Dude this is how it should be explained to beginners, i wish i was thinking about hip lines at the beginning rather than trying to memorise 8 steps to 20 different guard passes
I really like your headhunting idea; however it relies or assumes that you have breached the feet layer and the knee layer of defence and you were able to proceed to obtain control of upper body in a half guard position. By this time you are clearly the attacking party and the guard player is in 100% defence mode. Most good guard players that I have rolled against (keeping in mind i'm quite low level) will not let me penetrate through the feet layer or the knee layer, which are the layers at which the guard player is still in semi-offensive mode , and I (as the passer) am in a semi-defensive mode (i.e. maintaining posture & base, whilst working on the pass). it is breaching those first 2 layers of defence that I (and i believe many novice jits guys like me) struggle with whilst facing a good guard player. Does anyone else have the same issue, or is it just me? *insert Am I the only one meme
Really enjoy your cerebral approach to BJJ and breaking it down. I too mainly focus on the concept of "caging the hips", when passing the guard, favoring the over/under style of passing. I never really thought much about breaching the "hip line", as I felt that once the hips are caged, passing is more or less a formality. But maybe this is because I never really liked the knee slice? Passing the hip line definitely makes sense if you like the knee slice. I am really interested on the idea of "headhunting" and can't wait to see your second video. Just out of curiosity, I am assume headhunting only works if you are in someone's half guard? Would it be fair to say the conceptual sequence you advocate when passing is: Cage/pin the hips ----> Pass the hip line ----> Force half guard ----> Head hunt?
Hello! I really enjoyed your video, and how detailed you broke down a guard pass which I am currently working on myself. But a question that came up to mind, since I am still new to BJJ. While "headhunting" is your arm that is controlling the head/neck will that work against you as well? overextending, over exposing, and possible leaving it out as a way of escape, submission or guard retention for the guard player? Thanks again, please post more!
Amazing video! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this.
excellent work. I am quite often reminded if your opponent posts their head on a shoulder, under you chin or in your hip you are about to get passed!
Dude. The music is so dark and menacing. The knowledge is power. Oss!
Very practical, very well defined, putting it in first grade level makes it so much easier to absorb. Thank you.
