So true! I'm 66 and have noticed there's not too many real musicians out there anymore. I do love it when I hear kids listening to, and learning the music from the 60's n 70's. I enjoy your channel.
I have just had that conversation wish my guitar teacher who has told me to come back when I know what I want to learn. Told me to go and listen to music till I settled on something. Thank you for reinforcing that message.
Robert Cray! Ken Bethea! I never strayed from being an album listener, but I'm "old" If a band is any good, they had something very definite in mind when they composed it. Wouldn't it be fun to discover your own interpretation of what that is?
I think it had more to do with computer simulated music and that there’s not a lot of new innovations on the instrument itself. No new way of playing, no new “electric” sound. We need an out of the box thinker
@@rikroberts1754 I'm always saying "Think of a song that you really want to learn and if I don't already know it, I'll learn it and break it down for you. That way, you won't have to practice, you'll *_WANT_* to practice." When I was a teenager and the Beatles were on fire, I used to come home from school at lunch, wolf down a sandwich and play until I had to go back to school. I have a 13 year old student who can play "Here Comes the Sun" note for note like George Harrison did.
I can't agree with your assertion Rick. I think it's too simplistic to conclude that there's a problem, and that problem is that folks don't have an inspirational artist to emulate. Guitar ownership has never been higher. If there's a problem for learners, maybe it's information overload given the sheer volume of wannabe guitar teachers on RUclips and the billions of mixed messages and quick-fixes being peddled on it. Everyone seems to claim to have their own answers, and anyone wanting to learn guitar has a problem maybe trying to track down the relatively few relevant ones.
@@rikroberts1754 It's very interesting to look at other tutors approaches, and I suppose for us it's a relatively easy process to separate the minority decent tutorials here on RUclips from the massive amount of fluff that inevitably exists here. For folks starting out on their guitar journey it must be nigh on an impossible task!
Well, I have my inspiration, a folk trio from the sixties. I even have their songbooks. But at 75 years old, I needed a little help to get restarted. RUclips has been great for learning chords, strumming, a little finger picking; didn't have that back in the 60s. But now I'm stuck trying to progress thanks to RUclips overkill! I'll probably get a few formal lessons and see how that goes. 🤞

Pat Martino, for me, I'm still learning and still haven't got there yet, but it's been lots of fun.
Yes, I should listen to Pat Martino more! Thanks for the suggestion. Pleased you enjoy learning and have some inspiration to go to.
*_Great insight! I'm going to refer my guitar students to this video._*
Thank you! That's really a compliment, I hope they find it useful.

Kids today need instant gratification. Can't get that with any instrument, except maybe the triangle.✌️
