    Moments of Glory / Gameplay Highlights
    Mostly Stealth, Some Fists (Fists are sick...)
    I liked some of the clips I recorded for my first-impressions / discussion video on this game (coming soon!). While you all wait for that to upload, I give you the ones I thought were cool. This game makes me excited to open my eyes when I wake up, I just want to run around and do map-clear. Help. I'm actually in pain working on videos instead of nolifing it on stream. @LeoKRogue  3 месяца назад +11

      AC3 is not a bad comparison, atmospherically, historically and technologically. Definitely some similarities there. Naturally having selectable difficulties means it can both be easier or harder than AC3, depending on what you choose. I'm playing on Twilight and getting slapped by an elite hurts like hell, very scary to mess up your defense in those scenarios.

    I’ve been excited for this game for months and man it is so much fun! Everything about the game so far has already exceeded my expectations that I had, notably stealth. The stealth is surprisingly really good, and I’m glad it is. Overall the game feels like an amalgamation of many other titles, combining the best aspects of each one to make something unique and fun😄

      Stealth is unexpectedly strong once you get used to it and start benefiting from all the tools you get, yeah. I haven't even unlocked some stuff yet. I also feel the same, about it pulling together awesome aspects of its constituent inspirations. Some people are very glass half empty about that but I genuinely feel what it does combine together works great.

    To be frank here I’m not going to call this an Assassin’s Creed nor Ghost of Tsushima clone. This game has the same combat as Ninja Gaiden & Nioh.
    Being a Team Ninja Fan this was a dream come true of having an Open World RPG set in those Games even if isn’t perfect I still enjoy it.
    Many Modern Gamers who attach on Modern AAA Games only cares about Graphics & Oscar-Bait Storytelling. To me I only care about the Gameplay.
    I play Video Games to Play Games and if I happened to not like Graphics I still wouldn’t play PS2 Games wouldn’t I. I’ve always enjoyed the whole medium of Games of New & Old alike.

      Yeah, to me it really is a crossover between Assassin's Creed world-structure and Nioh combat, like the two just met in the middle and synergized exactly as you'd expect. Assassin's Creed needs more competition, and I'm happy to see games like Rise of the Ronin and Ghost of Tsushima exist! I'm glad the latter is coming to PC. Hoping Rise of the Ronin will eventually be on PC, too. It's tough being constantly tempted to buy one of those RPG AC games... but I never will. Hahahah.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  3 месяца назад +3

      I'm happy to see it, yeah.
      I'm also just glad to see more developers release entries in this subgenre, since Creedlikes tend to be under-represented. They're not normal open world games, they have a set of mechanical tropes unique to them, and their most ardent fans are typically under-served which is quite sad.
      We haven't seen an Arkham game in a really long time, haven't seen a Shadow Of/Monolith game either, so the only presence the subgenre has really had outside of Ubisoft in recent memory _was_ Ghost of Tsushima and that was four years ago.
      Seems like we're seeing a bit of a resurgence lately which is an amazing feeling.
      If you haven't played Ghost of Tsushima yet, I recommend it very strongly when it does reach a platform you have access to. It's tied for my favorite game ever made, and very special to me.

    • @PsychoRavager

      @@LeoKRogue , I genuinely agree with you on all those fronts. Too many games are often just gone when a particular franchise genre goes away or is left untouched by the original developers. For myself, I miss games like Max Payne, Manhunt, Condemned, and even the older The Matrix ones. Since I'm a digital illustrator myself working in the indie side of the industry (altho more on comics than anything gaming related), I also do believe that spiritual successors and healthier competitions between creatives are keys to keeping art alive as a whole. Heck, I'd even say overly milked Call of Duty games would actually be in a better place if there were proper alternatives that gamers could pick up with quality to push the boundaries where it works. And that goes for a lot of Ubisoft and even Rockstar games. It's why I miss something like Sleeping Dogs so much. Got called out as being a GTA clone when it was definitely more than that. Man, I'm really excited for Ghost of Tsushima. I tried Assassin's Creed Mirage, and it was alright. Something about Ubisoft's take on lock-on combat and their new systems for stealth/parkour that just feels overly floaty. Not enough to scratch that itch. I'd absolutely love to see Tenchu or a spiritual successor for that to come to fruition in the future. Sekiro is an example, but it's definitely still leaning more towards the difficulty and challenge of a Souls-like more than a purely stealth-based game.

    As an AC fan, this game strangely gives me more feels than the RPG trilogy of AC. Never thought the "soulslike" combat would blend pretty well with the stealth mechanics. And it seems you have plenty of stealth's arsenal & enemy's AI that accommodated it (albeit it's kinda tone down)

    After about 10 hours with the game, I've grokked the parry timings of most enemies around Yokohama and have ascended to godhood. Bosses are still pretty tough, which is good, and so far they have move sets that are varied just enough that you can anticipate but aren't overwhelmed. I'm enjoying the bosses much more than Nioh or Wo Long so far.
    The Sekiro (IYKYK) fight was a little BS though. I feel there was no way to avoid getting hit at least once by the helicopter arm. Very unintuitive parry timing on that.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  3 месяца назад

      See, that's what I thought would happen! At first the parry timings on general enemy types were bothering me, but then I realized, wait, this is an open world, I'll probably play this game for many many hours and have to fight these guys many many times. I would rather it take me a while to learn parry timings than just have it all click two hours in.

      @@LeoKRogueI made it to Edo a couple days ago and am happy to report there are quite a few new enemy types and at least one new heavy type besides Babe Ruth and Andre the Giant's love child. I've used only a katana for my whole playthrough and have never gotten bored thanks to new and upgraded stances - something I couldn't say for Nioh. I honestly don't understand the reverence for Nioh's stances. You could mash through that game without even switching once. Ronin's stances all feel very different, at least for katana, and give optional advantages if you want them. Also, unlike Ghost , I've never felt punished for using the "wrong" stance. In fact the Shinobi stances are some of my favorites just because of the moveset. I only bring up Nioh because I think Ronin's biggest detractors are spurned Nioh fans. Nioh 2 is the perfect example of how feature creep can dilute a game's vision. I think too many falsely equate complexity with depth. I feel my skill is much more rewarded in the deceptively simpler combat systems of Ronin than it is in the complicated layer of systems of what essentially is just a simple combo spam hack and slash of Nioh. You can dress it up with skill trees for unlocking even the most basic moves, add a couple other stances for style points, but square square triangle is going to take you through most of the whole game. Not a hater, wanted to love Nioh 2 but I tried playing twice and quit from boredom near the end both times.

      Allows stealth much, much more than Sekiro.
      Generally speaking so far stealth seems to be the STRONGEST playstyle, if you care about smoothness and efficiency, there is virtually no scenario where you would want to just openly brawl people because chain-killing everyone while undetected is so much faster.
      It'll likely hit PC in less than a year, Team Ninja games usually do and Sony will probably want to expand this one's purchase-base.

      Elites/Minibosses (called "Formidable Foes") will survive them with a lot of HP-loss so you can fight them easier. You can typically tell if someone is one because their icon is different. Game is an RPG so expect to push your ronin in a particular direction. Much better than Odyssey in my opinion though, a lot of the things that frustrated me about that game are smoother and better thought-out here. More mechanics in our hands to play around disadvantages and such.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  3 месяца назад

      First impressions video coming tomorrow where I talk a lot more about what I like.
      Strengths are it's a really fast paced and smooth experience that doesn't waste your time, doing mapclear is really brisk and snappy in this game and it's a joy to just move around the world and knock things out.
      The general game-feel is very smooth and pleasant across movement, stealth and combat, which is of course a Team Ninja staple.
      The characters are cool.
      Weaknesses are naturally the visuals, for some people they might bother them, personally I don't really care that much, when my hands are on the controller everything looks okay enough in motion, especially at night time and when engaging enemies. Animations for combat and stealth are, as expected, good and readable.
      Combat is obviously an iteration of Team Ninja's spin on Soulslike fighting. Some gamers do be allergic to anything Soulslike (lock and pivot stamina based footsies) so this may be a downside for some. I like it, I've fallen in love with that style of combat framework over the last months.
      There is a lot of gear and progression to engage with, some people might not like that. Elites and Minibosses don't die in one stealth attack. The actual story isn't anything to write home about according to other people, I haven't played far enough to find out for myself. Combat is simpler than their previous games so if you're a Team Ninja fan I could see that not feeling like it's complex enough.

    I’m having a blast with this game, and your gameplay is pretty good.
    it’s just that this game makes stealth very hard to pursue, I adore stealth, loved mirage, and I’ve been trying to stealth, but the level design doesn’t encourage it, and detection is pretty odd.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  3 месяца назад

      _Really?_ Do I need to make a stealth guide? ^_^
      I feel like stealth is SUPER easy, fast and powerful in this game, genuinely -- level design and player-tools don't hurt most of the time. Can you let me know a little more what you're having trouble with?

    • @timoplays478
      @timoplays478 3 месяца назад

      @@LeoKRogue I wouldn’t say a guide is needed, nor is it difficult, it’s more of the lack of a push from the game to stealth.
      What I mean is that, marking enemies fades away after a few seconds, a lot of the times enemies are bunched up up and besides the throwable, there’s not much make them move apart or “chain assassinations”
      It’s fun, but I’d say it’s very simple and doesn’t have much depth, as a hardcore stealth fan, I’ve eventually used stealth to start an infiltration up till I get caught and start combat

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  3 месяца назад

      Hmm... I get it a little more, but I'm still not really seeing how that matches up with the earlier comment of "makes stealth very hard to pursue," do you mean that it just doesn't incentivize it, or makes it difficult to execute given the limitations?
      Most of the time I feel both motivated to do it, and empowered to make it happen. Stealth is generally still the best way by far to speed-wipe an area or control space, set up a clean scrap against a miniboss, so on. Especially on Twilight when everything has more health but takedowns usually delete someone outright.
      Enemies bunched up die to Firebombs or panic when you assassinate someone next to them, and so far I haven't had that much trouble using that to keep things tight and locked down.
      Definitely true that neither stealth nor combat have that much depth individually, it's the way everything fits together and combines that makes them fun here, I feel. Here I would say the level design also does a good job of keeping stuff fresh because the basics aren't too tough to do so tension is mostly derived from where enemies are placed, how they move, how we separate them (or abuse them being together which is also good for us) get access to high ground etc.

    • @timoplays478
      @timoplays478 3 месяца назад

      @@LeoKRogue it doesn’t incentivize it as much as I’d like it to personally, yes it starts you undetected with higher ground, but the lack of targeting enemies and level design sometimes being too limited has me kinda meh.
      I haven’t finished the game, I’m actually around 8 hours in, I haven’t used the fire bombs yet, and so on, but I’ll actually give stealth another try, I’ll take it slow and see what I can do.
      I’ve tried some stealth tricks from other games like shooting an enemy in the head and taking down the one next to them, that didn’t work as they detected me.
      I’ll stick to what the game offers and see what I can do, you got any more tips?

      ... Okay...? So go play it lol. No one's making you play one over the other, they're both sick. Ghost of Tsushima is my favorite game of all time tied with AC1 but you'll never catch me refusing Ronin the props it deserves. Game is a slapper and I will be playing a ton of it.

      @@LeoKRogue sure, i was just commenting. i personally dont like the game, but uniqueness and creativity is what fuels these experiences. no game should have to aim to please everyone.

      You comparing this game to GoT is already wrong this game take place in bakumatsu era different with tsusima and gameplaywise its more open world nioh, the graphic is okey because its team ninja, they only famous for their gameplay not graphic
