    What is it with you Patey guys? Between the two of you, I believe that equals the work and creativity of 10 normal guys! Work a full day then work another full day, then do it again the next day. Inhuman drive and determination. One of your parents must have been a robot and you have electrical circuits instead of veins. So impressive. I can only bow in the presence of the Masters.

    Hey Mark! I follow you not only because of your passion on things that you never went to school for is completed on you just learning how to do it. The fact that you get things done when you need to get things done even though you could buy the company to complete it. Really! I grew up with the same mentality that you can do anything (I did work a construction job) since nothing is a secret.After getting an ECON degree, my thoughts were right. You and Mike are the staple of "learn what you can and do what you like"
    Keep making videos!

    Most construction contractors have the mentality that you’ll be back because everybody is busy.
    A few years back, I needed a workshop built. 20X36’, with 2X6” stud walls. I got prices ranging from 27,000-36,000, but no one could start before the beginning of the winter 5 months off.
    Screw it, I’ll do it myself. Rented a Bobcat skid steer for a day and a mini excavator for the footings. Had a company build trusses, the rest I built in the evenings. Took three weeks and built for less than $8,000 in materials.

    Mezzanine looks awesome ! As a safety measure, are you putting a sump pump in the walkout at the bottom of your stairs in case the drain is blocked, or at least an alarm that water level is rising ? Have a similar situation in a family member's house that's always flooding basement due to debris blocking drainage... they had to put a boat style bilge pump out there to stop flooding.

    hey mike! Got a Question. the spars on those could you redo them in Carbon fiber. then bolt a landing gear from the wing? that way you would have a retractable gear. plus it would be even better for rough landings as it would be bigger. the aircraft would be sooo much cleaner/slick. and then you could add a pretty decent fuel tank along the fuselage
    Also when will you build one of these wit ha GE 110 with afterburner :P
    OR REAL TALK dual PT6A-60's on the wings that would be specially nice with retract able gear and pressurize or just keep portable oxygen.
    if you did dual PT6A, you could probably use a Dash 8 gear and mounts pretty much off the shelf ........ even do them reverse like the Piaggio 180. it uses PT 6A type engines but turns them around so the air doesn't have to reverse its course into the engine robbing efficiency. it makes them 40% more efficient :)
    And when you build this (And you will haha) I get the first flight :P :P

    Pouring reinforced concrete retaining walls is a specialist civil engineering exercise that needs the following for an acceptable job:
    1) Structural calcs.
    2) I would have expected the base of the wall to have a RC toe to resist overturning.
    3) The concrete should have been vibro compacted to ensure no voids to ensure the expected structural strength, durability and waterproofing.
    4) I would have expected a full cage of reinforcement in the stairs to resist the lateral forces.
    5) The timber shutter should not have been 'lost' by back filling. It will eventually rot and the sub base, which should have been in any case, vibro plate compacted in 6" (150mm) layers, will then migrate to fill the rotted timber voids leaving a void under the floor slab, which will then crack and subside unless it is designed as a spanning slab rather than the usual ground bearing slab.
    6) Concrete is naturally porous, moreso if it is not extremely well consolidated, and in this installation I would have expected a waterproof membrane at the back of the wall linking in with the floor slab membrane. As you cannot have fitted one then expect damp penetration and salts migration.
    I presume that the works were approved by your building inspectors?

    • @Kevy-vn9db
      @Kevy-vn9db 5 лет назад

      For the cost savings he could do it five times. Plus he has them now not next year. It is stairs not retaining wall. Are you complaining because it is not earthquake proof or you one of the salty contractors that didn’t get to rip him off.

    • @clivewilliams1406
      @clivewilliams1406 5 лет назад

      @@Kevy-vn9db I am an Architect with over 40 years experience and have been involved with an extensive variety of construction works from house extensions through to $Multi-Million projects. I have a particular expertise in building construction to the point where I have acted as expert witness in litigation cases.
      The type of construction that Mike Patey described is what I would expect from the worst of amateurs with dangerously little knowledge of construction. I don't doubt his expertise at building aircraft, where I am sure that failure in design can be fatal - and so it is also with structural building construction. I am comfortable with non-professionals completing building works BUT they do require to have sufficient knowledge and be open to professional direction.
      If cost is the issue then a short consultation with building professionals should establish the appropriate form of construction and resultant cost, and if Mike Patey wanted to carry out the work himself then I am sure that he will find the correct expertise to assist and inspect the works to ensure the structural quality of the work.
