This super-funny monologue was even funnier *in context*. The week prior to Rick Moranis, the guest host was Bruce Willis, who insisted on playing sax with the band and being a jack-of-all-trades. Bruce performed well, but many viewers thought it was a bit much: a bit too much of an ego stroke. So the Moranis monologue was a direct parody of Willis' monologue.
An absolute comedic bullseye.
😂😂😂
Damn, that *is hilarious.
It was harmonica but yeah Rick one upped him for sure!
So wish tragedy had not struck Rick, he was destine to do great things in acting. The part Martin Short did in Captain Ron was supposed to have gone to him, and I wish it had.
He is so adorable! Especially when he's all bouncy like this!
I had forgotten this. What a pure delight to rediscover. I’ve always had a massive crush on this adorable little man.
We all did… well I mean I certainly did
This is the greatest SNL monologue ever. Change my mind.
People still do the while change my kind thing? Ok
It wasn’t a monologue it was a jumpalogue!!
Why do people keep saying "Change my mind." in RUclips comments?
@@bestmoviesever1 it's one the unoriginal phrases of the moment. Like back when everyone said OK Boomer to everything, even when it made no sense. People enjoy being unoriginal.
@@itbelikethat6579 it's more of a meme at this point and either way it's insanely overused on social media
Rick actually plays guitar left handed and upside down so it’s perfectly natural for him to grab a right handed guitar and play it without restringing it. He’s got a lot of hidden talents!
Definitely one of the most fun I’ve ever seen someone have in their SNL monologue. Probably took a lot to make that happen actually and they seemed to be doing most of it live. Definitely live guitar & sax playing - but there’s a lot going on here so maybe all of it was done fully live and real. This was one of the most memorable monologues, maybe ever. A lot of fun.
I'd forgotten that I'm in love with rick moranis...Yelp I remember now
Right?
@@3742enigma he's honestly just the total package. Every package
Rick Moranis is one of the many reasons the 80’s were the golden era of comedy.
Absolutely!
Him, John Candy, Bill Murray, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, John Cleese, Charles Grodin, Eddie Murphy, Tom Hanks, Leslie Nielsen, Robin Williams, Curtis Armstrong, Billy Crystal..
@@patrickc3419 John Belushi.
@@ronzombie6541
I don’t know how he slipped by me, but good call! 😁
@@ronzombie6541like the year he was alive in that decade he was really good
What an incredible man. I love Rick Moranis :)
Rick is amazing. What a incredible entrance. Definitely one of the best ones ever. I can’t wait for the new Honey I Shrunk The Kids movie
And Little Giants, too.
this is so fun, a monologue without the dialogue
Rick Moranis is the only one who could make this work so well.
See, when you give an SCTV alumni the keys to the studio things will happen.
Funniest monologue ever! He did this cuz the previous week Bruce Willis hosted, and just started playing harmonica with the band and singing. And Rick thought it was dumb. So he mocked it. Extremely. Lol.
Ladies and gentlemen we have reached PEAK MORANIS with this epic monologue. I loved this one.
dude....this is one of the best monologues ever..
Late 80s/early 90s was my favorite SNL era. Phil Hartman, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Jan Hooks, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider (when those two were funny) Tim Meadows, David Spade, Ben Stiller, Norm McDonald, Kevin Nealon, Ellen Cleghorne. The jazz band was phenomenal, too.
Rob Schneider was only funny as an extra in Sandler movies back in the 90's
Jon Lovitz.
@@JAG214 Looks like we got ourselves a regular "Critic", here.

I have a huge crush on Rick Moranis ever since I watched Little Shop of Horrors (and I cant even remember how old I was when that happened) and since then I will watch anything he is in. I will be heartbroken if anything happens to him.
I was just thinking how many guild rules Rick broke by operating that camera. lol.
As long as he's not banned from SNL for doing that, I don't care.
This is the funniest thing I've ever seen on SNL. What a legend Rick is. Bless him.
Rick Moranis is a LEGEND.
I’m glad he’s living a happy life outside of Hollywood with his family and I respect him for his decision however he’s such an amazing actor who I think one day will have to make a comeback into Hollywood sometime in the future and they should do little shop of horrors again but with him playing Seymour as well as the original cast being involved, that’d be amazing!!!
What would be the point of doing little shop of horrors again?!? He won’t do that anyway
Kids today will never know the love of Canadian Sweetheart Rick Moranis
For a man playing a guitar upside down while also blowing into a sax he didn't do too bad
He never left. He started a band called Weezer and later on he developed his alter ego called Fred Armisen. Many great faces this guy.
What a fucking legend
He looks like he has always wanted to be there.
Even though he hosted prior to that in 1982 with Dave Thomas.
Then again, since Saturday Night Live was in a second Golden Age and people liked the show again, it does feel like the first time.
Yeah? And to me, it looks like he OWNS the place. Totally his^^
Rick Moranis seems like an all around great guy.
Beautiful boy, come back!
0:48 G.E. Smith polishing Dark Helmet’s....Umm.....helmet! 😂
god what a 90s shirt, rick's place is now immortalised in history
This was 1989. Though late 1989. So perhaps you mean late 80s/early 90s?
This is the energy we need in this world
I love Rick moreanus
How has this not hit a million views? I was today years old learning of this and how this extravagant opening. Truly a jack of all trades
I love how Rick made his opener a SNL band music video.
This is the most original SNL "monologue" I've ever watched in over 30 years.
POV: You have to do every part in SNL
Sadly, not the musical guest part, which is ironic, because Moranis got into singing and songwriting since the mid-2000s, not to mention the fact that he does spot-on impressions of singers (cf. SCTV).
now THAT's how you do a monologue
Production: OK guys, when Rick Moranis comes in, we’re gonna let him do literally whatever he wants to do.
Cast,Crew, Camera men: Anything? Well ok…
Rick: rides a $250,000 camera system like a theme park ride ^_^
Rick could do NO WRONG in 1989...🤩
The awesome monologue.
Man! He does it all!!!
Omg the guy from honey we shrunk the kids..... Ryt?
Seriously this guy is amazing.. apparently he has a picture of my home town Southport in Merseyside in his home what a guy ❤
Man this guy took my girl and now I'm raising his baby.
Lucky
This is when SNL started to enter into it's renaissance. 1989 - 1995 was the best.
More like 1986-94.
GE Smith was such a legend.
Omg haha that was fun
Happy B-day Rick Began. Your a legend. Brother Bear 1 and 2 was amazing and great, seen part 2 in middle school field trip. Honey I Shrunk the Kids and Honey I Blew Up the Kid is awesome and hilarious. I seen Honey I Shrunk the Kids on Cartoon Network, maybe Friday movies, when I was 10, I guess. Good times. Cartoons kick ass. Seriously, incredible. Love comedy. And yeah, don't forget Ghostbusters 1 and 2. I love Science. It's kind of funny, when Louis was possessed by that demon dog. Worship Gozer. Ghostbusters is awesome. Science is so amazing... pretty kool. May the Peace be with u Rick Began. From Harlingen Texas. April 18, 1953
April 18, 2023 through April 18, 3023
Incredible
Damn, this takes me back, I remember the 15 year anniversary logo preceding some of the absolute best sketch comedy of that era.
The best entrance ever
Love that he's playing the guitar upside down lol
Moranis, in the nicest most diplomatic way, was saying f*** you to Bruce Willis
Fue fue fue fue la la la mejorrrrr actuacion de todo el mundo seluciron ah fue divertido yujuuu vamos Rick moranis tu puedes me encantó mucho Rick es la mejor fue como si estubi
Best monologue of all-time
Playing that guitar lefty too!! 😂😂
the helmet himself !
Miss him. It's crazy too because I said as if he died but he just retired. I'm happy for him at the same time.

Puffy: *Talking To Usher* "You Want A Record Contract And Makes MILLIONS Of Dollars? Come To Me Real Quick......" No Questions Asked Just Went Down On Him😏🤣
Who else was sent to see this gem from Drew Gooden's video🤣🙌
Best intro ever
SCTV strikes again. He did a bit of his character Gerry Todd in the control room. Perfect.
T-Bone Wolk!!!!
Now that's Canadian comedy
The 80's and 90's were the best
Man the band back then was fuckn great. Not saying that bad now but holy shit man
he was just a silly lil guy 😔
In fairness, I’d also do everything I possibly could to keep that band playing that song as long as possible.
baby🥺
Wish I could see the Rickie Lee Jones performances.
And that man never used that saxophone again and it’s now on display
THE PANTS
If this ain't the best of SNL I have seen-
this is so funny for what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
Conan O'Brien at 1:52
You could call Rick one neat guy.
He needs to host SNL sometime again.
He's retired, so I doubt he will.
Starz's The Lovelive Show Bought Me Here
The leader of the band on snl always reminded me like a bad guy that would be from diehard
I get why Moranis retired, but wow was he ever a one of a kind talent.
Big shirt 👕
Before the dark ages
He could've been a great Late Night host
He has kind of a Peter Scolari look going on! :-)
Even if it wasn't a race thing-punching this sweet amazing man would still be a hate crime
HELLO BARNEY
We miss you Wayne Szalinski
Louis Tully himself!
It was definitely a much better time to be alive
30-20-10
He's a lefty...at least when he holds a guitar
He played left-handed on at least two occasions on SCTV: as Neil Young and as John Denver. I think he might actually be left-handed.
@@canaisyoung3601and the Recess Monkeys skit. He actually plays left handed and upside down so it’s perfectly natural for him to grab a right handed guitar and play it without changing the strings.
i never thought of rick moranis as a coke man but yeah
0:48 wow Rick Moranis really gives 0 fucks
please welcome: Louis Tully!!
Geez not even a hand wash after delivering a baby
Sadly due to COVID, such a saxophone move will never happen again.
Thank god lmao-I used to play the sax and as cool as it would be for Rick Moranis to join it, anyone but me using my mouthpiece would be nasty 😷😂
Probably for the best, but I’m still glad it happened here lol
