautiful and powerful mouse , i loved it, but the shape didnt suit me. Its quite narrow and useful for Claw probably grip. I use Fingertrip. Im abbsolutely satisfied and pleased with my new mouse. Btw was choosing between Razer Deathadder , SteelSeries Rival 300/700, Logitech G900. Also bought new pad Logitech G240. Im absolutely in love with my new set up. (Playing CS GO)

@@zubairibnferdous1643 they are different and it comes to personal preference and hand size, g403 is taller and suits more for claw grip, g305 for fingertip. You cant really say without trying both what suits you. If you go for g305 you will be good any day because it is a great mouse and is symetric. G403 though is specific with shape and may suit you as well as not.

Great video, got my G403 under your recommendation a while back after quality concerns with my last Razer mouse, as well as dealing with the gigantic, brick-tier weight that is the Corsair M65 Pro RGB. With the G403, I don't think I've ever been happier with a mouse, thing just feels godly in the hand and just feels so natural. I typically send people to your channel whenever they ask me for mouse advice, since I play all the precision characters in Overwatch pretty well I get asked about it a good bit. So thanks for putting all these videos out my dude, you help out a lot of people.

I've used both for about a month and would like to offer a few comments that were not discussed in the video:
    1. Scroll wheel button on DA Elite is superior to G403. As a person that uses the wheel button for many non gaming tasks (opening new tabs, panning in Revit/Autocad, or other modelling programs), the super stiff click of G403 is even worse ergonomically than G302/303. Also, the bounce back and actuation force of the button is not consistent (cannot spam it). To actuate the click easier you literally have to TILT the wheel to the right instead of pushing straight down. Its impossible to actuate if you tilt the wheel left while pressing down. I understand the wheel button is on the right side, but they picked a terrible button. The DA also actuates wheel click easier if you tilt right, but it feels 2x lighter than G403. Scrolling feel is also lighter and tighter than G403 (even fixed versions of G403 have side to side wobble).
    2. Overall build quality is worse on G403. If you open the G403, you will notice the two halves have very little material, and flex easily. This was to save weight. You don't notice this flex as much with the product assembled, but I fear for the long term durability. Squeezing the sides hard will flex this mouse much more than DA.
    3. Side buttons on DA is superior both in tactility and quality. G403 side buttons protrude more, have a glossy finish which sticks to your thumb when you press, and because they protrude more, and stick to your thumb, you will often hear a "twang" sound on the bounce back which means the button is being flexed sideways due to sticking to your thumb. This does not give me confidence in the long term durability. DA side buttons are now textured plastic, don't stick to your thumb, protrude less, and actuate with sharp click similar to a Huano switch but with very little travel.
    4. LED on the G403 becomes warm. This is further worsened by hump being closer to the rear of the mouse, so your palm to guaranteed to touch the LED. The LED on MAX brightness (default) warms up and causes sweaty palms and mine becomes uncomfortably warm. Setting brightness at 40% or lower helps. The DA hump is closer to middle of mouse so your palm doesn't contact the LED. It also doesn't heat up on max brightness.
    5. Spring tension buttons on G403 is somewhat overrated. Razer's manufacturing tolerances on the mouse shell are good enough that they already offer no pre-travel on the primary buttons even without a spring tension. If grab the edges of the G403 primary buttons and move them left/right, they have a lot of play. This is likely due to the design of the shell, but IMO, I believe the spring tension system allows Logitech to get away with lower Quality Control on the mouse buttons as they can make the mouse usable even if the button mold is slightly off and causes pre-travel. My G403 buttons also don't line up perfectly with the base while the DA does.
    6. Stock mouse feet on DA is superior. Logitech is using some cheaper PTFE on the G403 and this is immediately noticeable when you peel it and compare it to a quality PTFE feet. The G403 feet are harder, have a thick foam backing (save cost instead of all PTFE) and is more gray than the deep black colour and soft PTFE feet on their previous mice and other quality feet. This extra hard feet along with the foam backing is probably what allows Logitech to state the same 250km durability while saving money, but it feels terrible on any Control surfaces. The G403 feet are also not cut flat - they've got these ridges which will wear over time and change the friction. DA uses the typical high quality PTFE without a cheap foam backing, and cut perfectly flat as one would expect. For a $70-$100 mouse, it is unacceptable for Logitech to not provide the best quality mouse feet.
    7. Warranty - Logitech now offers 2 yr warranty same as Razer mice BUT you need proof of purchase generally. Razer mice (once registered, easily done when you install Synapse) do not require receipt and are also 2 yr. To me, this is pretty generous on the part of Razer, as many people lose receipts.
I wanted to love the G403, but these issues really let me down. Hope they make revisions next year.

Sounds like you had a dud g403. Literally everything you said is the exact opposite of what most people who have both of these mice on the internet are saying. It's obvious you're a biased razor fanboy, but there's no point in trying to fish out issues which are 90% you're personal gripe about the mouse rather than it being a g403 specific issue.

    • @euctrailridest.o.1407
      @euctrailridest.o.1407 7 лет назад

If you actually read the problems other people have had with their G403 rather than assuming you know them, #1 (scroll wheel) is the biggest problem where the first batch had loose wheels. I went through 3 G403's before I found a non-dud, and still the MWheel button is too stiff to spam. #3(side buttons) is also a common complaint where reviewers have said it could be better. Conversely, these two points are exactly what most other reviewers say is best about the DA Elite. #2(build quality) if you've ever opened both mice like I have, you'll know how much material Logitech shaved off on this one. Can't flex the DA Elite shell like you can with the G403. #4 (LED) might be just me, and the rest most people won't care.
For the record I use a G502 for work and a G100s(moba) or DA Elite(fps) for gaming paired with a G910 keyboard. Build quality is insanely good on the G502 and the MWheel button on the G100s is so tactile and light because it actually uses a spring micro switch (same as main buttons) instead of the crappy button style on the G403. I I am in no way a "razer fan boy", I use what's good to me and the G403 is disappointing.

Just want to say to any of your viewers. I've used a Razer Deathadder almost exclusively since the very first edition and every new edition since that all the way up until the 2013 edition that I still used until maybe 7/8 months ago.
Since then I've been on a similar but much smaller scale journey as you Zy, I've been through most of the top marketed mice over the past 2 years.
And I've found my perfect mouse in the G403, as someone who used the Deathadder for so long, as someone who felt like no mouse could compare with it in shape for my hand! I feel like the G403 shape is borderline perfect, the weight is amazing, the clicks aren't the most satisfying, but they work very well.
The only thing on this mouse that I would change? I would move the DPI button to the underside of the mouse and make the skates size more comparable to the Zowie EC series mice.
My hands are big too, and the mouse is still super comfortable. I did endup putting some Hotline Gamez Competition level (whatever that means) mouse skates on the mouse though, and they did feel better than stock.

Rocket Jump Ninja In CSGO I used mouse scroll up/down for jump for easier Bhops. In COD I used mouse wheel up/down for weapon switch for faster switching and to exploit the reloading animation glitch.
I used it frequently and in a up/down fast flicking motion. It causes miss clicks every now and then of the DPI button or if I used it as a nade bind or something..
And for the sake of one extra button, compared to the functionality I get from using the mouse wheel in this way, to me it's not worth those misshaps.

I'm a 'fingertipper'... if you're a fingertipper too then the g403 is the better choice. The problem with being a fingertipper and using the Deathadder is that there's no real secure place to rest your ring finger in a relaxed position. I just started using the Deathadder in a palm grip and I'm actually practicing the palm grip JUST to use the deathadder (cause it's so comfortable).

Ominous timing. I sat around for 3 hours trying to make this very decision last night. For me it came down to a couple of things. Current discounts factored in, they are the same price (in the UK). But the Logitech had free express shipping at the moment. It's also lighter which I suppose helps with my fingertip grip style. I have thin, long hands that aren't all that wide (20/9.5) and have used a £10 ambidextrous mouse for years, so I have very little to go-off in terms of 'fit'. Ultimately I've heard good things about the Logitech's quality and it's more likely to be here by Christmas, so I went with that over the Deathadder. Also you personally preferred it. Now it's time to track down a cheap MM300 mat for myself so I can bin the free mouse mat that I've used forever...

my hands are around those sizes give and take a few cms(19/9). I'm someone who can adopt to any shape but i do like to palm and slitting have my fingers in arch. the death adder is a littler more comfortable to me because it's slighting bigger but its not enough for me to make me regret anything. the size of the 403 is good just slightly below the deathadder.
all in all it pretty much feels great and the only thing that i compare when buying each are little bit more Size or removal of the cable. i chose the removal of it. if i was going to choose the cable version i may have very well stayed with the death adder. if the future comes up and there a wireless razer (with the same zero difference like the 403) I would prefer the adder because of its slightly larger size/shape.

I disagree about the DA being better for palm grip. I've used both, and honestly the main problem for me is how it feels like the mouse is more of a claw or fingertip for the DA, the back of the DA just doesn't fill my hand right as a palm grip user to control and i found myself constantly adjusting. However the G403 does. Another problem I did have with DA is that I couldn't stay on the X-Axis right, where with the G Pro and G403, I could. And on a preferential note, I don't like the rubberized or textured sides of the DA, nor mice that tend to use those kinds of things. My hand is around 20.5-21cm. Though I forget how wide it is.

    • @xXfsasXx

wantafanta01 that's my reason for getting the g403, specifically because the sharp angle of the deathadder's back left me wanting more material to grip onto. I haven't gotten a good chance to test out gaming with the g403 yet but so far it feels much more whole in the hand than my deathadder
edit: the deathadder I'm talking about for comparison is the 2013 version. I'm not sure of the differences between the 2013 edition and the elite, so ignore me if they have different shapes.

I discovered your channel like 1 week ago and I'm in love already. My way to go when I'm searching for a new mouse, and will recommend your channel to anyone in trouble as well!

@@JLPJLP-ue9nd well, it's been a long time already, and I'm still with the same G403 I spoke earlier. For me was the best choice I ever made for a gaming mouse, and once it breaks, I'm surely going to buy another one of the same. It fits my hand very well, it's pretty light, the buttons are confortable and very durable. I highly recommend it to anyone that's searching for a gaming mouse.

That's all i needed to know.
At 18cm palm size, i have trouble with the Deathadder. It's just too big, and the wider back cramps my hand after a while.
I don't have a defined grip style, it's neither palm or finger, but something in between, but definitely not claw, and i find wide back mice, and/or mice sloping heavy from the back to the forward aft, to be very uncomfortable.
The G403 seems to be a very happy medium.
    Gotta try it out.

Well I went and got a Deathadder Elite despite having pretty small hands.. Having used an old, outdated Logitech G300 for 4 years it definitely took some getting used to so much bigger mouse. Been using the Deathadder Elite for 2 days now and I'm starting to get used to it. I didn't even think of G403 when I was deciding on a mouse. Got confused on all the Logitech mouses and pretty much forgot about them. But I'm happy with the DA Elite :)

    Just got the G403 Wireless
I previously really liked the Roccat Kone pure for fps and the Mionix Castor for MOBA
Having the G403W I really don't need to pick one of those up again. Though being kinda big for my Taste I came to love the shape and size after some time. Can't compare it to other mice though (zowie, Deathadder ect..)

Got the g403 and I must say the shape is very welcoming and very comfortable. The thumb groove is very nice as well as the bit of the mouse your pinky and ring finger goes to. Overall it's a superb noise device. Quick not mine came with a slight sensor rattle but it doesn't affect your aim at all unless it's really bad and actually moves your cursor. I can't feel or hear it when moving my mouse so It should be good.

Coming from a Razer mouse and switching to a Logitech was a great idea. Most comfortable mouse I've ever had, clicks feel great, scroll wheel feels really good (not too loose or too stiff), and c'mon, it's freaking wireless, that's a plus in my book.
Razer was pretty good too, but I can't go back now, I'm definitely on the Logitech side in the mouse market.

No human can tell the difference between high end sensors anyway these days, the only thing you should look for is shape, size and weight, the 403 is better for most people's hand sizes and grip styles, not to mention it has superior build quality and comes with 2 year warranty. Don't fall for sensor marketing jargon just because it has a newer sensor doesn't automatically make the overall mouse better, if the Deathadder is better for your hand size then buy that, and vise versa.

I have both of these and It's pretty hard to recommend much else over the wired Prodigy, its like ~30% less expensive than the Deathadder Chroma and as Zy noted its really apparent that the build quality is much better. After owning numerous Razer products, those braided cables always end up fraying at the connector as they seem to use a large, loose weave. The Logitech one is really fat and it seems much more like the high quality braid you find in Sennheiser gaming headphones and Cablemod products, so I would wager it's likely to go the distance. The warranty is also twice as long. The Razer should be cheaper, everything about it is cheaper, but alas, its Razer.

    To Rocket Jump Ninja..
I have used the following mouse and haven´t found one i like, wtf do I do? :(
    Logitech G303, G402, G502, Steelseries 100, 300, Zowie FK1, EC2-a, EC1-a, ZA11/ZA12/ZA13, Razer Deathadder, Razer Abyssus V2, Dream Machines DM1 and steelseries sensei.
My problem is that I used Steelseries Sensei for 4 years and decided to get a new mouse with optical sensor, but ever since i havent found one i liked... Even the DM1 is not as comfortable though it should be almost the same shape.
My hand size is about 17.5/18cm x 9cm
Grip style is a hybrid where i rest my palm but only my fingertips are touching the mouse.
Btw. I play FPS purely like CS GO
    My questions to you:
    - What mouse on earth would you recommend me?
    - Could you perhabs compare Zowie EC2-A & Logitech G403 or just upload a picture of Zowie FK1/FK2, Logitech G403 and Zowie EC2-A as a size comparison between the 4?

g403 is too big for your hands

    • @Peteru69
      @Peteru69 7 лет назад +1

G403 is not too big for his hands . Same hand dimensions as mine and the G403 is not even close to being "too big". Pretty much as close to perfect as it can get with 17-18cm hands, depending on your preferred grip style.
I used to use a Sensei too (Ikari before that) and I never found a real replacement for the Sensei since I hated the feeling of the Deathadder I got after the Sensei, but I didn't want to throw it away. The ec2a has spin-out problems at random times on my clean logitech cloth pad, so I'm not a fan of 3310 sensors at all. Shape is great, but I like the feel of the G403 better (clicks, buttons, and surface texture fit me really well).
G403 is not the same as a Sensei, though. Until they update the Sensei and give it a top sensor, there won't really be a replacement for it. The Rivals are not at all proper replacements and DM1 doesn't actually feel like a Sensei. I totally agree with your points. But the G403 is great in many ways, the ec2a shape might be even better for you (given you don't have the same problems with 3310 sensors I do).
Unfortunately this is 3 months old, but I hope you find what you're looking for. Just my 2 cents.

Good stuff! Coming from a Rival 300, I've had a very long adjustment period to the G403 due to the tapered back you're talking about. The weight and the sensor have me nearly convinced though, but the Elite was on my short list to try out as well. I definitely enjoy the rearward hump on the Rival for comfort along with a narrow front end.
Is the DA Elite wider than the G403 up front on the sides? It's hard to tell with the comfort grooves.

So, my hands are about the same size as yours (17 and 8)
I hage been using the Razer Deathadder 2013 since it came out and i feel really comfortable with the grip and everything, but I feel like I''m ready for an update... I really like the design of the Rival 700 but according to your review it isn't the best FPS mouse, according to your measurement recomendations the best one for me could be the Zowie FK2 (as a CSGO player) and then we have the Deathadder Elite, which is technically the same as my old 2013 so it wouldn't be a change in grip and comfort but a hardware upgrade (sensor, weight and of course RGB lighting!) but then again according to your review this mouse is more suited for larger hands than ours
Talking about availability and price the best one for me to get would be the Deathadder Elite, followed by the Rival 700 and then the Zowie FK2
And my personal preference is Rival 700>Deathadder Elite> Zowie FK2
If you were in my position, which one would you get?

The G403 still has build quality issues with the scroll wheel. The side buttons also make a awful noise if you press it a certain way, the same my G303 did which is quite frankly absurd for a company as large as Logitech.
I ended up going with the G Pro in the end which apart from the DPI button sounding like an out of tune instrument on my unit, everything else is good. If my hands were slightly bigger, I'd go for the DA: Elite because my Chroma in the two years I used it never had an issue.

Hey Zy, your videos help me finding right mouses for me. I just wanted to tell you something i noticed.
I feel like with your long experience and the fact that you can adapt very fast to any mouse/mousepad, can make you loose the track on sensor.
I personally am way less experienced and I play games like CS (Semi pro on rainbow six) and play with 400 dpi, 2.10 sens (fairly lower than you it seems). I can notice a huge difference between 3310 et logitech/razer DA sensors. With the 3310 i couldnt make very small adjustement like you amd I enjoy very much those last tech sensors.
Between the DA and the g403, I like much better thr DA sensor, it feels more snappy, more responsive and fast. I can make quick flick just based on feeling better with it. G403 is a great mouse aswell, but I choosed the elite juste for the sensor and the mouse feet + too thick cable on the logitech (19cm claw grip here).
I just wanted to let you know about the feeling of someone that can still feel the difference, I dont know if you could agree with me.
Thanks a lot for your videos. Good competitive lessons and as a peripherals addict, I really like to watch your reviews :)

Well, as you mentioned CS... The 3310 sensor is still good enough for a majority of the pro players. So while it might be true that you can notice a difference, it doesn't mean that it really matters in game. And I think that is what Zy is basically saying, too. These sensors are all "good enough" not to hinder your game or skill.

G403 scroll issue is extremely annoying, there is a big gap between button so dust gets in very easily, after couple of months when i scroll wheel up page goes down a little bit, it happens randomly, very annoying... trying to return it or get a new one

I went from an abyssus to a deathadder elite LOL
can't even use the deathadder at all. ring finger cramps up with how wide it is and how i need to hold it every time i pick it up.

Hi, got a quick question for ya: so i got the g403 wired, and i cant really rest my fingers on it becouse it accidently clicks it, now the clicks feel too "easy to click in" its like i have to keep my fingers/hand stressed so it doesnt rest at all if it does it clicks sometimes.
You think i should exchange it for the DeathAdder Elite, are the clicks on the razer more "resistant" ?
    10.5/19 cm hands.

20cm x 11cm hands here, and the G403 is just a little too small for me. Palm grip.

Im using a palm grip all the way in FPS. In office and internet Iam using some kind of finger tips grip, but never a claw grip. Would you say the G403 is too small for 18.5cm/9,3 cm hands?

How would you say the size difference is? I find the deathadder just a tiny bit too big and am considering the G403 or the EC2a

I think Im gonna change my Zowie EC2-A. Its now my 3rd Zowie EC2-A (BenQ Version) and all 3 of them are really poor quality, scrollwheel bug on all 3 of them and the clicks were getting worse and worse. Some recommendations?

The DeathAdder Elite fits my hand really well, but I don't like that the software requires me to make an account. What mice are similar to the DeathAdder shape?

    hey o/
i'm currently using a cooler master inferno for over 4 years now, and I want to buy a new mouse.
from what ive seen these 2 are the most compatible with me.
my hand is 19CM and 10CM.
personally, I really like the shape of the inferno.
    I use palm grip.
what would you guys reccomend me?
