      Yep, it was the last hoorah. The 2000's had the PS3 and XBox 360 era, which was a great time in gaming, but it was also the beginning of the end of the better times, imo. Netflix mailed you DVDs from a selection you'd never find in Blockbuster, and we were in another golden age of television with some great shows being produced. Seems like It went by like flashpaper.

      That's right. Microtransactions for example only exist and are so prevalent bc people pay for them. If nobody did then these companies wouldn't push them on us. My opinion is that's on the casual gamers

      Honestly I think that’s Ubisofts business model- outrageous launch prices to rake in the dough from people with a lot of disposable income or poor self control, and then quickly drop the game to reasonable prices for everyone else that know how to wait.

    • @vinniecorleone62
      @vinniecorleone62 2 месяца назад +3

      @SaintJoseph911 Yes, your point is quite valid. Another trend is purchasing "Live Service Games", like "The Crew" or 2015's "Need For Speed" reboot, then getting upset when the plug is pulled on them. Even "Gran Turismo Sport" & "Gran Turismo 7" need to be boycotted, but they aren't, so publishers are doubling down on them.

      I agree, I been saying this for a while now, I hate when people say there is a drought or there is nothing to play, there is way too many games being released now to truly enjoy them all. At this point I cant take these video game reviewers seriously no more, there is no way you can truly sit with all these games and have a non biased through review out in time to release a review on launch day. I found that only focusing on the games I like and playing them until I no longer want to play it, is way more rewarding than trying to play every new game that comes out because everyone is talking about it. If your game came out after the fall of 23, I am not even considering buying your game. Other than sports games, I am not buying a new game until I have atleast tried to get through my backlog, and I been waiting years for FF7 remake.

    I remember when Capcom released Street Fighter 5. I was excited, I pre-ordered the premium edition, I recall thinking about it all day at work and getting home, pouring myself an ice cold drink and starting it up...and there was nothing there. Like 4 characters, one game mode. I was furious. Moreover, to rub salt in the wound, when they finally released the completed game, I still had to pay an extra 20 bucks for it even after buying the premium edition. And by the time it was finally worth playing (it is a good game now,) I was no longer interested. I had moved on to other games.
    The point I'm trying to make is that this was not normal at the time. Now it's becoming more and more normal and I hate that.

Later on they keep adding more charactera and modes and created: Arace Edition and Champion Edition.

      I couldn't care less anymore, simply because PS5 & XSX physical games come equipped with awful looking flimsy blu-ray looking cases, slathered in legal text agreement, a sterile boring console logo in the top corner, typically uninspired boring art work with a generic 'logo only' disc inside of it. Switch games are more appealing, just because they're different, and house a teeny tiny cart inside, but even then. Eh, history has been laid out, i care more about 80's and 90's physical gaming media.
      Ultimately, for the most part, the artistry, effort, heft, outlandish wonderfully creative art work and beauty of physical media is pretty much long gone. 80's & 90's was where it was it. ;) If anything, i just miss the resale value. There seriously needs to be a 1 hour refund window/return policy. It's pretty gutting spending $90 CAD after taxes for a game only to wind up being dissapointed and then stuck with it. That's where digital starts to truly feel like a rip.

    The bummer for me is that the industry focuses on these massive, huge budget, enormous team, 5+ year games. It’s a bubble, it can’t last, it’s not good for anyone, and frankly, the games are often not even that good. It doesn’t have to be that way. But fortunately, there’s plenty else (too much) to play anyway, so it’s more a philosophical issue for me personally than a practical one.

    • @NeonPizzas
      @NeonPizzas 2 месяца назад +4

      So much of it is just snore inducing. I've felt this way since the XBOX360 & PS3 when so many video games started to transition into hollywoodized' movies, with dragged out game distrupting cut scenes, QTE's, and hand holding tutorials etc. So many games were drenched in grey and brown colour schemes and had far too much of a focus on visuals compared to the core gameplay. Thank god for the Wii+Virtual Console, DSLite and first year or so of the launch Aqua blue 3DS during those times, because if they didn't exist i would of dropped out completely.
      The only next gen games outside of Switch that I've had a wonderful time with have been the latest Resident Evil games, including 2R, 3R(The newer PS5 updated versions running at 120fps), Village(PSVR2) and RE4R. Everything else from Spider Man, God of War, Racthet & Clank, Demon Souls, Final Fantasy 16, Horizon FW, Stray, the latest Sand Land & Stellar Blade Demo ,etc etc have all felt like soulless charmless boring affairs that i just can't for the life of me get into....I always flock to the retro and faux retro stuff these days!, but that's just me. :P
      Curse of the Moon 1&2, Super Mario Wonder, Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening Remake, TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, Mega Man 11, Blaster Master Zero, Blazing Chrome, Panzer Paliden, Cuphead, The Ninja Saviours, Pocky & Rock Reshrined, Shovel Knight, just to name a few.
      And i'd hate to sound like an old man yelling at the clowns. But pop culture is dead. lol Looking back, it was so much more fun living it up in the late 80's and early 90's. You can't even compare it, it was way better back then. The commercials, cartoons, movies, anime, fashion, 80's synth pop music, no smart phones or social media, gaming magazines were great, the innovation and outstanding creativity in gaming was on another level too. Gaming simply put felt fresh and new, with new franchises being born left and right, while witnessing those huge next generational momentous jumps in power from console to console, unique controllers, and the consoles themselves had so much character and personality. These days? We're mostly just getting sterile two-tone black and white boxes. Fun...That's the future for ya. lol Dang that was long. Sorry for the sea of text haha.

    I honestly feel that the Star Wars fiasco is due to the fact that Ubisoft is getting desperate. They need to recoup the losses of some of the terrible games they've released over the years.
    Skull and Bones is hardly a game. Assassins Creed Mirage is hardly a game (extremely short). Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is cool for a handful of hours, but is insanely repetitive.
    These games are all almost 50% off at the time of writing this...
    I truly think Ubisoft is going down man. They want to charge over $150 for a digital version of a game. If this game fails, we might see the end of Ubisoft in a galaxy not too far away.

      @@thomast6511I agree with you. Some people deem me a tin foil hat conspiracy theorist for talking about the dangers of an all digital future with digital currency. I mean what we’re facing now is more censorship and our civil liberties being slowly eroded. With digital money the powers that be can see where you spend your money, how much money you have and could have the potential to cut it off if you don’t comply with what the government wants. As for digital games and media, I also 100% agree with you that I refuse to buy products that I don’t truly own. There’s also the worry that your access to a digital library cut be cut off at anytime and lost forever. I know people will claim that digital is better for the environment, but I’m sticking with physical games for as long as possible. I do buy the odd game digitally if it’s dirt cheap on sale or buy dlc like Fallout 4’s season pass, but the vast majority of my games are all physical.

    What is that music starting at @7:09 with the piano? It sounds AMAZING! Also, I wouldn''t worry too much. Digitalization is coming, but there are and there always will be those old schoolerz who release physical copies. Like Sea of Stars and Blasphemous 2.

    True. That’s why I’m deep into retro gaming only this year.

    This will be my year to catch up on games from the past 20 years that I've missed out on. Just bought a PS3 on ebay and am planning on diving into some Sony franchises that I've always been curious about.

    I am looking forward to getting back into retro-gaming with full force. I am fed up with the digital downloads, gigantic patches, season passes & dlcs, the crazy prices...There are positives with modern gaming, but the negatives with mostly modern console gaming is getting out of hand. So for me, I will focus on playing and buying games not newer than Wii/360/PS3 from now on. Maybe Evercade, but not Series X/PS5. Switch is kind of nice though? And PC, well, there it somehow have always been more flexible, even back in the older days.

    Ive been barely catching up with games coming out this year. I recently finished FF7 Rebirth and Persona 3 Reload then started playing Like a dragon Infinite wealth again but had to stop to play the FF16 DLC plus Stellar Blade and Sand Land are coming out this week.

    I haven’t been keeping up with this year’s releases but I played some awesome games this year. I recently played through Tunic, Metroid Dread, and Super Mario rpg. All of them were amazing and on top of that I am now playing Chrono Trigger for the first time and it has been as great as everyone says it is! There will always be great games to go back and play for sure, and there is still more to look forward to. I know I can’t wait for the Elden Ring dlc.

    It’s so great you’re a fellow CAD lol.
    My complaint is the fighting game genre has forgotten its roots of fundamentals and is primarily focusing on over aggressive tactics. However, Fatal Fury CoTW may change that.
    Great video man!

    I’m gonna for sure finish ff7 rebirth and continue playing Helldivers 2, but nothing else is really coming out that I’m excited for as of yet. Been playing a lot of original Xbox and 360 because camp Xbox’s videos. I’m planning on playing a bunch of couch co-op with buddies and doing some more lan parties, that’s what gaming is for me. Having a group of friends all together to enjoy something in the same room.

    So far, the amount of games I will play/want to eventually play is on par with how many I've usually played during the previous years. But I tend to not be interested in most of the so-called "AAA" games and licensed stuff anyway. And even if it were to slow down with good releases, my backlog is always begging to be cleared out a bit. Anyway, I'm now off to start a new game that just released today: Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes. Been looking forward to it for years. Hope you enjoy your backlog, Johnny!

    Hey bro, really like your content (a fellow Canadian watching from Shanghai), I’d like to send my condolences to you because the video you made about your mother truly moved me.❤. I’m also a collector of sorts, and am truly appreciating my collection more & more these days!! Hopefully, the digital versions don’t become the norm. I also wanted to comment on people’s opinions about protagonists looking either too pretty or, too ugly…. I’m not sure why anyone would complain about something so insignificant? “Shallow”, is the word that comes to my mind when I think about issues like these. Anyone who loves gaming, doesn’t care (too much) about the aesthetics of the main character… we just wanna play a kick ass game baby!!! Anyway, take care brother.
